Patsy H. Clark

GRAHAM — Patsy Hobgood Clark, 77, a resident of 1423 E. Main St., Burlington, and a former resident of 77 Clark Lane in Vance County, died Friday, March 8, 2013, at Hospice of Alamance County in Burlington.

Born in Vance County on April 14, 1935, she was the daughter of the late William T. Hobgood and Willie Jeanette Mosley Hobgood, and was the widow of Jesse P. Clark.

A graveside service will be held today at Sunset Gardens.

She is survived by two daughters, Sheila C. Puckett and Debbie C. Tolle, both of Graham; one brother, Alfred T. Hobgood of Henderson; one sister, Inez Hobgood Reams of Fayetteville; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Arrangements are by J. M. White Funeral Home of Henderson.

Raymond E. Downing

HENDERSON — Raymond Elijah “Ray” Downing, 86, of 63 Ridge Circle Road, Henderson, died Friday, March 8, 2013, at his home.

Born in Edgecombe County, he was the son of the late Elijah Warren Downing and William Ann Johnson Downing.

Downing was a retired real estate broker. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. A member of Freedom Life Church of God, he was a former head of the ushers and served on the finance committee.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, March 10, 2013, at 3 p.m., at Freedom Life Church of God, conducted by the Rev. Jeff Prewer. Burial, with Military Honors, will follow in Sunset Gardens.

Survivors include: his wife of 75 years, Mary Elizabeth “Lib” Wilson Downing; a daughter, Judy Elaine Downing of Fuquay-Varina; a son, Randy King of Warrenton; a sister, Margie D. Adams of New Bern; two grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Joyce D. Conner and Elsie D. Conner; and five brothers, Ralph Downing, Rudolph Downing, Laverne Downing, Reuben Downing and L.P. Downing.

The family will receive friends Sunday, from 1:30-3 p.m., at Freedom Life Church of God. All other times, they will be at the home.

The ushers of Freedom Life Church of God will serve as active pallbearers.

Flowers will be accepted; or memorials may be made to Freedom Life Church of God, Building Fund, P.O. Box 1543, Henderson, NC 27536.

Elsie M. Lester

OXFORD — Elsie Mae Lester, 78, a resident of 4196 Shock-Overton Road, Oxford, died Wednesday, March 6, 2013, at Hock Family Pavilion in Durham.

She attended Mary Potter School and was a member of Amazing Grace Ministries where she sang in the senior choir until her health declined. She was formerly employed at Cristex and employed at Royal Home Fashions until she retired in 1998.

Survivors include five daughters, Eunice Kennedy of Worton, Mo., Elaine Knight of Portsmouth, Va., Gwendolyn Jamerson of Raleigh, Priscilla Lewis of Henderson and Denise Battle of Norfolk, Va.; four sons, Alex Lester of Temple Hills, Md., Wallace Lester of Indiana, Kenneth Lester of Oxford and Connell Lester of the home; three sisters, Doris Bass, Inez Thorpe and Carrie Evans; two brothers, Willie Thornton and Len Thornton; 26 grandchildren; and 57 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted Monday, March 11, 2013, at noon, in the Betts & Son Funeral Home Chapel with eulogy delivered by Bishop Thomas Daniel. Interment will follow in the New Hope Granville Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Sunday, March 10, 2013, from 6-7 p.m., at the funeral home and other times at the home.

Mamie Solomon

WARRENTON — Mamie Solomon, 92, of Warrenton, died Tuesday, March 5, 2013, at Maria Parham Medical Center in Henderson.

Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, March 10, 2013, at 11 a.m., at Greater Lovelv Hill Baptist Church in Macon. Pastor John Henderson will officiate and burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Survivors include: two daughters, Mary Louise Hendricks of Warrenton and Hilda S. Henderson of Huntsville, Ala.; three sons, James “Butch” Solomon and Earnest Solomon, both of Warrenton, and Dewain Solomon of Louisburg; five granddaughters; three grandsons; and five great-grandchildren.

The body will be on view today, from 11 a.m.-7 p.m., at Boyd’s Funeral Services Chapel in Warrenton, N.
