Hazel M. Thomas

HENDERSON — Hazel Maudeen Peck Thomas, formerly of Winter Haven, Fla., and more recently of Raleigh, died peacefully in the arms of her family on Saturday, April 19, 2014, at the age of 95.

Born in Townsville, she was the daughter of the late John Dennis and Ruby Jones Peck.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, William “Tommy” Thomas, and three sisters, Ruby Floyd, Alice Allen and Dennis Reavis.

As a friend, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she will always be remembered for her amazing zest for life.

Surviving are her daughter, Jacquelyn Kleiss and husband Joe of Cary; three grandchildren, Marc Kleiss and wife Deanna of Raleigh, Kristen Sullivan and husband Neil of Cary, and David Kleiss and wife Jennifer of Cary; and her dearly loved great-grandchildren, Kate Sullivan, Melissa Sullivan, Norah Kleiss and Sutton Kleiss.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 24, 2014, at 11 a.m. at Flowers Funeral Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Donald Lowery. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Hospice of Wake County, 250 Hospice Circle, Raleigh, NC 27607, for their loving care of Hazel and her family during her final days.

James F. Ayscue

HENDERSON — James Franklin Ayscue, 86, of 673 Weldon Road (in the Epsom Community), died Saturday, April 19, 2014.

Born in Franklin County, he was the son of the late Dewey and Mamie Dent Ayscue.

He was married for 64 years to the late Harriet Miller Ayscue.

Mr. Ayscue was a retired farmer. He was one of Jehovah’s Witnesses attending the Louisburg English Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 23, 2014, at 2:30 p.m. at Flowers Funeral Chapel conducted by Kirk Taylor III. Burial will follow in Sunset Gardens.

Surviving are three daughters, Wanda A. Foster and husband Donny of Boquete, Panama, Deborah A. McGhee and husband Calvin of Henderson, and Dawn A. Brantley and husband James of Pilot; a brother, Raymond Ayscue and wife Dot of Epsom; nine grandchildren, Donna Bullock and husband Frank, Tina Williamson and husband Tony, Michael Edgerton and wife Lisa, Jamie Foster and wife Krystle, Alan Newman and wife Shannon, Staci Ottaway and husband Chuck, Chris Storey, Mia Storey and Tyler Storey; and five great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Chloe A. Joyner and Shirley A. Wynne.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, April 22, from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at Flowers Funeral Home.

Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the Franklin County Animal Shelter, 351 T. Kemp Road, Louisburg, NC 27549.

TOWNSVILLE — Cecil Carter, of 720 Tungsten Mine Road, died Sunday, April 20, 2014, at his home.

Arrangements are by Wright Funeral Home in Oxford.

 

Silvester R. Durham

MANSON — Silvester Romeo Durham, 81, of 212 Burchette Road, died Saturday, April 19, 2014, at Litchford Falls Nursing and Rehabilitation in Raleigh.

A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 24, at Oak Level United Church of Christ.

Viewing will be Wednesday, April 23, from noon to 6 p.m. at Davis-Royster Funeral Service and at the church one hour prior to the service.

The family is receiving friends at the residence.

Arrangements are by Davis-Royster Funeral Service.

 

Elizabeth Sneed

HENDERSON — Elizabeth Sneed, 90, of Kerr Lake Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, died Sunday, April 20, 2014.
