James H. Brummitt

HENDERSON — James H. “Jimmy” Brummitt, a resident of 1756 Bearpond Road, Henderson, died Friday, Jan. 18, 2013, at Rex Hospital in Raleigh.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by J. M. White Funeral Home.


Doris Burnett

NORLINA — Doris Burnett, 62, of 119 Bynums Place in Norlina, died Thursday, Jan. 17, 2013, at her residence.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete at this time but will be announced later by Boyd’s Funeral Services in Warrenton.

Ronald Hargrove

HENDERSON — Ronald Hargrove, 57, of 434 Whitten Ave., Henderson, died Jan. 13, 2013, at Duke University Hospital.

Born in Vance County, he was the son of the late Robert and Mary Hayes Hargrove.

He attended Vance County Public Schools and graduated from Vance Senior High School. He was employed at former Harriet & Henderson Yarn Company for many years, also worked at the Mop Company and Roses warehouse.

Funeral services will be conducted today, at 1 p.m., at Morning Star United Holy Church by Elder Shirley Pierce. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Survivors include: three sisters, Carolyn Hargrove of the home, Sandra Hargrove of Henderson and Gloria Taylor of Middleburg; and four brothers, Robert Hargrove of the home, and Willie Hargrove, Jackie Leon Hargrove and Preston Hargrove, all of Henderson.

The family is receiving friends at the resident. The body was on view at the funeral home Friday, Jan. 18, 2013, from 11 a.m.-5 p.m., and will be so again at the church one hour before the service.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Davis-Royster Funeral Service.

Hugh R. Hoyle

HENDERSON — Hugh Roberson Hoyle, 86, a resident of 26 Margie Lane (off of Spring Valley Lake Road) in Henderson, died Friday, Jan. 18, 2013, at Maria Parham Medical Center in Henderson.

Geneva Hymon

WARRENTON — Geneva Hymon, 73, of 466 Beamon Hunt Road in Warrenton, died Friday, Jan. 18, 2013, at Halifax Regional Medical Center in Roanoke Rapids.

Robert L. Lloyd

OXFORD — Robert Lee Lloyd, 80, died Friday, Jan. 18, 2013, at UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill.

Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by Gentry-Newell & Vaughan Funeral Home.


James E. Long

BUTNER — James Edward Long, 71, a resident of 605 29th St., Butner, died Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2013, at Universal Healthcare in Oxford.

He was the son of the late Riston Long and Odessa Evans Long. He was a retired supervisor of supplies with Metro Subway Systems in Baltimore, Md. He was a United States Marine veteran and a member of Olive Grove Baptist Church.

He is survived by two daughters, Zsa Zsa Johnson of Durham and Michelle Long of Lanham, Md.; one brother, the Rev. Robert R. Long of Butner; two grandchildren; and one great grandchild.

Funeral services will be conducted Monday, Jan. 21, 2013, at 11 a.m., at Wright Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Homer Brown. Burial will be in the Olive Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive visitors one hour prior to services at the church.

A viewing will take place Sunday, Jan. 20, 2013, from 11 a.m.-5 p.m., at Wright Funeral Home.


Alexander C. McAuslan

WARRENTON — Alexander Cubie McAuslan, 93, died Friday, Jan. 18, 2013.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James Lewis and Christina Cubie McAuslan; two sisters; one brother; and his first wife, Jessie Pridgen McAuslan.

McAuslan was a member of Zion United Methodist Church and the American Legion. He was a U.S. Navy veteran who, as a navy pilot, received the Distinguished Flying Cross. He was a retired school teacher and principal in the Norfolk City School System.

The Rev. Bob Rose and the Rev. Jerry Barbee will conduct funeral services Sunday, Jan. 20, 2013, at 3 p.m., at Zion United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Warren Dale Cemetery in Norlina.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret Comer McAuslan; two daughters: Mary A. Waschak of Norlina and Ellen Pitt of Virginia Beach, Va.; a son: James Lewis McAuslan of Norlina; six grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends today, from 7-8:30 p.m., at Blaylock Funeral Home.

OXFORD — Mary Robinson, 76, a resident of 133 Webb Place, Oxford, died Thursday, Jan. 17, 2013, at Maria Parham Medical Center in Henderson.

George Sharps

NORLINA — George Sharps, 72, of 302 Duke Drive, Apt. 103 in Norlina, died Friday, Jan. 18, 2013, at Maria Parham Medical Center in Henderson.

William T. Tuck

FRANKLINTON — William Thomas Tuck, 50, died Sunday, Jan. 13, 2013, at Franklin Regional Hospital in Louisburg.

Son of the late McKinley and Adell Hunt Tuck, he was born in Granville County. At an early age, he joined Baptist Grove Baptist Church in Bullock. He attended Granville County Schools and later graduated Vance-Granville Community College having studied auto mechanics.

Survivors include his wife, Vivian Teasley Tuck of the home; one daughter, Cheryl Evans of Durham; eight-grandchildren, two brothers, McKinley Tuck, of Bridgeport, Conn., and David Tuck of Oxford; six sisters, Mary Johnson, Patricia Carroll, Pauline Williams, Alice Thorpe, Jackie Durham and Lisa Tuck.

Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, Jan. 20, 2013, at 2 p.m., at Kinches Chapel Church, Franklinton, with the Rev. Willie Nixon officiating and interment in the church cemetery.

The family will be at 118 Peach St., Franklinton, and viewing will be today at E.C. Terry’s Funeral Chapel, Henderson, from 2-7 p.m.

Floralbearers will be nieces and pallbearers will be nephews.

Betty L. Wallace

NEW BERN — Betty Gafford Leonard Wallace, 81, died Friday, Jan. 18, 2013.

A native of Petersburg and South Hill, Va., she was the daughter of the late Ida Peterson Gafford and Clyde John Gafford. She was of the Methodist faith, and was retired from Pitt Memorial/Vidant Medical Center in the Medical Records Department. Following retirement, she spent her time in the company of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
