Neleine E. Satterwhite
HENDERSON — Neleine (Nene) E. Satterwhite, age 89, died Saturday, Oct. 26, 2013, after a lengthy period of declining health.
She was a resident of Senior Citizens Nursing Home in Henderson at the time of her death.
Born Feb. 6, 1924, in Vance County, she was the widow of Earl T. Satterwhite Sr. and the daughter of Marvin P. Edwards and Jettie C. Edwards.
Nene grew up in Vance County and graduated from the former Zeb Vance High School. She was a long-time employee of J.P. Taylor Company and a devoted member of the First Baptist Church.
In 1947 she married Earl T. Satterwhite, Sr. They had four children, all of whom survived her: Jacquelyn A. Satterwhite of Cary; Earl T. Satterwhite Jr. and wife, Rene, of Boone’s Mill, Va.; Michael E. Satterwhite and wife, Brenda, of Henderson; and William M. Satterwhite and wife, Angela, of Oxford. She is also survived by her nine grandchildren: Rob Ayscue and wife, Leigh Anne; Ryan Ayscue and wife, Kristie; Joni Buss; Tripp Satterwhite and wife, Jaime; Skip Satterwhite and wife, Danielle; Zach Satterwhite and wife, Susan; Kayla Satterwhite; Mattison Satterwhite; and Lucas Satterwhite; 15 great-grandchildren; her beloved, devoted sisters, Mary Ann E. Brame and Virginia E. Bridges; and her sister-in-law, Rachel P. Edwards.
She was predeceased in death by her husband, Earl T. Satterwhite Sr.; her parents, Marvin P. Edwards and Jettie C. Edwards; her brothers, M.P. Edwards Jr. and Willie Joe Edwards; and her great-grandson, Robert B. Ayscue, III.
Nene was much loved by her immediate and extended family and was a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She will be remembered as a selfless individual who worked tirelessly to improve the quality of life for her family, friends and other loved ones.
After a private graveside burial at Sunset Gardens, a memorial service will be held Monday, Oct. 28, at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Henderson, conducted by Dr. Ronald Cava. The family will greet friends in the fellowship hall after the service. At other times, the family will be at the home of Mike and Brenda Satterwhite, 1621 Peace Street, Henderson.
The family extends their appreciation to her caregivers, Shirley Frazier, Patricia Hargrove and Gail Hawkins, and to the staff of Senior Citizens Nursing Home.

Betty S. Lane
AXTELL — Betty Short Lane, 74, of the Axtell community died Friday, Oct. 25, 2013, at her residence.
She was a native of Warren County and was preceded in death by her parents, George Washington Short and Sally King Short, and her husband, William Earl Lane.
Rev. Frank Sossamon will conduct funeral services at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 28, in Brown’s Baptist Church.
Mrs. Lane was a member of Brown’s Baptist Church.
She is survived by her three children, Donna Lane Shields of Warrenton, George (Bro) Lane of Oxford and Betty Lane Dickerson of Youngsville; her three sisters, Joan Short Mustian of Norlina, Jean Short Bowen of Norlina and June Short Marshburn of Kansas City, Mo.; and five grandchildren, William B. Shields, III, Carrie Nichole Lane, Anna Danielle Lane, Camden L. Dickerson and Hannah Scott Dickerson.
The family will receive friends Monday Oct. 28, at Brown’s Baptist Church following the funeral service.
