Rosa Branch

MT. AIRY — Mrs. Rosa Branch, age 98, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2013.

Rosa was born May 13, 1914, to Thomas and Daisy Smart Johnson in Surry County. She was an active member of Blues Grove Baptist Church before her declining health and loved her church family with all her heart.

In addition to her parents, Rosa was preceded in death by her husband, Ellis Branch; two brothers, Lacy and Claude Johnson; two sisters, Allie Johnson Hall and Addie Johnson King; as well as four half-sisters. Surviving are daughters and sons-in-law, Nancy and James Marion and Susan and Jerry Burcham; and a son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Brenda Branch. Rosa had six grandchildren: Tammy Perry, Julie Teague, Chad Hodges, Jennifer Stone, Lori Gray and Delane Branch, as well as nine great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.

Mrs. Branch loved all her children, grandchildren and family more than life itself. She will be greatly missed by all her family and those who were a part of her life.

The family will receive friends tonight, from 6-8 p.m., at Moody Funeral Home and funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, Jan. 24, 2013, at 2 p.m., also at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Skyline Memory Gardens.

The family would like to express their appreciation to Mountain Valley Hospice, especially Tina Leonard and Rosa Dizon, for the wonderful care and love they have shown towards Mrs. Branch.

Nellie P. Dickerson

OXFORD — Nellie Daniel Parrott Dickerson, age 92, died Monday, Jan. 21, 2013, at Franklin Oakes Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Louisburg.

A native of Granville County, she was the wife of Eldridge Dickerson and the daughter of the late Jim and Mollie Boyd Daniel. Nellie was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church and a former in-home care provider.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Jan., 24, 2013, at Gentry-Newell & Vaughan Chapel by the Rev. Jason Thornton. Burial will follow at Bethel United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:30-2 p.m. at the funeral home prior to the service.

Surviving are a son, Eldridge Gary Dickerson of Oxford; a daughter, Nancy P. Dean (Rick) of Kinston; a sister, Helen Currin of Oxford; grandchildren, Kristi Walsh and Richard Dean Jr.; and great-grandchildren, Tyler and Haley. Nellie was preceded in death by her first husband, Titus Parrott; a sister, Lucy Parrott; and brothers, Willie Daniel and Walter Daniel.

Doris Burnett

NORLINA — Doris Burnett, 62, of 119 Bynums Place in Norlina, died Thursday, Jan. 17, 2013, at her residence.

Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, Jan. 24, 2013, at 11 a.m., at Freedom Life Church of God in Henderson. Pastor Jeff Prewer will officiate and burial will follow at United Solid Rock Memorial Gardens in Norlina.

Survivors include: her husband, Johnny Burnett of the home; one son, Melvin Phillips Jr.; and one grandson.

The family will receive relatives and friends today, 7-8 p.m., at Boyd’s Funeral Service in Warrenton.

Gerald T. Clifton

WARRENTON — Gerald Thomas Clifton, 73, died Monday, Jan. 21, 2013, at his residence.

He was a Sampson County native born to the late Bernice Clayton and Edna Irene Highsmith Clifton. He was employed with Amerigas for over 25 years, was a member of the Warrenton Baptist Church where he was in the Allen Bible Class, and was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force.

The Rev. Tom Bodkin will conduct memorial services today, at 2 p.m., at Warrenton Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Theresa Jernigan Clifton; his daughters, Stephanie C. Lucus of Middlebrook, Va., and Connie C. Huss of Cary; his siblings, Sarah Rogers of Gordansville, Va., John Bernice Clifton of’ El Paso, Texas, Imogene Baggett and Francis Clifton both of Faison; and his five grandchildren.

Lizzie P. Daye

HENDERSON — Lizzie Belle Person Dave, 96, of 142 Summerfield Lane, Henderson, died Saturday, Jan. 19, 2013, at her residence.

She was born in Vance County and the daughter of the late Plummer and Frances Crudup Person.

She was educated in the Vance County Public School and joined Shiloh Baptist Church in Kittrell at an early age.

Funeral services will be Friday, Jan. 25, 2013, at 1 p.m., at Shiloh Baptist Church in Kittrell by the Rev. Spencer Davis. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery.

Survivors include: two daughters, Susie B. McKnight of New Jersey and Marie Kearney Kearney of the home; one sister, Martha Hunter of Durham; 14 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and 19 great-great-grandchildren.

Family receiving friends at the resident, body will be on view at the funeral home Friday, Jan. 25, 2013, from 11 a.m.-5:30 p.m. and at the church one hour before the service.

Lee J. Harris

OXFORD — Lee J. Harris, 88, of Garner, died, Monday, Jan. 21, 2013, at Rex Hospital. A native of Granville County, he was the son of the late Harvey Reddick and Gertie Harris Harris. Lee was a member of Gray Rock United Methodist Church, a United States Army veteran and an avid golfer.

Funeral services will be conducted Friday, Jan. 25, 2013, at 2 p.m., at Gray Rock United Methodist Church by Reverend Jason Thornton. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1-2 p.m. prior to the service in the church fellowship hall of the church.

Surviving is his wife of 62 years Nette D. Harris; a son, B. Douglas Harris of Garner; a brother, Doug Harris of Raleigh; and a sister Anna H. Bunce of Kittrell. He was preceded in death by a brother, Thurman Harris and a sister, Louise Holt.

Mary Pressley

NORLINA — Mary Pressley, 77, of 478 Manson-Axtell Road in Norlina, died Monday, Jan. 21, 2013, at her residence.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete at this time but will be later announced by Boyd’s Funeral Services in Warrenton.


Peter J. Wynne Jr.

OXFORD — Peter Jefferson Wynne Jr., 84, a lifetime resident of Granville County, died Tuesday, Jan., 22, 2013, at Granville Medical Center.

A native of Granville County, he was the son of the late Peter Jefferson and Belma Perkinson Wynne. He was a member of Mt. Creek Baptist Church and retired as a health care technician from Murdoch Center.

Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, Jan, 24, 2013, at 2 p.m., in the Eakes Funeral Chapel in Oxford by the Rev. Bruce Brooks and the Rev. Johnny Richards. Burial will be in Mt. Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.

Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Lila Frazier Wynne of the home; twin daughters, Deborah Wynne Lunsford and Kimberly Wynne Dean, both of Oxford; three granddaughters; one grandson; and one great-granddaughter. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Lorene W. Montague and Ethel W. Howard; and two brothers, Thomas Wynne and Herbert Wynne.

Visitation will today, from 7-8:30 p.m., in the Eakes Funeral Home in Oxford and other times at 2751 Hallie Burnette Road, Oxford.
