Aubrey Florence III

HENDERSON — Mr. Aubrey “Alton” Florence III, 32, of 1815 Raleigh Road, Henderson, died Friday, Dec. 14, 2012.

A native of Vance County, he was the son of the late Aubrey “Alton” Florence Jr. and Judy Pryor and husband, Glenn Pryor, who survive of Graham. Other survivors include a sister, Audrey Straughan and husband, Chris, of Graham; a sister, Sherrie Milligan and husband, Stan, of Maryland; a step-brother, Chris Pryor of Graham; a son, Aiden Roberson of Henderson; two nephews, Austin and Jeremy; three nieces, Madison, Destiny and Skyler; and grandparents, the Rev. Aubrey Florence and wife, Naomi, of Henderson.

A memorial service will be conducted at Eastside Baptist Church in Henderson today, at 1 p.m., by the Rev. Aubrey Florence, with the family receiving friends from noon-1 p.m.

The family will receive friends at 1025 Hanford Road, Graham.

Roger E. Fuller Sr.

HENDERSON — Roger Earl Fuller Sr., 79, of 1600 Graham Ave., Henderson, died Sunday, Dec. 16, 2012, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Durham.

Born in Vance County on Dec. 5, 1933, he was the son of the late Troy Dalmar Fuller and Oie Kearney Fuller.

Mr. Fuller was a retired employee of Harriet & Henderson Yarns Inc. He was a United States Army veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of Bible Baptist Church, the Adult Sunday School Class, the Biker’s Church of Oxford, American Legion Post #60, and the Epsom Lions Club where he served as a past-president and was a recipient of the Melvin Jones Humanitarian Award.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2012, at 11 a.m., at Bible Baptist Church on Raleigh Road in Henderson, conducted by the Reverends Wilbert Horton, Eddie Mauldin, and Steve Smith. Burial will follow in Liberty Christian Church Cemetery in Epsom.

Surviving are his wife of 49 years, Maybre Davis Fuller; a daughter, Wanda F. Bryant of Medina, Ohio; a son, Roger E. “R.E.” Fuller Jr. and wife, MaryAnn, of Henderson; and five grandchildren, Wendy Berry and husband, Theron, Martin Bryant, Shandi Staples, Samantha Williamson and husband, Mark, and Kristina Francis and husband Josh; and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Earnestine F. Short, Leona F. Bost and Mozel F. Watkins; and five brothers, Wilmo Fuller, Jasper Fuller, Garland Fuller, J.T. Fuller and Raymond Fuller.

The family will receive friends today, from 7-8:30 p.m., at Flowers Funeral Home. All other times, they will be at the home, 1600 Graham Ave., Henderson.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Durwood Daniels, Thomas McDaniel, Crawford Fuller, Mike Williamson, Dalton Williamson, Troy Fuller, J.W. Fuller, Ray Fuller and Johnny Patterson.

Vivian C. Walker

HENDERSON — Vivian Cannington Walker, age 85, a resident of 2000 Ruin Creek Road, died Sunday, Dec. 16, 2012, at her home.

Born on Nov. 29, 1927, in Dodge County, Ga., she was the daughter of the late James Hershel Cannington and Viola Haupt Cannington. She was the co-owner and operator of the former Dad’s Restaurant, which closed in 1995.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2012, at 2 p.m., in the J. M. White Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Johnny Yount. Graveside services will be held Saturday, Dec. 29, 2012, at 11 a.m., in the Sweet Home Cemetery in Eastman, Ga., by the Rev. Jody Yancey.

She is survived by her son-in-law, Chubby L. Thompson of the home; one granddaughter, Joy T. Wrenn of Henderson; and one grandson, Travis W. Thompson of Henderson; and three great-grandchildren, Seth Thompson, Erin Thompson and Cecelia Wrenn.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Gail Walker Thompson.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2012, from 12:30-2 p.m., at J. M. White Funeral Home. At other times they will be at the home at 2000 Ruin Creek Road.

