Mary S. Fox
DURHAM — Mary Elizabeth “Lib” Sneed Fox, 88, died peacefully at her home in Durham on Saturday, July 27, 2013.
Born in Williamsboro, she attended Elon College before marrying and settling in Henderson where she spent the majority of her life. There, she was devoted to her family, neighbors, church, keeping a beautiful yard, and to her job at A.R. Perry’s Glass Company, where she worked close to 40 years. During her time as an active member of First United Methodist Church, she held numerous offices and was a longtime children’s Sunday school teacher.
“Lib” Fox was preceded in death by husband John Barnard Fox, parents Fred and Leila Sneed, siblings Allen Sneed, Laurie Ball, Ruth Wade and Fred Sneed, and sons-in-law Robert Seeman and David Zak.
She is survived by children Martha (Richard) Crofts of Naples, Fla., and Margaret Zak of Durham; grandchildren John (Christine) Crofts, Jodie Elizabeth (Brent) Moore, and Beth Zak (Scott) Reiser; six great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews. This host of loving family and her many friends brought her great joy.
Lib was a hard worker in every aspect of her life. She was determined that her daughters would have every opportunity and that her grandchildren would want for nothing. Her dedication to her family was matched with equal devotion in their love for her. Beloved Fox, you are missed already!
A memorial service will be conducted at First United Methodist Church on Friday, Aug. 2, at 2 p.m., with the Rev. Dr. John M. Check and the Rev. Mark Stephens officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Amedisys Hospice of Durham, 2609 Duke Street, Durham, NC 27704 or to First United Methodist Church of Henderson.
