Willie B. Jefferson
HENDERSON — Willie Boyd Jefferson, of 2277 Thomas Road, entered eternal life quietly on Aug. 12, 2014, at Maria Parham Medical Center in Henderson.
He was born July 6, 1918, to the late Will Jefferson and the late Viola Henderson Jefferson in Vance County.
“Bro,” as he was affectionately known by those closest to him, was a lifelong member of Woodsworth Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon for many years. He was a World War II veteran and a graduate of Winston-Salem Teacher’s College (currently Winston-Salem State University).
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first and second wives, Iola Jones Jefferson and Beulah Weaver Jefferson; four brothers, John (JD) Jefferson, James (Jimmy) Jefferson, Henry (Pie) Jefferson, Junious (Mitch) Jefferson and George Jay Jefferson; three sisters, Dorothy Lou (Lot) McArthur, Ethel (Lit) Holland and Bettie Mae Wimbush; and one grandson, Lunsford (Duece) Brown II.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 17, at Antioch Christian Church in Townsville with the Rev. Glendora Hargrove bringing the eulogy.
He leaves to cherish his loving memory three daughters, June Royster-Tucker (Tommy) and Deborah F. Brown (Lunsford) of Henderson and Ethel J. Anderson (Leroy) of Oxford; four sons, Vincent E. (Bernadette), Victor C. (Louise), Gordon G. (Bernadine) and Juan R. Jefferson, all of Henderson; one brother, Winston O. Jefferson of Wentzville, Missouri; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, and other relatives and friends.
The family will receive friends Saturday, Aug. 16, from 2 to 5 p.m. at the home.

RICHMOND, Va. — Gloria Jean Crocker Cowan, 72, of 6614 Fernwood St., formerly of Henderson, died Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2014.
Arrangements will be announced by Flowers Funeral Home.

KINGS MOUNTAIN — Hazel Speer Hayes, 82, formerly of Henderson, died Thursday, Aug. 14, 2014, in Kings Mountain.
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 17, at Westwood Pentecostal Holiness Church. Burial will follow in Sunset Gardens.
The family will receive friends Sunday, Aug. 17, from 1 to 2 p.m. at the church.

William I. Levister
WARRENTON — William Isaac Levister died Thursday, Aug. 17, 2014, at his home in Warren County.
A memorial service will be held at noon Saturday, Aug. 16, at Roanoke Chapel Christian Church in Boydton, Virginia, by the Rev. Curtis McRae and the Rev. Mary Hargrove.
Arrangements are by R.H. Greene Funeral Home.
HENDERSON — Christopher Ragland, 36, of 2396 Glebe Road, died Tuesday, Aug. 12, 2014.
A funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 16, at Oak Level United Church of Christ by Pastor Leon White. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
Viewing will be from 1 to 6 p.m. today, Aug. 15, at the funeral home and at the church one hour prior to the service.
The family will receive friends at 663 Burchette Road, Manson.

FORT WASHINGTON, Md. — Lee Andrew Towns, 80, formerly of Warren County, died Sunday, Aug. 3, 2014, at his residence.
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 16, at United Solid Rock Faith Ministries in Warrenton by the Rev. Moore H. Bynum. Burial will follow in United Solid Rock Memorial Gardens.
Viewing will be one hour prior to the service Saturday at the church.
