Elizabeth T. Borden

HENDERSON — Mrs. Elizabeth Corbitt Toepleman Borden, 92, passed away at her home on Oct. 15, 2013, after a period of declining health.

Born in Henderson on Aug. 9, 1921, she was the daughter of Frederick Leroy Toepleman and Elizabeth Corbitt Toepleman. She was the granddaughter of Richard J. Corbitt, founder and principal owner of The Corbitt Company, and Jennie Shaw Corbitt, who published “Miss Jennie’s Cookbook” and operated The Little Hotel.

She attended local schools in her early years, graduated from Saint Catherine’s School in Richmond, Va., in 1939, Saint Mary’s Junior College in Raleigh in 1941 and Hollins University in Roanoke, Va., in 1943.

She was a former member and president of the Maria Parham Hospital Guild; former member of the N.C. Museum of Art Foundation Board; a former and long time docent at the N.C. Museum of Art; a former board member of the Vance County Arts Council; former board member of Friends of the Library; and a member of the Henderson Garden Club, ALMA Club, Tuesday Club and The National Society of Colonial Dames of America.

She was a longtime member of The Church of The Holy Innocents, where she served as a member of the Vestry, president of Episcopal Churchwomen and chairman of the Alter Guild.

She enjoyed sailing, golf, skiing, gardening and participated in all these activities for many years.

Mrs. Borden is survived by her husband of 68 years, Albert G. Borden; her daughters, Emily Borden Ragsdale of Jamestown and Wilmington, Mary Borden Currin and husband Benjamin McNinch Currin of Raleigh; a son, John Crain Borden and wife Monica Patchell Borden of Raleigh; four grandchildren, Thomas Albert Ragsdale, Katharine Coffin Ragsdale, Elizabeth Currin Houston and husband Michael and Ellen Corbitt Currin; and her devoted caregivers, Susie Fields, Ruby Venable, Elizabeth Whitley, Cherita Hargrove, Charlotte Harris, Angie Ellington and Pam Evans.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, Oct. 18, at The Church of The Holy Innocents by Rev. Donald A. Lowery, with reception following in the Parish Hall.

At other times, the family will receive friends at the home, 1930 Parker Lane.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to The Church of The Holy Innocents, 210 South Chestnut Street, Henderson, NC 27536, or to Community Home Care and Hospice, 152 Zeb Robinson Road, Henderson, NC 27537.

Brenda B. Adcock

HENDERSON — Brenda Bolton Adcock, 52, of 652 Aycock Road, died Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2013, at Maria Parham Medical Center.

Born in Warren County on Jan. 10, 1961, she was the daughter of Geneva Kimbrough Williamson of Henderson and the late Wright Bolton Jr.

She was a medically retired license specialist for the Vance County School System and was a member of Cary Baptist Church.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at Cary Baptist Church by Dr. Al James.

In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband, Alan Grey Adcock Sr. of the home; two sons, Alan Grey Adcock Jr. and wife Romaine and Micheal Wayne Adcock Sr. and fiancee Caroline Hope of Henderson; five grandchildren, Micheal Wayne Adcock Jr., Thomas Joseph Adcock, Austin Grey Adcock, Aidan Dakota Adcock and Robert Earl Webb; one sister, Shelia B. Orr of Henderson; and four brothers, Jimmy Bolton III of Kalamazoo, Mich., Thomas Jackson Bolton, William Lee Bolton and Robert “Butch” Bolton, all of Henderson.

The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the fellowship hall of Cary Baptist Church.

HENDERSON — Walter J. Perry Jr., 75, of 711 Highland Ave., died Sunday, Oct. 13, 2013, at Maria Parham Medical Center.

A funeral will be held at noon Friday, Oct. 18, at Progressive Faith Missionary Baptist Church by Rev. Richard Batts. Interment will follow in Blacknall Cemetery.

Viewing will be today, Oct. 17, from 2 to 7 p.m. at E.C. Terry’s Funeral Service.
