Anita L. Crawford

ELKTON, Md — Anita L. (Harris) Crawford, age 69, passed from this world peacefully on March 29, 2014, in Union Hospital of Cecil County, with her loving family by her side.

Her greatest joys were being a loving wife, mom and grandmom, as well as a caretaker to any little animal that ever found its way to her. She was the most loving and giving person anyone could have ever met. While we will miss Mom so greatly here on Earth, we know she is strong and whole again with her Lord in Heaven!

Anita was born in Henderson, on April 12, 1944, the daughter of the late Arnom H. Harris Sr. and Hazel (Williamson) Harris. She grew up in Henderson, where she was a member of First Baptist Church. After graduation from Henderson High School in 1962, she earned an associate degree in 1964 from Louisburg College. Employment in a civilian capacity with the U.S. Air Force took Anita to Alexandria, Va., in 1968, where she worked in the Pentagon and met her future husband, Major Noel Crawford Sr., who was serving with the U.S. Army. Anita and Noel were married on Feb. 16, 1973, in Springfield, Va. Over the next 13 years, Anita, Noel and their children lived in several locations throughout the United States in response to Noel’s U.S. Military assignments, finally settling in Elkton, Md. in December, 1986.

Anita leaves behind her husband of 41 years, Noel Crawford Sr.; three children, daughter Holly Ulmer and husband George, son Noel Crawford Jr. and daughter Mary Crawford; and three grandsons, Owen, Avery and Isaac Ulmer, all residing in Elkton, Md. Anita is also survived by her brother, Arnom H. Harris Jr. and wife Julia Harris of Charlottesville, Va.; and an extended family of nieces and nephews.

In honoring her wishes, all services celebrating her life will be private. The family also requests that memorial contributions be made in Anita’s name to The Humane Society of the United States, Union Hospital of Cecil County and Amedisys Hospice of Greater Chesapeake, c/o R.T. Foard Funeral Home, P.A., 259 E. Main St., Elkton, MD 21921.
