Sherman C. Tabon
KENBRIDGE, Va. — Sherman Charles Tabon, 62, passed away Friday, Aug. 16, 2013, at his residence, after a lengthy battle with cancer.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Matthew’s Baptist Church, 219 North Broad Street.
He was raised in Kenbridge, Va., by his father and mother, James and Alease Ragsdale Tabon.
He received his education in the public schools of Lunenburg County, Va. At an early age he was baptized and joined St. Matthew’s Baptist Church, where he worked and served as an usher and member until his death.
Sherman was married to Debra Sydnor and to this union they were blessed with two daughters.
Before his return to his roots in Kenbridge, he spent his adult life in Boston, Mass., and Henderson, N.C.
Sherman spent many years as a truck driver and glass technician before his health began to decline. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, who referred to him as Pop-E.
Sherman was preceded in death by his father James Tabon and his wife of 25 years, Debra Tabon.
He is survived by his two daughters, Yolanda Haynes and Joy Tabon; a son, Sherman Charles Tabon Jr.; and four grandchildren, Shayla, Zachary, KayLynn and Laniya.
Also left to cherish his memory are his mother, Alease Tabon; brother, Earl Tabon (Corinne); sister, Betty Walker; mother-in-law, Pattie S. Sydnor; and two sisters-in-law, Joy Lee (Roger) and Shelly Edmonds (Clarence).
Sherman also leaves behind a dear friend, Rachel Hendricks, who cared for him greatly during his illness, along with other relatives and friends.

OXFORD — J’awn Mekhi Terry, 18 weeks, of 214 Alexander Ave., died Monday, Aug. 19, 2013, at Granville Medical Center.
A memorial service will be held at noon Friday, Aug. 23, 2013, in the Betts & Son Funeral Home Chapel.
There will be no public viewing.

NORLINA — Charles Arthur Wagstaff Sr., 83, died Monday, Aug. 19, 2013.
A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 24, 2013, at New Life Baptist Church with burial to follow in Sunset Gardens in Henderson.
The family will receive friends on Friday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Blaylock Funeral Home.
