Mary L. Barnett

HENDERSON — Mary Lou Morris Barnett, age 91, a resident of 108 Fernwood Creek Court, died Wednesday, April 9, 2014, in a local nursing home.

She was born on Nov. 10, 1922, in Masontown, Pa., and raised in Dundalk and Baltimore, Md.

She was the daughter of the late James Robert Morris and Corinne Talbot Morris and was the widow of Leonard Barnett.

Mary Lou retired in 1984 as the Vance County Clerk Of Superior Court. She was a member of First Baptist Church for more than 55 years and was a member of the Dorothy Currin Sunday School Class, and a member of the Colonial Garden Club.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 12, 2014, at 11 a.m. in the Leathers Memorial Chapel at First Baptist Church by Dr. Ronald S. Cava. A private burial will be at Elmwood Cemetery.

She is survived by one daughter, Linda B. Hall and husband Thomas of Henderson; one son, Michael L. Barnett and wife Susan of Franklin, Tenn.; one sister, Sara M. Young of Fort Wayne, Ind.; one brother-in-law, Charles Barnett of Henderson; two grandchildren, Corrie B. Blair and husband Joseph and Kristopher M. Barnett and wife Andrea; two step-grandchildren, Shelby H. Hemmen and husband Kian, and Gregory Hall; four great-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the church fellowship hall and at other times they will be at the home, at 108 Fernwood Creek Court.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 75, Henderson, NC 27536.

The family would like to give special thanks to her caregiver, Elizabeth Whitley, and the staff at Senior Citizens Nursing Home.

Freddie E. Patterson, Sr.

BLOUNTS CREEK — Freddie Eugene Patterson, Sr., age 73, a resident of Hollis Drive, Blounts Creek, died Wednesday, April 9, 2014, at the Veterans Medical Center in Durham.

There will be a graveside celebration of his life with military honors at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 12, at Island Creek Baptist Church Cemetery, Henderson, officiated by Marshal Neatherly.

The family will receive friends at the cemetery following the service.

The family will also receive friends Friday, April 11, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Hillside Funeral Service, 4500 U.S. 264 East, Washington.

Freddie was born July 12, 1940, in Henderson, son of the late Louis Franklin Patterson and Annie Mae Ellis Patterson. He was married to Hilda Hoffman Patterson, who survives. Freddie served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1961 to 1967. He had made Blounts Creek his home since the 1980s.

Freddie was a salesman with Hastings Ford. He was a member of Island Creek Baptist Church, Masonic Order 634 and Sudan Temple in Goldsboro, VFW and DAV in Washington, and Moose Club 1800. Freddie was also a member of the American Legion and A&A Scottish Rite Free Masonry, SJ, USA.

In addition to his wife, Freddie is survived by his sons, Freddie Patterson and wife Brenda of Roxboro, Rodney Patterson and wife Shelia of Kittrell, Richard Rose Jr. and wife Amelia of Durham, and Kevin Rose and wife Jennifer of Columbus, Ga.; 10 grandchildren; five nieces; and one nephew.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his daughter, Michelle Duke.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Masonic Home for Children, 600 College Ave., Oxford, NC 27565, or the Sudan Temple Crippled Children’s Fund, PO Drawer 490, New Bern, NC 28563-0490.

HENDERSON — Susie Bell Ashe, 60, of 88 Lincoln Ave., died Saturday, April 5, 2014, at Kindred Hospital in Greensboro.

A funeral will be held at noon on Saturday, April 12, at Freedom Life Church of God. Interment will follow in Sunset Gardens.

Viewing is today, April 11, from noon to 6 p.m. in the chapel of Davis-Royster Funeral Service and at the church one hour prior to the service.

WARRENTON — Solomon Alston, Jr., 67 of 1203 Martin Luther King Blvd., Warrenton, died Thursday, April 3, 2014, at Durham VA Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. today, April 11, at Greenwood Baptist Church in Warrenton.

Rev. Perline Cooper will officiate and burial will follow in the church cemetery.

RICHMOND, Va. — Parthennia Johnson Harris, 77, of Richmond, Va., died Monday, April 7, 2014, at her residence.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, April 12, at 11:30 a.m. at Greater Lovely Hill Baptist Church in Macon by Rev. William W. Faulcon, Jr.

Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

MANSON — Margaret R. Jordan, 80, died Sunday, April 6, 2014, at Maria Parham Medical Center.

A funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 12, in the chapel of Boyd’s Funeral Services in Warrenton by Rev. Cora Boyd. Burial will follow at the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church Cemetery in Manson.
