Helen C. Norman

LOUISBURG — Helen Catlett Norman, 85, of Franklin Oaks Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, a former resident of South Cooper Drive in Henderson, died Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2013.

Born on Jan. 11, 1928, in Vance County, she was the daughter of the late Robert S. Catlett and Lula Whitby Catlett.

She was a member of Central Baptist Church, where she was a former member of the senior Sunday school class and celebration choir.

She is survived by one daughter, Dona Roberson Smith and husband Danny of Louisburg; one son, Archie Samuel Roberson of Kittrell; one brother, Albert Catlett and wife Betsy of Henderson; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Elizabeth “Libby” Roberson Van-Zandt.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in the J.M. White Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Bill Haley. Burial will follow in Sunset Gardens.

The family will receive friends Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m. prior to the service at J.M. White Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation, 1305 Navaho Drive, Suite 101, Raleigh, NC 27609.

Katie D. Shearin

MACON — Katie Laine Denton Shearin, 96, died Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2013, at Duke University Medical Center.

She was a Franklin County native born to the late John B. and Flonnie Radford Denton.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Reubin I. Shearin.

Mrs. Shearin was a longtime member of Macon Baptist Church, was retired from Carolina Sportswear and was a caring homemaker that loved cooking for others.

She is survived by her daughters, Carolyn S. Beddingfield and husband J.W. of Macon and Edith S. Shearin and husband H.B. of Louisburg; two sisters, Mary Gupton of Louisburg and Dora Roble of Pennsylvania; her brother, J.B. Denton of Louisburg; her four grandchildren, Dean Shearin and wife Sandra of Louisburg, Henry Shearin of Louisburg, April Beddingfield of Apex and Kari Neal and husband Ronald of Henderson; and her eight great-grandchildren, Branden Shearin, Dustin Shearin, Noah Shearin, Landon Shearin, Kailyn Overby, Kara Overby, Laniey Neal and John Neal.

Rev. Rob Evans will conduct funeral services at noon today, Oct. 25, at Macon Baptist Church, with burial to follow in Greenwood Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Roy Pat Robertson, Franklin Rivers, Bob Rideout, Ronnie Riggan, Kent Gupton and James Harold Robertson. Honorary pallbearers will be Gilbert Hilliard and M.C. Clary.

Memorials may be made to the Macon Baptist Church, 159 Church Street, Macon, NC 27551, or to the Greenwood Cemetery Fund, c/o Judy Leonard, 284 Oakville Road, Macon, NC 27551.

The family will receive friends prior to the service on Friday from 11 a.m. to noon at Macon Baptist Church and at other times at the residence of J.W. and Carolyn Beddingfield.

DURHAM — James Richard Hill, 62, of 807 South Duke Street, Apt. 925, died Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2013, at his residence.

A chapel service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26, in the chapel of Davis-Royster Funeral Service.

HENDERSON — Joseph Levon “Joe” Lewis Sr., 66, of 97 Vincent Hoyle Road, died Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2013.

A funeral will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 27, at South Henderson Pentecostal Holiness Church by Rev. Frank Sossamon. Burial will follow in Sunset Gardens.

The family will receive friends prior to the service on Sunday from 1:30 to 3 p.m. at the church.
