Darlene V. Collier

HENDERSON — Beverly Darlene Van Horn Collier, 72, of 4205 Salem Road, Oxford, died Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2013, at Meadowview Terrace in Clarksville, Va.

Born in Muncie, Ind., she was the daughter of the late Emzy William Van Horn and Danna Moore Van Horn.

Mrs. Collier was a retired manager at Oak Hill Apartments. She was a member of New Horizons Baptist Church.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Feb. 23, 2013, at 2 p.m., at Flowers Funeral Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Cam Ford and the Rev. Ernest Bowes. Burial will follow in Sunset Gardens.

Surviving are her husband, Henry Daniel “Hank” Collier; a daughter, Lynette Collier Tilley and husband, Bret, of Bullock; a son, Glenn Daniel Collier and wife, Tonya, of Reidsville; a brother, Gary L. Van Horn of Alexandria, La.; and two grandchildren, Jessie Leigh Tilley and Lori Glynn Tilley.

The family will receive friends today, from 7-8:30 p.m., at Flowers Funeral Home. All other times, they will be at the home of Lee “Pete” Collier, 1375 Ruin Creek Road, Henderson.

Flowers will be accepted; or memorials may be made to New Horizons Baptist Church, Building Fund, c/o Rev. Cam Ford, 4523 Belltown Road, Oxford, NC 27565.

Kenya O. Hodges

HENDERSON — Kenya Odessa Hodges, 34, of 517 Daniel St., Henderson, died Saturday, Feb. 16, 2013.

Born in Queens County, N.Y., she was the daughter to the late Donna Kelly.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, Feb. 23, 2013, at 11 a.m., at Progressive Faith Missionary Baptist Church by the Rev. Ovid Yancey. Burial will follow in Long Greek Holy Church Cemetery.

The body will be on view today, from 1-5 p.m., at the funeral home and at the church one hour before the service.

Jerome Kearney

HENDERSON — Jerome Kearney, 33, of 431 Cross Creek Road, Henderson, died Saturday, Feb. 16, 2013, in Henderson.

He was born Dec. 4, 1979, in Durham County, to Annie Hawkins Kearney and the late Raymond Kearney.

He attended the public schools of Vance County.

Funeral service will be conducted Saturday, Feb. 23, 2013, at 2 p.m., at Progressive Faith Missionary Baptist Church with Elder Richard Batts, pastor, officiating. Interment will follow in Blacknall Cemetery.

Survivors include: his mother, Annie Hawkins Kearney of Henderson; four daughters: Skyy Kearney of Oxford, and Aniah Kearney, Jamiah Kearney and Brianna Kearney, all of Henderson; two grandmothers; three sisters, Janie Davis, LaShauna Davis and Jasmina Kearney, all of Henderson; and one brother, Raymond Alston of Henderson.

A viewing will take place today, from noon-6 p.m., at the funeral home and at the church one hour prior to the service.

The family is receiving friends at the residence.

Willie B. Palmer

HENDERSON — Willie Jane Blue Palmer, 79, a resident of Kerr Lake Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Henderson, died Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2013, at Maria Parham Medical Center in Henderson.

She was born Aug. 12, 1933, in Warren County, to the late Nellie Mae Bullock Blue and Robert Frank Blue.

She was educated in the public schools of Warren County and joined Manson Baptist Church at an early age, remaining a member until her health declined.

Funeral service will be conducted Sunday, Feb. 24, 2013, at 2 p.m., at Progressive Faith Missionary Baptist Church with Elder Richard Batts, pastor, officiating. Interment will follow in Blacknall Cemetery.

Survivors include: three daughters, Lucy Harrison and Rosa Davis, both of Warrenton, and Mary Palmer of Henderson; four sons, William M. Davis of Henderson, Malik Shabazz of the Williamsboro community, James Palmer of Stem and Ernest Palmer of Warrenton; 15 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

A viewing will take place Saturday, Feb. 23, 2013, from noon-5:30 p.m., at the funeral home and at the church one hour prior to the service.

The family is receiving friends at the home of Lucy Harrison, 126 Brown Hills Road, Warrenton.

Ethel B. Terry

HENDERSON — Ethel Baxter Boyd Terry, 87, a resident of 303 Horner St., Henderson, died Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2013, at Maria Parham Medical Center in Henderson.

She was born in Vance County, oldest of six children, to the late Ernest and Elsie Gregory Boyd on Feb. 27, 1925.

At an early age, she joined Kesler Temple AME Zion Church, serving as deaconess and missionary. She attended Central Grade School and Vance County Public Schools. Later in life, she enrolled at Vance-Granville Community College.

She attended Saint Andrews Christian Church and Spring Street Baptist Church in her community.

In 1945, she met and married the late Raymond Terry, who joined her at Kesler temple Church.

She was very active with the home extension service, flower clubs and Willing Workers Club.

For many years she was a homemaker and later worked and retired at Northern Vance High School. She was also a receptionist at E.C. Terry’s Funeral Service.

She was a member of Good Will Baxter Order of Eastern Stars, Henderson, Assembly No. 195 and Imran Court No. 55, serving matron, loyal lady ruler and charter member/treasurer and received several honors.

Survivors include: three sons, Raymond T. Terry Jr., Ernest C. Terry and Michael D. Terry, all of Henderson; several grandchildren; one great-grandson; one brother, William A “Samp” Boyd; and two sisters, Susan B. Fitts and Geraldine B. Harrelson, all of Henderson.

In addition to her parents and her husband, those who preceded in death include: one sister, Doris B. Stokes; and one brother, Ernest Boyd.

Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, Feb. 24, 2013, at 2 p.m., at Kesler Temple AME Zion Church, E. Winder St., Henderson, with the Rev. Dr. Elijah Coleman, pastor, officiating. Interment will follow in the Sunset Gardens Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the church Saturday, Feb. 23, 2013, from 6-7:30 p.m., with fraternal rites, and the viewing will be Saturday, from noon-6 p.m., at E.C. Terry’s Funeral Services Chapel. A second viewing will take place Sunday, Feb. 24, 2013, one hour prior to the services.

Floral and pallbearers will be family and friends. Honorary floral bearers will be Eastern Stars, Goodwill Baxter, Daughters of Isis, Imran Court No. 55, Assembly No. 195 Golden Circle, and missionaries and deaconesses of Kesler Temple Church. Honorary pallbearers will masons, and the trustee of Kesler Temple Church.
