Miriam W. Patterson

RALEIGH — Miriam Weaver Patterson, 86, died peacefully Thursday, Oct. 31, 2013, at Elmcroft Senior Living Facility.

Miriam was born March 8, 1927, in Durham, to the late Margaret Harton Weaver and the late Henry Clay Weaver Jr.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James “Pat” Patterson of Henderson.

Miriam retired from Roses Inc., where she worked as a receptionist at the Raleigh Road Warehouse for more than 20 years.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 3, in the chapel of Bright Funeral Home.

She is survived by her children, Priscilla Bullock of Wake Forest and her son Dean Patterson of Tampa, Fla.; two sisters, Catherine Cawthorne of Durham and Joanne Poythress of Cary; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in memory of Miriam to Hospice of Wake County, 250 Hospice Circle, Raleigh, NC 27607.

Friends may visit with the family immediately following the service at Bright Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 405 South Main Street, Wake Forest.

Willie R. Adcock

OXFORD — Mr. Willie Ray Adcock, age 90, died Thursday, Oct. 31, 2013, at his home.

He was a native of Granville County and the son of the late Emmett Abson and Nettie Howard Adcock and his stepmother Teresa (Resa) Pruitt.

Willie Ray was a member of Hester Baptist Church, where he served on many church committees, including deacon, trustee and the brotherhood. He was also on the board of directors of REA, ASCS Office and Farmer’s Exchange.

Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, Nov. 2, 2013, at 2 p.m. at Hester Baptist Church by Dr. Randy Bridges, Rev. Alex Gallimore and Dr. Lavelle Waters. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

Surviving are his daughter, Barbara Adcock Newcomb (Sonny) of Durham; sons, J. Howard Adcock (Linda) of Durham and William T. Adcock (Beth), Ken Adcock (Kay) and Ernest R. Adcock, all of Oxford; sister, Luetta Frazier of Oxford; nine grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his extended family, the E. Marable family.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Bessie Mae Currin Adcock; brother, Raymond A. Adcock; and a sister, Hettie Averette.

The family would like to thank the caregivers, Linda and James Morris and also Amedisys Hospice Care.

The family will receive friends today, Nov. 1, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Gentry-Newell & Vaughan Funeral Home. At other times they will be at the home of William and Beth Adcock.

COLLEGEDALE, Tenn. — Gertrude Daniel Newman, 97, of 9650 Leyland Drive, died Thursday, Oct. 31, 2013, at Memorial Hospital North Park in Chattanooga, Tenn.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 3, at Flowers Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow in Sunset Gardens.
