Donna S. Penny

DURHAM — Donna Lane Stephenson Penny, 67, a longtime resident of Granville County, passed away Thursday, April 25, 2013, at Duke Hospice in Durham.

A native of Wake County, she was the daughter of the late Zoe Neil and Edith Clayton Stephenson. She was a dedicated church member of Oxford Baptist Church and later became a committed member of Central Baptist Church, where she enjoyed serving the Lord through multiple overseas mission trips. Donna was a devoted mother to her children and grandchildren.

Surviving are a daughter, Melissa Wilkerson (Jonathan) of Oxford; her son Doug Penny (Kimberly) of Raleigh; three granddaughters, Jordan Wilkerson, Skylar Mulhollen and Lydia Penny; and four grandsons, Caleb Cox, Dylan Wilkerson, Austin Wilkerson and Joshua Penny. Also surviving are a brother, O’Neal Stephenson (Judy) of Fuquay-Varina. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Aimee P. Mulhollen, and a brother, Lenwood Stephenson.

A private graveside service will be held at Elmwood Cemetery, Saturday morning, April 27, 2013. A funeral service will be held at Central Baptist Church, Henderson, at 1 p.m., Saturday, April 27, 2013.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Central Baptist Church Missions Fund, P.O. Box 178, Henderson, NC 27536.

Willie Alston

HENDERSON — Willie Alston, 87, of 1000 S. Chestnut St., Henderson, died Monday, April 22, 2013, at Kindred Care Nursing Center in Henderson.

Born in Franklin County, he was the son of the late Willie and Nancy Alston.

During the late 1950s, he moved to Brooklyn, N.Y., where he joined Washington Temple Church of God in Christ before moving to Henderson in his later years.

Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, April 28, 2013, at 2 p.m., in the chapel at Davis-Royster Funeral Service. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery.

Survivors include: his wife, Lucille Reid Alston of Brooklyn, N.Y.; three daughters, Juliet Alston and Teresa Alston, both of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Vivian Alston of Philadelphia, Pa.; one sister, Sallie Smith of Henderson; and four grandchildren.

The family is receiving friends at the residence of Lucy Hill, 709 Berry St., Henderson. The body will be on view at the funeral home Saturday, April 27, 2013, from 1-5:30 p.m.

Annie B. Bush

MANSON — Annie B. Bush, 100, of 1551 Wilson Brothers Road in Manson, died Monday, April 22, 2013, at her residence.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, April 27, 2013, at noon, at Penuel RZUA Church in Boydton, Va. The Rev. William Mayes, pastor, will officiate and burial will follow at Fort Lincoln Cemetery in Brentwood, Md.

The body will be on view today, from 11 a.m.-7 p.m., at Boyd’s Funeral Services Chapel in Warrenton.

Hetre C. Fields

NEWARK, N.J. — Hetre Lee Crudup Fields, 79, former resident of Vance County, died Wednesday, April 10, 2013, in Newark, N.J.

She was born to the late Hetre Dent and the Rev. John Crudup on Aug. 3, 1933, in Dinwiddie, Va.
She was educated in Virginia and New Jersey public schools.

She was married to the late John Owen Fields Sr. and was employed as a CNA in Newark, N.J., until her retirement. She was ordained in 1986 in Newark, N.J. She relocated to Henderson in 1996, where she was employed with Maria Parham Medical Center.

She was a member of St. James Baptist Church in Henderson.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 27, 2013, at 11 a.m., in the chapel at Davis-Royster Funeral Service.

Survivors include: three daughters, Apostle Mary L. Paye and Denette Fields, both of Newark, N.J., Nicole Fields of Henderson; 12 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
The family is receiving friends at 141 Young St., Henderson.

Nannie L. Hester

OXFORD — Nannie Lyons Hester, 83, a resident of 7048 Old West Lane, Oxford, died Thursday, April 25, 2013, at her home.

Funeral arrangements will be announced later by Betts & Son Funeral Home.

