Norman R. Hill

HENDERSON — Norman Raymond Hill, 89, of 909 Hargrove Street, died Thursday, Sept. 19, 2013, at Kerr Lake Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Born on April 24, 1924, in Vance County, he was the son of the late John Hill and Ophelia Faulkner Hill.

Mr. Hill was a member of The Church of the Holy Innocents. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving during World War II in the Pacific and Atlantic Theaters, and was the recipient of seven Battle Ribbons and 14 Battle Stars.

Norman was a member of the VFW Post 4096 in Norlina, of which he was a past commander; a member of the USS Alabama Crewman’s Association, of which he formerly served as secretary and president; and was a member of the American Legion.

He was a retired machinist in the Dynamatic Division of Eaton Corporation in Kenosha, Wis., where he worked for 34 years.

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at The Church of the Holy Innocents by Rev. Donald A. Lowery.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann Duesing Hill of the home; one daughter, Lynn Nalley and husband Lee of Columbus, Ga.; and one grandson, Brian C. Nalley.

He was preceded in death by one grandson, Sean T. Nalley.

The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the great hall of The Church of the Holy Innocents.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Church of the Holy Innocents, 210 South Chestnut St., Henderson, NC 27536.

Ruth S. Morefield

HENDERSON — Ruth Ann Smith Moorefield, 80, of 517 Hilliard Street, died Sunday, Sept. 22, 2013, in a local nursing home.

Born in Vance County on Sept. 3, 1933, she was the daughter of the late William Jethro Smith and Lucille Andrews Smith.

She was a retired licensed practical nurse at Maria Parham Medical Center.

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in the J.M. White Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Frank Sossamon.

She is survived by one daughter, Sharon Vick and husband Jimmy of Henderson; one son, Robert Ray Moorefield Jr. of the home; three sisters, Mattie Hendricks, Mildred Edwards and Brenda Turner; one brother, Robert Smith; five grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Ray Moorefield.

The family will receive friends prior to the service on Thursday from 1 to 2 p.m. at J.M. White Funeral Home. At other times they will be at the home at 517 Hilliard Street.

OXFORD — Ruth N. Yeargin died Saturday, Sept. 14, 2013.

A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 29, 2013, at the Oxford United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 3 to 4 p.m. Sunday in the fellowship hall of the church.
