Alta V. Young

HENDERSON — Alta Marie Van Hook Young, 79, died Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2013, in Brighton, Mich.

Born in Catawba County, she was the daughter of the late Frank Thomas Van Hook and Alta Marie Mitchell Van Hook.

Mrs. Young was a retired dental hygienist. She was a member of The Church of the Holy Innocents, where she sang in the choir.

A graveside funeral service will be held at 4 p.m. Monday, Sept. 9, 2013, at Elmwood Cemetery by Father Donald Lowery.

Surviving are a daughter, Deborah Marie Young Long of Brighton, Mich.; two sons, retired U.S. Navy Cmdr. Charles M. Young III of Las Vegas, Nev., and Steven Thomas Young of Plainwell, Mich; two sisters, Jacqueline Ann Van Hook Long of Durham and Betty Lou Van Hook Levenson of Oxford; and seven grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Monday from 3 to 3:45 p.m. at Flowers Funeral Home.

Ruby H. Moss

HENDERSON — Ruby Hudson Moss, 88, of 12645 N.C. 39 North, died Friday, Sept. 6, 2013, at Granville House in Oxford.

Born in Reidsville, she was the daughter of the late Herbert Thomas Hudson and Sadie Jones Hudson.

She was the widow of Albert Gill Moss.

Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 8, 2013, at Nutbush Presbyterian Church by Rev. David Vallenga. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Surviving are a son, Gerald Rash and wife, Mary, of Bullock; three stepchildren, Marie Rowland of Henderson, Shirley Strum and husband, Bobby, of Charlotte and Dan Moss and wife, Joyce, of Townsville; a sister, Catherine Gammon of Danville, Va.; a brother, Jackson Hudson and wife Marie of Reidsville; a granddaughter, Fran Hudson of Kernersville; and many more grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Thomas Hudson and Leonard Hudson.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 3 to 4 p.m. in the fellowship hall at Nutbush Presbyterian Church.

Serving as active pallbearers will be Dwain Rash, Vince Rash, Jordan Rash, Henry Proctor, Walter Beal, Tony Proctor and James Cottrell. David Proctor will serve as honorary pallbearer.

LOUISBURG — Charles Sidney Macon, 75, of 119 Gowans Brodie Road, died Thursday, Sept. 5, 2013, at Nash General Hospital in Rocky Mount.

A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Rowland Chapel.

A viewing will be Monday from noon to 6 p.m. at Davis-Royster Funeral Service.