Connie M. Hite

STOVALL — Connie M. Hite, 79, of Stovall, died Wednesday, April 24, 2103.

A native of Halifax County, Va., he was the son of the late George Bernard and Rosa O’Geary Hite, a retired employee of Burlington Industries, Clarksville, Va., a veteran of the U.S. Army and a member of Marrow’sChapel United Methodist Church.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, April 27, 2013, at 11 a.m., at Marrow’s Chapel by the Rev. Darrel Bowles. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Nellie M. Hite; and his son, Steve Hite of Henderson.

He was predeceased by his sisters, Polly H. Puryear and Melcoie H. Callahan.

Flowers will be accepted, or memorial may be made  to the cemetery fund of Marrow’s Chapel United Methodist Church, c/o Marshall Tingen, 9034 McDuffie Road, Oxford, NC 27565.

The family will receive friends today, from 7-8:30 p.m., at Gentry-Newell & Vaughan Funeral Home in Oxford and at other times at the home.

HENDERSON — Willie Alfred Lewis, 74, of 31 McNair Circle, Henderson, died Wednesday, April 24, 2013, at his residence.

Vanessa W. Meadows

HENDERSON — Vanessa Williams Meadows, 50, of 956 Baltimore Road in Warrenton, died Monday, April 22, 2013, at Maria Parham Medical Center in Henderson.

Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, April 28, 2013, at 2 p.m., at Island Hill United Church of Christ Church in Clarksville, Va. The Rev. John Jefferson, pastor, will officiate and burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Survivors include: her husband, Robert Alexander Meadows; five children, James Milam, Jalesa R. Milam, Theresa S. Milam, Joyce A. Meadows and LeeAnn Meadows; one grandchild; one sister, Regina Jewer; and one brother, Vince L. Williams.

The body will be on view Saturday, April 27, 2013, from 11 a.m.-7 p.m., at Boyd’s Funeral Services Chapel in Warrenton.

Russell L. Partin

HENDERSON — Russell “Terry” Lewis Partin died Thursday, April 25, 2013, at Kerr Lake Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Henderson.

He was born in Vance County on Jan. 24, 1962, to Peggy Coghill Partin and the late James Lewis Partin.

Surviving are his mother, Peggy Partin; three daughters, Crystal P. Church, April Partin and Randy Adcock; two sisters, Tammy Parrish and Jamee Renn; and five grandchildren. Those preceding him in death were his father.
Memorial services will be held Sunday, April 28, 2013, at 3 p.m., at Bible Baptist Church on Raleigh Road, with the Rev. Wilbert Horton in charge. The family will receive friends at the church Sunday, from 2-3 p.m., and other times at 434 Cedar St., Henderson.

Mary P. Talley

HENDERSON — Mary Eliza Peace Talley, 79, of 820 Coble Blvd., Henderson, died Wednesday, April 24, 2013, at her residence.

Born in Vance County, she was the daughter of the late James Alexander and Sudie Wilkerson Peace.

She was educated in the Vance County Schools. She joined Mt. Moriah AME Zion Church at an early age and remained an active member until her health declined.

She served on the Ushers Board, Willing Workers’ Club and the missionary department, and as a Sunday School teacher.

She was employed by Senior Citizens Home for several years until retirement.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, April 27, 2013, at 1 p.m., at Mt. Moriah AME Zion Church by the Rev. John Pugh. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Survivors include: her husband, Harrison Talley of the home; four daughters, Rosa Cannady, Ella Evans, Priscilla Talley and Donna Fauntleroy, all of Henderson; two sons, Keith Talley and William Talley, both of Henderson; two sisters, Amy Kittrell and Helen Perry, both of Henderson; three brothers, James H. Peace of Kittrell, Arthur Peace of Oxford and Robert Peace of Henderson; 24 grandchildren; and 43 great-grandchildren.

The family is receiving friends at 820 Coble Blvd., Bldg. 2A, Henderson. The body will be on view today, from noon-6 p.m., at the funeral home and at the church one hour before the service.
