Donald R. Burnette Sr.

HENDERSON — Donald “Donnie” Ray Burnette Sr., age 60, a resident of 354 Breeze Hill Lane, Henderson, died Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2013, at Maria Parham Medical Center in Henderson.

Born on July 6, 1952, in Vance County he was the son of the late Elmus Brown Burnette and Mabel Coghill Longmire. He was a pricing manager for the former Winn Dixie Grocery Store for 17 years. Mr. Burnette attended Blessed Hope Baptist Church.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, Jan. 27, 2013, at 2 p.m., at Blessed Hope Baptist Church by the Rev. Donnie Perkinson. Burial will follow in Sunset Gardens.

He is survived by his wife, Deborah “Wife” Sharpe Burnette of the home; two daughters, Angel Dawn Burnette Evans of Charlotte and Heather Lane Burnette of Henderson; two sons, Anthony Wade Burnette of Candler and Donald Ray Burnette Jr. of Hurst, Texas; one brother, Elmus L. Burnette of Raleigh; six grandchildren, Kayla Elizabeth Burnette, Ryan Eugene Reavis Burnette, Skyler Christian Stewart Burnette, Sean Robert Burnette, Alecia Nichole Burnette and Mya Lane Burnette Neal; and his “four-legged grandson,” Dobby Abu “Two Face” Evans; several nieces and nephews; several special family members and close friends; his Winn-Dixie brothers and sisters; his “Momma” Fannie C. Thomas; and his Oxford Orphanage brothers and sisters.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Joyce Marie Burnette Davis and Phyllis Joann Burnette.

Donnie will be missed and loved by all those whose lives he touched. He brought laughter and joy to all those who knew him.

The family will receive friends Saturday night, Jan. 26, 2013, from 7-8:30 p.m., at J.M. White Funeral Home. At other times they will be at the home, 354 Breeze Hill Lane (off of Faulkner Town Road), Henderson.

OXFORD — Helen Daniel Currin, age 90, of Oxford, died Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2013, at Brantwood Nursing & Rehab Center in Oxford.

A native of Granville County, she was the daughter of the late James (Jim) Madison and Mollie Daniel, and the wife of the late James Marvin Currin. Mrs. Currin attended Hester Baptist Church and was a retired member of the N.C. State Employees Association.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 25, 2013, at Gentry-Newell & Vaughan Funeral Home by Dr. Randy Bridges. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10-11 a.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.

Surviving are a son, James Daniel (Danny) Currin (Ginnie Lee) of Oxford; daughters, Linda Ann C. Munn of Oxford and Cynthia Rose Currin Gajdosik (Steve) of Knightdale; grandchildren, Dr. Jeffrey Lenard Munn (Kathy), James Michael Munn (Elizabeth), Jennifer Lee Currin Ports (Cullen), Megan Daniel Currin, Stephen Andrew Gajdosik Jr. and John Daniel Gajdosik; and great-grandchildren, Austin Michael Munn, Lauren Abilgail Munn, Ashley Evan Munn and Libby Ann Munn. He was preceded in death by sisters, Lucy Daniel Parrott and Nellie Daniel Parrott Dickerson; and brothers, Willie Daniel and Walter Daniel.

HENDERSON — Mary Allen, 57, of 95 Lone Wolf Drive, Henderson, died Saturday, Jan. 19, 2013, at her residence.

Born in Vance County, she was the daughter of the late Allen and Myrtle Miles Terry, She was educated in the Vance County Public Schools and attended Vance-Granville Community College.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, Jan. 26, 2013, at 2:30 p.m., at New Life Church by Pastor Myron Henderson Sr. Burial will follow in Blacknall Cemetery.

Survivors include: her husband, Willie Alien of Henderson; one daughter, Loretta Terry of the home; two sisters, Queen Terry and Virginia Terry, both of Henderson; seven brothers, Allen Terry Jr., Kenneth Terry, Ervin Terry, all of Henderson, Bobby Terry of New Jersey, Theodore Terry of Greensboro, Donaid RayTerry of Virginia Beach, Va., and Roosevelt Terry of Sumter, S.C.; three stepsons, Dennis Henderson Waddell, Willie Henderson and Michael Waddell, all of Henderson.

KITTRELL — Carvie Boyd, 64, of 215 Frank Sneed Road, Kittrell, died Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2013, at Maria Parham Medical Center in Henderson.

Robert C. Brown

HENDERSON — Robert Clyde Brown, 60, of 422 Harriett St., Henderson, died Saturday, Jan. 19, 2013, at his residence.

He was born May 14, 1952, to the late Mattie Bell Brown And Robert Willis Carroll in Vance County.

