Garland L. Foushee [with photo]
MONCURE — Rev. Garland Lewis Foushee, 89, died Sunday, Sept. 29, 2013, at Duke University Medical Center.
He was born in Lee County on Jan. 7, 1924, to the late Marvin Carl Foushee and Lessie Byrd Foushee.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by brothers Elton B. Foushee, Carl Clifton Foushee, Malcom Ross Foushee, Russell Foushee and John Vernon Foushee; and a sister, Bronnie Myers Acorn.
Rev. Foushee attended Campbell College, Wake Forest College and New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary and finished his degree at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary. He served as pastor of East Sanford Baptist Church in Sanford for 14 years. Rev. Foushee also pastored in the following North Carolina locations: Turkey, Maysville, Henderson, Zebulon, Beulaville and Fairmont. In 1991 he retired and returned to the family homeplace in Chatham County. He was a member of Gum Springs Baptist Church in Moncure.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Ethel Henderson Foushee; son, Kenneth Foushee and wife Nancy of Sanford; two daughters, Karen Foushee Cameron and husband Jimmy of Sanford, and Beth Foushee Brafford and husband Jeff of Broadway; two sisters, Reda Partin and husband Fred of Moncure and Coleen Boone of Pittsboro; and three grandchildren, Kensey Foushee Erkes and husband Jason of La Grange, Karey Foushee of Sanford and Will Brafford of Broadway.
The family received friends on Wednesday from 3 to 4 p.m. in the East Sanford Baptist Church fellowship hall. The funeral service followed at 4 p.m. with Rev. Robbie Gibson and Rev. Julian Motley officiating. Burial followed at Gum Springs Baptist Church cemetery with Rev. Jackie Franks officiating.

MANSON — Joseph Louis Bullock, 78, of 485 County Line Road, died Thursday, Sept. 26, 2013, at his residence.
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 4, 2013, at Oak Level United Church of Christ by Rev. Leon White.
The body will be on view from noon to 7 p.m. today at Davis-Royster Funeral Service and at the church one hour prior to the service.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home and at all other times at the residence.

OXFORD — Emanuel George “G.W.” Green, 71, of 7198 Shep Royster Road, died Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2013.

WARRENTON — John Walter Harris died Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2013, at Kingswood Nursing Center in Aberdeen.
A funeral was held at 1 p.m. Monday, Sept. 30, 2013, at Galilee Missionary Baptist Church. Burial followed in Serenity Memorial Park in Hoke County.
The body was on view at Purcell Funeral Home, 953 Pennsylvania Ave., Southern Pines.

OXFORD — Rosa Mae Hester, 65, of 8190 Charlie Stovall Road, died Monday, Sept. 30, 2013, at her home.
A funeral will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 5, 2013, at St. Matthew Baptist Church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
The body will be on view Friday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Betts & Son Funeral Home.
