Minda A. Brooks

HENDERSON — Minda Allen Brooks, 57, of Wilmington, died Monday, June 9, 2014, in Henderson.

She was born in Henderson on June 12, 1956, the daughter of Maxine Roberson Allen and the late John Thomas Allen Sr.

She grew up in Henderson and graduated from Vance Senior High School in 1976. She attended Mars Hill College and graduated from the John Robert Powers School of Modeling.

Minda began her career in sales and on Aug. 5, 1989, married Ray Brooks in Wilmington, where they lived and raised their children, Austin and Lauren. Most recently she worked for the child nutrition program in New Hanover County.

Minda was a caring and kind-hearted person, always doing for others. She loved everyone and was devoted to her friends and family, especially Ray, Austin and Lauren.

She is survived by her husband, Raymond Lee Brooks; daughter, Lauren Allen Brooks; son, Austin Claiborne Brooks; mother, Maxine Roberson Allen; brothers, John Thomas Allen Jr. and wife Gail, Charles Morgan Allen and wife Linda and Rodney Dale Allen and wife Vickie; sister, Ellen Allen Renn; sister-in-law, Meredith Brooks Jordan and husband Robert; brother-in-law, George Steven Brooks and wife Pat; and many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Saturday, June 14, 2014, from 1 to 2 p.m. at Andrews Valley Chapel. A memorial service will follow at 2 p.m.

Dale C. Smith

OXFORD — Dale Clark Smith died Thursday, June 12, 2014, at her home.

She was a native of Vance County and was the daughter of the late Harry Hunter and Joyce Forsythe Clark. Dale was a housewife and a member of Oxford Baptist Church.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, June 14, 2014, at 11 a.m. at Oxford Baptist Church by the Rev. Chris Aho. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.

Surviving are her husband, Edward Ossie Smith; daughters, Jennifer S. Keith and Elizabeth S. Land (Sheldon), all of Oxford; three grandchildren, Lauren Keith, Madeline Keith and Holden Land; three sisters, Diane Owen, Denise Corbitt and Julia Brooks; two nephews.

The family will receive friends Saturday, June 14, from 10 to 11 a.m. prior to the services in the parlor of the church. At other times they will be at the home.

Dolores S. Hunt

HENDERSON — Mrs. Dolores Jean Smith Hunt, age 73, died Thursday, June 12, 2014, at a local nursing home.

Born in Portsmouth, Virginia, on Aug. 5, 1940, she was the daughter of the late David Louis Smith and Ruth Bernice Perisher Smith. Mrs. Hunt was the widow of Billy Paul Hunt. She was a retired medical records clerk.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday at 3 p.m. in the chapel of J.M. White Funeral Home by the Rev. Frank Sossamon.

She is survived by her son, Ronnie Owens of Durham; a brother, Danny Smith; five grandchildren, Evan Owens, Aaron Owens, Megan Owens, Jamie Hecox and Jimmy Owens; and three great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and her husband she was preceded in death by a son, Michael James Owens.

The family will receive friends prior to the service on Saturday, from 2 to 3 p.m. at J.M. White Funeral Home.
