Rosetta B. Betts

OXFORD — Rosetta B. Betts, 79, of 8172 Charlie Stovall Road, died Wednesday, July 10, 2013, at her home, surrounded by her family.

She was the daughter of the late Robert and Esther Bagby, born on July 27, 1933, in Granville County.

She was educated in the Granville County school system and was a member of the St. Matthew Missionary Baptist Church, where she formerly served as church clerk, chairperson of the hospitality committee, Sunday school and Vacation Bible School teacher, co-founder of the youth choir and presently served on the Usher Board.

She was employed by the Murdoch Center in Butner for 18 years. Rosetta was co-founder and secretary of Betts & Son Funeral Home.

Survivors include her husband of 62 years, James W. Betts of the home; children — Bettie Betts, Bishop J. Phillip Betts and wife Teresa, Pastor Ronnie Betts and wife Mabel, Carol Parker and husband George, Mildred Rogers and husband Kelvin, William Betts and wife Cynthia, and Minister Joyce B. Thorpe, all of Oxford; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; one brother, Tommie Lee Yancey of Oxford; sister-in-laws Amy L. Downey, Willie Mae Betts and Melcina Yancey, all of Oxford, Dorothy Winborne and husband, Luther, of Trenton, N.J., and Mildred Carter of Philadelphia.

A funeral will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, July 16, 2013, at the St. Matthew Missionary Baptist Church, with eulogy by Rev. Gregory J. Webb Sr. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Viewing will be from 11:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Monday. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home and other times at the home.

Lois Allen

DURHAM — Lois Allen, 81, of 4214 Sweet Gum Court, died Wednesday, July 10, 2013, at her residence.

A funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, July 15, 2013, at Brookston Baptist Church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Viewing will be held from noon to 5:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home and at the church one hour prior to the service.

The family is receiving friends at 845 Park Avenue in Henderson.

HENDERSON — William L. Brown, 69, of 148 Hunting Trail Lane, died Friday, July 12, 2013, at Maria Parham Medical Center.
