Salbert A. Pearce

HENDERSON — Salbert Alton “Lou” Pearce, 82, of 718 Cedarwood Terrace, Henderson, died Monday, June 30, 2014, at Duke University Hospital in Durham.

Born in Vance County, he was the son of the late Roy Samford and Florence Simmons Pearce.

Mr. Pearce was the former owner and operator of Friendly Barber Shop. He was a United States Army veteran. He was a member of New Life Baptist Church, the Henderson Masonic Lodge No. 229 AF & AM, the Henderson Shrine Club and the Amran Shrine Temple.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 3, 2014, at 2 p.m. at New Life Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Mike Wilkes and the Rev. Frank Sossamon. Burial will follow in Sunset Gardens.

Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Edna Davidson Pearce; two daughters, Gail P. Weldon and husband Dean of Emerald Isle and Jane P. Pernell and husband Mike of Henderson; a brother, Claude R. “Skeeter” Pearce Sr. of Henderson; three grandchildren, Caitlen Roberson, Alyssa Pernell and Jamie Weldon Stewart and husband Garth; and four great-grandchildren, Hunter Phillips, Payton Phillips, Luke Stewart and Jakson Stewart.

He was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Shannon Weldon Phillips and Lauren Roberson; two sisters, Florine Pearce and Margaret Kearney; and three brothers, Rudolf Pearce, Edward Pearce and Clyde Pearce.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Flowers Funeral Home. All other times, they will be the home of Jane and Mike Pernell, 1233 Franklin Lane, Henderson.

Serving as active pallbearers will be Gene Fisher, Noel Faulkner, Steve Hughes, Ray Liles, Garth Stewart, James Phillips, Marty Robinson and Stacey Parham.

Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to New Life Baptist Church, P.O. Box 438, Henderson, NC 27536.

John D. Monroe

MANSON — John Duke Monroe, 79, of 1006 N. Piney Grove Road, died Saturday, June 28, 2014, at Maria Parham Medical Center.

He was born Nov. 23, 1964, in Bradenton, Florida. He was educated in Tampa, Florida, schools and later received an honorable discharge from the U.S. Navy.

He moved to Washington, D.C., in 1960 and worked with the D.C. Recorder of Deeds. He worked for the U.S. Defense Intelligence Agency from 1970 until retirement.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Guiding Star United Holy Church.

A funeral service will be held at noon Thursday, July 3, at Guiding Star United Holy Church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Viewing will be from noon to 6 p.m. today, July 2, in the chapel of Davis-Royster Funeral service and at the church prior to the service.

Survivors include his wife, Annie Williams Monroe; a son, Carlton Monroe (Andrea) of Pennsylvania; a daughter, Bridgette Seafus of West Virginia; a grandson, Jared Seafus; sister, Betty Wheeler, a mother-in-law, Marie Hazzard; along with other relatives.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church and other times at the residence.

Clarence A. Wilkins

HENDERSON — Clarence Anthony Wilkins, 50, son of the late Diane Wilkins and Clarence Evans Jr., departed his life on June 28, 2014.

Clarence was born Nov. 12, 1963, in Vance County.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Clara Evans.

He was survived by his son, Anthony La’Shaw Burwell; four brothers; and seven sisters.

Funeral arrangements will be at Young Memorial in Greystone at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 3.

The family will receive friends at the home of his sister, Carolyn Wilkins Wilkerson, of 280 Crowder Lane, Henderson NC 27537.

 

Carolyn Gregory

HENDERSON — Carolyn Gregory, 52, of 127 S. Elizabeth St., died Sunday, June 29, 2014, at Maria Parham Medical Center.

A funeral will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, July 3, at Oak Level United Church of Christ. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Viewing will be from noon to 6 p.m. today, July 2, in the chapel of Davis-Royster Funeral Service and at the church one hour prior to the service.

The family is receiving friends at the residence.

HENDERSON — Annie Belle Clark Henderson, 59, of 500 J.P. Taylor Road, died Monday, June 30, 2014, at Duke Regional Hospital in Durham.

OXFORD — Conrad Francis Roberts, 94, of Universal Healthcare in Oxford, died Monday, June 30, 2014.
