Mary M. Boston

DURHAM — Mary Louise Minor Boston, 77, of 1203 Landon Street, died Sunday, Oct. 20, 2013, at Duke Regional Hospital.

Born in Durham County, she was the daughter of the late Thelma Garnes Minor and Earl G. Minor.

Mrs. Boston retired from Northern Vance Senior High School and was a graduate of N.C. Central University. She was a member of St. Joseph’s A.M.E. Church.

Mary was also a member of the Satterfield Davis Club at St. Joseph’s; Future Business Leaders of America; and the NCCU Alpha Kappa Mu Honor Society.

Surviving are her husband, Jesse Boston of the home; two sons, Claude F. Toombs of Newport News, Va., and Bryson Boston of Durham; two siblings to cherish her memory, Yvette Leathers and Earl Minor of Durham; two grandchildren, Brianna Toombs and Claude N. Toombs of Newport News, Va.; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Shelia Minor Barnes.

A memorial service will be conducted at noon Saturday, Nov. 2, 2013, at St. Joseph’s A.M.E. Church, 2521 Fayetteville Street, Durham, with Dr. Ronald L. Owens officiating.

Evelyn E. Baker

HENDERSON — Miss Evelyn Elizabeth Baker, 90, of Senior Citizens Nursing Home, died Monday, Oct. 28, 2013.

Born in Vance County on March 3, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Nathan T. Baker and Bessie Clopton Baker.

She retired from Harriet & Henderson Yarns, was a member of the former North Henderson Pentecostal Holiness Church and attended Crystal River Church of God.

Graveside funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 30, at Sunset Gardens by Rev. Charles Ray Anderson.

Miss Baker is survived by eight nieces, Judy Lewis and Ellen Taylor of Henderson, Patty Ratliff of Tennessee, Kathy Gray, Donna Craven and Teresa Vermillion of Virginia, and Ann Sampson of Oregon; two nephews, Frank Miller of Henderson and Mark Sampson of Oregon; six great-nieces; and several great-great-nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by three sisters, Addie Twisdale, Margaret Sampson and Bessie West; two brothers, Joseph Baker and Thurman Baker; and two nephews, Herbert Miller and Mike Sampson.

The family will receive friends immediately following the service at Sunset Gardens. At other times they will be at the home of Charles and Judy Lewis, 85 West Creek Road, Henderson.

Alfred Paschall

OXFORD — Alfred Paschall, 60, of Universal Healthcare, died Friday, Oct. 25, 2013.

A chapel service will be held at noon today, Oct. 29, in the chapel of Davis-Royster Funeral Service. Interment will follow at Mt. Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family is receiving friends at 375 Bryant Abbott Road, Henderson.

CREEDMOOR — Maude Josephine Goss Stephens, 75, died Sunday, Oct. 27, 2013, at Hock Family Pavilion in Durham.

A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 30, at Eakes Funeral Home by Rev. Wesley Holder. Burial will be in Carolina Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be today, Oct. 29, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Eakes Funeral Home and at other times at the home.

KITTRELL — Robert Taylor, 87, of 2080 South Chavis Road, died Monday, Oct. 28, 2013, at Maria Parham Medical Center.

OXFORD — Robert Lewis “Bob” Tesh died Saturday, Oct. 26, 2013, at Duke Regional Hospital.

A funeral was held at 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 28, in the Gentry-Newell & Vaughan Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Edward Bogie and Dr. Ann Sims.

A graveside service with military honors will be held at 2 p.m. today, Oct. 29, at Hester Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family received friends Monday from 6 to 7 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
