Mildred F. Boyd

OXFORD — Mildred Finch Boyd, 83, a longtime resident of Granville County, died Thursday, May 23, 2013, at Granville House in Oxford.

A native of Vance County she was the daughter of the late Ora Wade and Myrtle Jane Jackson Finch.  She was a member of Providence Baptist Church.  She worked at Roses, Outdoor Supply and, for many years, was a childcare provider in her home.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, May 25, 2013, at 2 p.m., at Providence Baptist Church by Dr. Randy Pittman. Burial will follow in Knotts Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Oxford.

Surviving are her husband of 63 years, Melvin Lee Boyd of Oxford; a daughter, Cinderella B. Lyon of Sanford; two sons, Ruben Wade Boyd of Goldston and Melvin Foster Boyd of Oxford, six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Carolyn Moss of Oxford and Shirley Paine of Virginia. She was preceded in death by three sisters and two brothers.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Providence Baptist Church, 4603 Old Route 75 Oxford, NC 27565.

Visitation will be held today, from 6-8 p.m., at Eakes Funeral Home in Oxford.

CHADBOURN — Paul Campbell, 76, of Chadbourn (originally from Henderson), died Thursday, May 23, 2013.

HENDERSON — Wayne K. Davis, 54, of 2539 N.C. 39 N., Henderson, died Thursday, May 23, 2013, at Maria Parham Medical Center in Henderson.

Evelyn Lyons Hester

OXFORD — Evelyn Lyons Hester, 66, a resident of 218 Green Forest Drive, Oxford, died Wednesday, May 22, 2013, at her home. She was the daughter of the late James Lyons and Cordelia Hedgepeth Lyons.

She is survived by one son, Dermis Hester, Oxford; two Daughters, Regina Hester and Angela Hester, both of Oxford; one brother, James Lyons Jr., Wilmington; four sisters, Yvonne Shaffher of Creedmoor, Cynthia Billings of Dayton, Ore., and Carolyn Lyons and Judy Lyons, both of Oxford; three grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, May 26, 2013, at 2 p.m., at Michael Creek Baptist Church by the Rev. Wiley W. Robinson. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Viewing will be Saturday, May 25, 2013, from 11 a.m.-7 p.m., at Wright Funeral Home in Oxford.


Patrick O. Jones

STOVALL — Patrick O’Neal Jones, 34, a resident of 519 Taylor St., Stovall, died Tuesday, May 21, 2013, at UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill.

Survivors include his wife, Shonda Green Jones of Stovall; parents, Edward Jones Jr. and Laura Hart, both of Oxford; sons, Jaylen Jones and Quentin Green, both of Stovall; daughters, Sheniqua Green and Dikasia Lyons, both of Stovall; four brothers, Edmond Jones of Oxford, Wayne Jones of Durham, Michael Jones of Duplin County and Ron Jones of Roxboro; four sisters, Michelle Jones of Creedmoor, Ann Lester of Oxford, and April Majors and Monica Jones, both of Roxboro.

Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, May 26, 2013, at 2 p.m., in the Betts & Son Funeral Home Chapel, with a eulogy delivered by Bishop Thomas Daniel. Interment will follow in the Only Way Church of Christ Cemetery.

Viewing will be from 11 a.m.-6 p.m., Saturday, May 25, 2013, at the funeral home.

Christine N. Marrow

OXFORD — Christine Norwood Marrow, 76, a Granville County native and a resident of Universal Healthcare of Oxford, died Saturday, May 18, 2013, at Granville Medical Center in Oxford.

Born in Granville County, she was the daughter of the late James and Hattie Florence Smith Norwood. She joined Michael Creek Baptist Church at a very early age and remained a member until death.

She attended Granville County Public Schools and  graduated from the former G.C. Shaw High School. She continued her education at Virginia State College, receiving her master’s degree.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, May 25, 2013, at 11 a.m., at Michael Creek Missionary Baptist Church by the Rev. Wiley W. Robinson. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Survivors include one daughter, Dr. Zeda Amaya of Coppell, Texas; one son, Rinnie Glass of Oxford; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Body will be on view today, from 11 a.m.-6 p.m., and will be on view at the church one hour before the service. The family is receiving friends at the residence of Helen Hanks, 8035 Butner Road, Oxford, in the Stovall community.

Vincent E. Shearin

HENDERSON — Vincent Eric “Peanut” Shearin, 47, a resident of 513 Mason St., Henderson, died Tuesday, May 22, 2013.

Born on Sept. 24, 1965, in Vance County, he was the son of the late Louis Elton Shearin Sr. and Blanche Tucker Shearin. He was an electrician by trade.

A memorial service will be held Wednesday, May 29, 2013, at 2 p.m., at his home church, South Henderson Pentecostal Holiness Church, conducted by the Rev. Frank Sossamon.

He is survived by his brother, Louis E. Shearin Jr. of Watkins Glen, N.Y.

The family will receive friends Wednesday following the service at South Henderson Pentecostal Holiness Church. At other times they will be at the home of Christine Roberson Tucker, 513 Mason St., Henderson.

Marvis L. Street

HENDERSON — Marvis Lavonda Street, 34, of Marshall Street in Henderson, died Sunday, May 19, 2013, at Duke Medical Center in Durham.

She was born Jan. 16, 1979, to the late Rosa Nell Street and Kelvin Jordan of Manson.

At an early age, she joined Kesler Temple AME Zion Church and later she joined Progressive Faith Missionary Baptist Church.

Funeral Service will be held Sunday, May 26, 2013, at 2 p.m., at Progressive Faith Missionary Baptist Church with Elder Richard Batts officiating. Interment will follow in Blacknall Cemetery in Henderson.

Survivors include: two daughters, Ny’Kirah and Anautica Street, and one son, KyDarius Street, all of the home; two sisters, Deborah Street of Henderson and Rose Cotton of Raleigh; and three brothers: Stoney Street, Kyle Street and Nakia Street, all of Henderson.

Viewings will be held Saturday, May 25, 2013, from noon-5:30 p.m., at the funeral home and at the church one hour prior to the service.

The family is receiving friends at the residence.
