Anthony M. Boone

HENDERSON — Anthony Meril “Tony” Boone, age 52, a resident of 1055 Eastern Blvd., died Saturday, Sept. 14, 2013, at Maria Parham Medical Center.

Born on Jan. 10, 1961 in Vance County, he was the son of Mary Kittrell Boone Parrish of Henderson, and the late James Cleveland Boone.

He was medically retired and was a former employee of the Waffle and Pancake House, and was a member of East Side Baptist Church.

Funeral services will be held Monday, Sept. 16, at 2 p.m. in the J.M. White Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Aubrey Florence. Burial will follow in Sunset Gardens.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his stepfather, Furham Parrish of the home; one brother, Eugene Parrish and wife, Gidget, of Henderson; and his caregivers, Sharon Foster and Darlene Boone.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by one sister, Denise B. Harp; and two brothers, Larry Dale Boone and Dennis James Boone.

The family will receive friends tonight, Sept. 15, from 7 until 8:30 p.m. at J.M. White Funeral Home. At other times they will be at the home of his mother at 1045 Eastern Blvd.

Serving as active pallbearers will be Daniel Parrish, Preston Parrish, Justin Harp, Keith Boone, Ashley Boone, Robert West, Lennie Riggan and Robert Roberson.

Contributions may be made to East Side Baptist Church, 1017 Eastern Blvd., Henderson, NC 27536.

Charlie R. Burgess

HENDERSON — Charlie Ray Burgess, Sr., age 51, a resident of 975 Julian Smith Road, died Thursday, Sept. 12, 2013, at MedCenter in High Point.

He was born in Union County, S.C., on March 29, 1962, and was preceded in death by his father, Charles Parker Burgess, his mother, Grace Joplin Deese, and his stepfather, Preston Deese.

He was employed as a truck driver for William T. Allen Trucking Co. and attended South Henderson Pentecostal Holiness Church.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at South Henderson Pentecostal Holiness Church by the Rev. Frank Sossamon. Burial will follow in Sunset Gardens.

He is survived by his wife, Sherry Lynn Lewis Burgess; one daughter, Amanda Burgess; one son, Chuckie Burgess, and one granddaughter, Emilye Lynn Burgess all of the home; three sisters, Betty B. Janson of Charleston, S.C., Rita B. Winters of Henderson, and Vickie B. Goforth of China Grove.

Serving as active pallbearers will be William “Buster” Roberts, Jamie Perkinson, Curtis “Buck” Lawless, Cameron Burgess, Tommie Stallings, Scottie Stevenson, Charles Orr, Rob Bloss and Kenny Kidd. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Sam Phillips, Curtis Sanford and Ferrell Dixon.

The family will receive friends Monday night from 7 until 8:30 p.m. at J.M. White Funeral Home. At other times they will be at the home.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to the Charlie Ray Burgess Sr. Funeral Fund, c/o J.M. White Funeral Home, 60 Zeb Robinson Road, Henderson, NC 27536.

Gennie Thorpe Elkerson

OXFORD — Gennie Thorpe Elkerson, 95, a resident of 4698 U.S. 15 South, died Friday, Sept. 13, 2013, at her home.

Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2013, at 2 p.m. at the New Hope Granville Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive visitors from 6 to 7 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 16, at the Betts and Son Funeral Home.

HENDERSON — Algene Jones Hanks, 82, of 527 Grant Street died Friday, Sept. 13, 2013, at Hock Family Pavilion in Durham.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Big Ruin Creek Missionary Baptist Church with Charles Burwell, the pastor, officiating.

A viewing will be held from noon to 6 p.m. Monday at the funeral home and at the church one hour prior to the service.

The family is receiving friends at the residence.
