Morris R. Jeffreys

HENDERSON — Morris Raye Jeffreys, 52, of 723 Water St., Henderson, died Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2013, at his residence.

He was born in Vance County on Oct. 17, 1960, to the late Hermie Anderson Jeffreys and the late Annie Beatrice Harris Jeffreys.

He attended Vance County Public Schools.

Funeral services will be held Friday, March 8, 2013, at noon, in the chapel of Davis-Royster Funeral Service.

A viewing will take place today, from noon-6 p.m., at the funeral home. The family is receiving friends at the residence.

Edna F. Murray

GREENSBORO — Edna Freeman Murray, 85, a former resident of Waddill Street in Henderson, died Monday, March 4, 2013, at Heritage Greens in Greensboro.

Born on July 2, 1927, in Vance County, she was the daughter of the late Lucius Joseph Freeman and Vashti Woodlief Freeman. She married Ralph Murray in February of 1967. She was a graduate of Woman’s College of Greensboro, a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Henderson, and a retired supervisor for the former Carolina Power and Light Company.

Funeral services will be held Friday, March 8, 2013, at 2 p.m., in the J.M. White Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Keith Benze. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery in Oxford.

She is survived by her sister, Josephine “Jo” F. Nichols of Greensboro; and her brother, Lucius Joseph Freeman Jr. of Hartwell, Ga.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband.

The family will receive friends Friday, March 8, 2013, from 12:30-2 p.m., at J.M. White Funeral Home.

Serving as active pall bearers will be Dan Nichols, Joe Dunn, Matthew Dunn, Mike Rainey, John Rainey, Gary Freeman, and William L. Stainback.

Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation, 400 Oberlin Road, Suite 208, Raleigh, N.C. 27605.

Arrangements are by J.M. White Funeral Home.


Reginald K. Peace

OXFORD — Reginald K. Peace, 44, a resident of 135 Webb Place, Oxford, died Sunday, March 3, 2013, at Hock Family Pavilion in Durham.

He was a graduate of J.F. Webb High School and a member of Huntsville Baptist Church.

Survivors include: his parents, John and Gloria Peace; one brother, Frederick Thomas Peace; one sister, Arlinda P. Braswell.

Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, March 9, 2013, at 2 p.m., in the Betts & Son Funeral Home Chapel with a eulogy delivered by the Rev. Gerald Latta. Interment will follow in the South Granville Memorial Garden Cemetery.

A viewing will take place Friday, March 8, 2013, from 11 a.m.-6 p.m., at the funeral home.

The family will receive friends at 1573 Brook Drive, Creedmoor.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to Hock Family Pavilion, 4023 North Roxboro Street, Durham, NC 27704.

Funeral services have been entrusted to Betts & Son Funeral Home in Oxford.

WARRENTON — Mamie Solomon, 92, of Warrenton, died Tuesday, March 5, 2013, at Maria Parham Medical Center in Henderson.

OXFORD — Percy Thorne, 72, a resident of 4142 Forest Court, Oxford, died Tuesday, March 5, 2013, at his residence.
