Clifton B. Moss

HENDERSON — Clifton Benton Moss, 89, of 500 Moss Stock Farm Road, Kittrell, died Sunday, June 8, 2014, at a local nursing home.

Born in Vance County, he was the son of the late William Lewis Moss Sr. and Vashti Woodlief Moss.

Mr. Moss was the owner and operator of Moss Stock Farms and was the fourth generation on the farm. He spent his entire life on the farm where he was born. For 57 years he and his brother Roger raised polled Hereford beef cattle and sold them all over the United States and several foreign countries. He also sold high-quality hay over a wide area in North Carolina.

He was a member of Raleigh Road Baptist Church and was a teacher of the Adult Men’s Sunday School Class.

A memorial service will be held Friday, June 13, 2014, at 11 a.m. at Raleigh Road Baptist Church, conducted by Dr. Larry Purcell.

Surviving are a sister, Dorothy Moss of Kittrell; a niece, Linda M. O’Brien; four nephews, Larry Moss, Dr. Ronald Moss, Steve Moss and Paul Moss; and two sisters-in-law, Katherine D. Moss and Austine W. Moss.

He was preceded in death by four brothers, William Moss, Albert Moss, Harvey Moss and Roger Moss; and a sister-in-law, Genevieve Moss.

The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the church.

Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Joe Parks, Ernest Walker, R.C. Daniel, Gary Burney, Lennie Swanson, Winston Kerley, Tommy Pernell, Mike Roberson, Jerry Napier and James Ayscue.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Raleigh Road Baptist Church, 3892 Raleigh Road, Henderson, NC 27537.

The family wishes to extend a special “Thank You” to his great-nephew, David Moss, who provided much care for Clifton over the past three years.

George L. Hawkins

HENDERSON — George Lee Hawkins, 62, of 445 Mayo St., died Tuesday, June 10, 2014, at Maria Parham Medical Center.

The family is receiving friends at the residence.

James Jordan

MANSON — James Jordan, 83, of 427 Manson Drewry Road, died Sunday, June 8, 2014, at his residence.

A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, June 13, at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Manson by the Rev. Peter White. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Viewing is today, June 12, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. in the chapel of Boyd’s Funeral Services in Warrenton.
