Rosa L. Curtis

OXFORD — Rosa Louise Curtis, 74, a resident of 143 Brookside Lane, Oxford, died Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2012, at her residence.
She was a member of True Faith Fellowship Baptist Church.
Curtis was educated in the Franklin County School System and was employed with Bob’s Barbecue for many years until her health declined.
Survivors include her husband, Jerry Curtis of the home; one daughter, Carolyn Brown of Oxford; one son, Jerry Lee Curtis of Creedmoor; one grandchild; two great-grandchildren; and four great-great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, Dec. 2, 2012, at 3 p.m., in the Betts & Son Funeral Home Chapel with a eulogy delivered by the Rev. Richard L. Jackson.
Interment will follow in the Synama Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.
Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service (from 2-3 p.m.) on Sunday.
A viewing is scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 1, 2012, from 11 a.m.-6 p.m., at the funeral home.
The family will receive friends at the home.
Services are by Betts & Son Funeral Home, Inc., in Oxford.

Shirley A. Foster

VANCE COUNTY — Shirley Ann Foster died Tuesday Nov. 20, 2012.
A Jehovah’s witness, Foster was born Aug. 17, 1962, in Brooklyn, N.Y. She was the eighth child of the late Geneva and Herman Foster.
She was educated in the New York City School System, where she then graduated with honors from Prospect Heights High School. She pursued short hand and was later employed by the New York City Courts. Foster eventually became a nurse’s aide.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Dec. 1, 2012, at 11 a.m., in the chapel of Davis-Royster Funeral Service. Discourse will be given by Christopher Foster. Interment will follow at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church.
Survivors include six children, Jenean, Anthony, Christina, Troy, Donnetta and Sharice; nine grandchildren; four sisters, Elaine, Dolores, Theresa and Christine; and eight brothers, Herman, Christopher, Joseph, Ollie, Sayon, Nathan, David and Clarence.
A viewing will be held today, from 1-6 p.m., at the funeral home.

HENDERSON — William Foster, 45, died Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2012, at Maria Parham Medical Center in Henderson.

Hazel O. Shank

OXFORD — Hazel Owens Shank, 91, a resident of Granville County, died Thursday, Nov. 22, 2012, at her home.
Born on Nov. 28, 1920, in Rowan County, she was the daughter of the late Espy and Beulah Karriker Owens.
Burial will be held at Valhalla Memorial Park in North Hollywood, Calif.
She is survived by a son, C. J. Sutton of Michigan; daughters, Joyce Ellickson of Arizona and Paulette Stamper of Oxford; sisters, Evelyn Karriker of Mooresville and Hilda Wood of Kannapolis; one brother, Jack Owens of Mooresville; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Local arrangements are by J. M. White Funeral Home.

Thomas Solomon

WARRENTON — Thomas Solomon, 54, of Warrenton, died Monday, Nov. 26, 2012, at Maria Parham Medical Center in Henderson.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday, Nov. 30, 2012, at 2 p.m., at Shiloh Baptist Church in Arcola. The Rev. Kenneth Richardson will officiate and burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Survivors include: one daughter, Chaundra Williams; two sisters, Lola Allen of Warrenton and Jacquelyn Solomon LeMay of Henderson; four brothers, Michael Solomon and Jackie Solomon, both of Warrenton, and Donnie Solomon and Karon Solomon, both of Henderson.
The body was on view Thursday, Nov. 29, 2012, from 3-7 p.m., at Boyd’s Funeral Service Chapel in Warrenton.


Lucy A Williams

WARREN COUNTY — Lucy Somerville Alston Williams, 91, of New Jersey (formerly of Warren County), died in New Jersey.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, Dec. 1, 2012, at 2 p.m., at Coley Springs Baptist Church in Warrenton. Pastor Carson James, senior pastor, will officiate and burial will follow at church cemetery.
Survivors include: her children, Isaac Somerville of Atlantic City, N.J., Debbie Alston-Molley and Lena Blount, both of Pleasantville, N.J., Lucille Houston of Middletown, N.Y., Addie M. Smith of St. George, S.C., and Anthony Alston of Ridgeway; 22 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; 21 great-great-grandchildren.
The body will be on view today, from 11 a.m.-7 p.m., at Boyd’s Funeral Services Chapel in Warrenton.
