Odell Russell

HENDERSON — Funeral services were held in Richmond, Va., on Friday, Nov. 22, 2013, for Deacon Odell Russell, who died last week after a long period of illness.

He was a native of Townsville (the Woodworth community) and was the son of the late Matthew and Carrie Jones Russell.

He leaves to cherish his memories a loving and devoted wife, Emily Clarke Russell and a stepdaughter, Robin McCormick, both of Richmond, Va.; his four children, Paula Russell Evans, Robin Russell and local newspaper columnist Rick Russell, all of Henderson, and Matthew Russell of Fayetteville; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Glenn Daniel High

LITTLETON — Glenn Daniel High, born June 13, 1931, to the late Joseph Henry High and the late Bessie Clary High, passed away Nov. 24, 2013, with his family and friends at his side.

Mr. High was a U.S. Army, Korean War veteran and co-owner and operator of High and High Inc. of Vaughan.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Devella Wray High; his son, Robert Henry High; daughter-in-law Melissa Tucker High; his daughter, Mary Catherine High-Poole; son-in-law David Randall Poole; and his two grandchildren, Allison Tucker High and Bryce Christian Poole, who have always been the “apples of Papa’s eyes.”

He is also survived by his sisters and brothers: Doris Lee, Mesa Ann Phillips, Joseph M. “Pete” High and Robert M. “Buddy” High.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Marie Lumsden; and brothers Warren High, Lloyd High, Elton High and Adkins High.

He is and always will be deeply loved and missed by his wife and family. We could not have asked for a better husband, father, father-in law and grandfather.

The family will receive friends Friday, Nov. 29, 2013, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Wrenn Clarke & Hagan Funeral and Cremation Service, 1015 West 5th St. Roanoke Rapids, and at other times at the residence.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, Nov. 30, 2013, at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Wrenn Clarke & Hagan Funeral and Cremation Service, with Rev. Todd Stout officiating. Interment will follow in Cedarwood Cemetery, Roanoke Rapids.

OXFORD — Margaret Peace Braswell, 91, of 119 Coventry Drive, died Thursday, Nov. 21, 2013, at her home.

A funeral was held at 3 p.m. Monday, Nov. 25, at Ilong Baptist Church. Burial was in the church cemetery.

OXFORD — Delmar Q. Burrus, 51, of 205 Howard Drive, died Tuesday, Nov. 19, 2013, at Duke University Medical Center.

A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. today, Nov. 27, at Mountain Spring Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Viewing was held on Tuesday, Nov. 26, at Betts & Son Funeral Home.