He was educated in Vance County Public Schools and worked as a construction worker in Newark, N.J.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, Jan. 27, 2013, at 3 p.m., at Progressive Faith Missionary Baptist Church, with interment to follow in Blacknall Cemetery
Survivors include: three children: Andre and Tasha, both of Newark, N.J., and Kiara Davis of Henderson; one grandchild; two brothers: Charles Brown and Fred Brown, both of Henderson; and two sisters: Mattie Brown of Henderson and Pattie Williams of Charlottesville, Va.

Jane H. Clayton

HENDERSON — Jane Hunt Clayton, 81, of 400 Clayton Road, Oxford (in the Watkins community), died Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2013, at Duke University Medical Center in Durham.
Born in Granville County, she was the daughter of the late Sherman Lewis Hunt and Nina Overton Hunt. She was the widow of Johnnie Wesley Clayton.

Clayton was retired after more than 40 years as a licensed practical nurse at Maria Parham Medical Center in Henderson. She was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church and attended Gospel Independent Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Jan. 26, 2013, at 2 p.m., at Gospel Independent Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Robert Greene Jr. Burial will follow in Meadowview Memorial Park.

Surviving are a daughter, Doris C. Norwood of Oxford; two sons, Steven L. Clayton and J.G. Clayton, both of Oxford; five sisters, Lois H. Hunt and Madeline H. Freeman, both of Oxford, Becky H. Goss of Creedmoor, Virginia H. Blackwood of Henderson and Mildred H. Watson of Roxboro; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Ozelle H. Dement; and a brother, Bobby Lewis Hunt.

The family will receive friends today, from 7-8:30 p.m., at Flowers Funeral Home. All other times, they will be at the home, 400 Clayton Road, Oxford.

Serving as active pallbearers will be her grandsons, Wesley Norwood, Kevin Norwood, Steven Clayton II, Brian Clayton, Gray Clayton, George Clayton, Christopher King and Hamilton King.

James R. Hawley

HENDERSON — James Roosevelt Hawley, 79, of 892 Gun Club Road, Henderson died Sunday, Jan. 20, 2013, at his residence.

He was born May 14, 1933 to the late Dock Leonard Hawley and Geraldine Winston in Granville County.
He received his education from Granville County Public Schools.

He was a retired landscaper.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, Jan. 27, 2013, at 2 p.m., at Oak Level United Church of Christ with the Rev. Leon White Officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Ida Hawley; one son, Ryan Hawley of the home; one daughter, Etha Jones of New Jersey; two sisters Mary Catherine Clements and Mary Elizabeth Hawley; and two brothers, Cleveland Hawley and William Hawley.

A viewing will be held Saturday, Jan. 26, 2013, from noon-5:30 p.m., at the funeral home and at the church one hour prior to the service.

Charles E. Paschall Sr.

ROANOKE RAPIDS — Charles Edward Paschall Sr., 72, died Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2013, at his residence.

He was a retired truck driver, and owner and operator of C&R Convenience Store.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Fletcher Paschall Sr. and Elizabeth Braswell Paschall; and his brother, Fletcher Paschall Jr.

Memorial services will be held at 5 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 26, 2013, at Blaylock Funeral Home in Warrenton. The family will greet friends prior to the memorial service starting at 4 p.m. at the funeral home.

He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Rosa Vance Paschall; his children, Patricia Epps, Charles “Buddy” Paschall Jr., Karen Walthall Foster, Cynthia Walthall Rodgers, Jeff Walthall and Sharon Paschall Pate; his sister, Linda Paschall; 13 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

WARRENTON — Leslie Fitzgerald Richardson, 48, of 151 Greentown Ave., Warrenton, died Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2013, at his residence.

NORLINA — Mary Catherine Shaw-Pressley, 77, of 478 Manson-Axtell Road, Norlina, in died Monday, Jan. 21, 2013, at her residence.

James H. Watkins

OXFORD — James Herman Watkins, 85, died in Durham on Jan. 23, 2013, surrounded by family.

Watkins was born to George Washington Watkins and Isobel Bradsher Watkins on Belltown Road in rural Granville County. He lived on the family farm five miles south of Oxford in Providence.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Nellie Gray Currin Watkins; two brothers, William “Bill” Watkins of Oxford and George Watkins Jr. of Jacksonville, Fla.; and two sisters, Louise Watkins Perry of Oxford and Frances Watkins Hedgecock of Columbia, S.C.

Survivors include: a son, James Herman Watkins Jr. of Durham and a daughter, Mary Nell Watkins Darden of Clinton; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a brother, Harry Leslie Watkins; and a sister, Elizabeth Watkins Neer of Staunton, Va.