Elmer C. Watson Sr.

HENDERSON — Elmer Clay “E.C.” Watson Sr., age 86, a resident of 70 Shadow Brook Drive, died Saturday, Dec. 15, 2012, at Maria Parham Medical Center.

Born on Jan. 23, 1926, in Avery County, he was the son of the late George Watson and Myrtle Gribble Watson. E.C. was a veteran of the United States Navy, serving during World War II. He was a retired buyer for Roses Stores, Inc., and was an avid golfer, loved to travel, and visited every state except Alaska.

He was a charter member of Central Baptist Church.

A private burial with Military Honors will be held at Sunset Gardens. Memorial services will be held today, at 2 p.m., at Central Baptist Church by the Rev. Bruce Beck.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Ruth Lee Watson of the home; one son, Elmer Clay Watson Jr. and wife, Karen of Henderson; three daughters, Sharon W. Martin and husband, Chuck, of Fairfax, Va., Brenda W. Satterwhite and husband, Mike, of Henderson, and Lisa W. Manning and husband, Greg, of Newland; one sister, Lois W. Edwards of Newland; one brother, Ray Watson of Pineola; seven grandchildren, Sonia Allen, Skip Satterwhite, Zach Satterwhite, Kim Weller, Nick Martin, Brandon Watson and Blake Manning; and seven great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers.

The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the Fellowship Hall of Central Baptist Church. At other times they will be at the home at 70 Shadow Brook Drive in Hunter’s Ridge.

Christine B. Cunningham

STEM — Christine Bullock Cunningham, 87, a longtime resident of Stem, passed away Sunday, Dec. 16, 2012, at Hillside Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Wake Forest.

A native of Granville County, she was the widow of Reginald Cunningham and the daughter of the late William Weldon and Lillian Harris Bullock. She was a member of Union Chapel Baptist Church and was a homemaker.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2012, in the Eakes Funeral Chapel in Creedmoor by the Rev. James Smith. Burial will be in Union Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery in Zebulon.

Surviving are three daughters, Linda Richardson of Stem, Kathy C. Tant of Wake Forest, Teresa C. Williford of Goldsboro; a son, Gary W. Cunningham of Stem; a sister Betty B. English of Laurinburg, four grandchildren and four great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her brother, Bill Bullock.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that you make a contribution to Concord Baptist Church or to South Granville Senior Center.

Visitation will be held from 12:30-2 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2012, prior to the funeral service at Eakes Funeral Home in Creedmoor.

Barbara T. Daniel

OXFORD — Barbara T. Daniel of Oxford died Saturday, Dec. 15, 2012, at Granville Medical Center.

A native of Granville, she was the daughter of the late James W. and Aileen Yancey Thomas and was the widow of Allen T. Daniel. Barbara was a retired bookkeeper with the Granville County Board of Education, a member of Enon Baptist Church and a homemaker.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 17, 2012, at Enon Baptist Church by the Rev. Steve Brown and the Rev. James C. Shelley Jr. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends in the fellowship hall of the church from 10-10:45 a.m. prior to the service.

Surviving is a daughter, Diane D. Lester of Oxford; a son, Allen T. Daniel, Jr. of Rockwell; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Melvin L. Marks

HENDERSON — Melvin Lee Marks, 81, a resident of 7790 Newton Dairy Road, died Monday, Dec. 17, 2012, at Duke University Medical Center.

Born on Dec. 6, 1931, in Vance County, he was the son of the late Jessie “Put” Marks and Berta Cooley Marks. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force and served during the Korean War. Licensed as a minister in the Church of God, he was minister of the former Faith Assembly Church and served as chaplain at the former North Carolina Department of Corrections facility in Gillburg.

A graveside service will be held Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2012, at 11 a.m., at Elmwood Cemetery by Joseph Buchanan.

He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Abbott Marks of the home; and his sister, Peggy Marks Roberson of Henderson.

The family will receive friends after the service on Wednesday.
