Martha E. Garner

REIDSVILLE — Martha Elizabeth Garner, 87, of Montpelier, Va., formally of Durham and Reidsville, passed away on Monday, Feb. 18, 2013.

She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Robert E. Garner; three sons, Randall (Linda), Barry (Laura) and Darryl (Nancy) Garner; a daughter, Janet Smith (Gary); four sisters, Mary, Thelma, Laura and Linda; one brother, John; also, six grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. Mrs. Garner was employed at General Telephone and American Tobacco Company in Durham.

The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 22, 2013, at the Nelsen Funeral Home, 412 S. Washington Hwy., Ashland, Va., where services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 23, 2013. Interment will be private in North Carolina.

Sue D. Robertson

PINEHURST — Sue Dunn Robertson, age 94, a resident of Carolina House in Pinehurst, and a former resident of Cypress Drive in Henderson, died Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2013, in Pinehurst.

Born on Oct. 12, 1918, in Vance County, she was the daughter of the late William J. Dunn and Geneva Weldon Dunn, and was the widow of Woodrow W. Robertson. Mrs. Robertson was a member of the First Baptist Church in Henderson where she was a former Sunday School Teacher, having taught for 25 years in the Adult, Intermediate and Dorothy Currin Sunday School classes, and was a former member of the Sue Kelly Missionary Circle. She was also a former member of the James B. White Chapter of the Eastern Star, Daughters of the American Revolution, United Daughters of the Confederacy, and Daughters of 1812. She was a member of the former Henderson Woman’s Club, board of directors of the Vance County Cancer Society of which she served as president, and the Granville County Genealogy Society.

Graveside services will be held Thursday, Feb. 21, 2013, at 1:30 p.m., at Elmwood Cemetery by Dr. Marion D. Lark and the Rev. David Helms.

She is survived by one daughter, Carol Eaves Robertson and husband, Tony, of Aberdeen; two grandsons, Anthony Craig Robertson Jr. and Andrew Wilson Robertson; and six great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Thursday, from noon-1 p.m., at J. M. White Funeral Home

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Baptist Children’s Home, P. O. Box 338, Thomasville, NC 27361-0338, or to FirstHealth Hospice Foundation, 150 Applecross Road, Pinehurst, NC 28374.

Larry E. Boyd

BUTNER — Larry Edward Boyd, 57, a lifetime resident of Granville County, died Sunday, Feb. 17, 2013, at his home.

A native of Granville County, he was the son of the late John Edward Boyd. He was of the Baptist faith and an avid golfer.

A memorial service celebrating Boyd’s life will be held at the home today, at 3 p.m., by the Rev. Jim Turnbough.

Survivors include: his mother, Ruth Breedlove Boyd of the home; and a brother, Jerry L. Boyd of Creedmoor.

Visitation will follow the memorial service at the home.

WARRENTON — Winnie Hargrove, 50, of Warrenton, died Monday, Feb. 18, 2013, at Maria Parham Medical Center in Henderson.

HENDERSON — Priscilla Kearney-Bullock, 60, of Henderson, died Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2013, at Granville Health System in Oxford.
