Barbara D. Butler
MACON — Barbara Douglas Butler, 72, of Macon, died Friday, Jan. 4, 2013, at her daughter’s home in Henderson.
Born in Greensboro, she was the daughter of the late Bennie Douglas and Nancy Rumley Douglas. She was also preceded in death by her husband, David H. Butler.
Mrs. Butler was a member of Gardner’s Baptist Church where she was involved in numerous church activities which included a children’s Sunday School teacher and largely involved with the music ministry. She was employed with Southern Laundry in Henderson for 15 years.
Surviving Mrs. Butler are two daughters; Teresa B. Kasey and husband, the Rev. Brent Kasey of Henderson, and Tina B. Krause, and husband, Derek Krause, of Wilkesboro; two brothers, David Douglas Sr. of Greensboro and Tom Douglas, of Oakland, Calif.; grandchildren, Britney K. Sanders, Meredith K. Vest and Katie Kasey, Kassey, Benjamin and Noah Krause; and a great-grandson, Titus Nathaniel Sanders. The family is expecting the birth of her second great-grandchild, Creed Alton Vest, in two weeks.
Funeral services will be held, Monday, Jan. 7, 2013, at Gardner’s Baptist Church at noon, by the Rev. Blake Jackson. The family will receive friends at 11 a.m., at the church. On Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2013, at 1 p.m., a second service will be held at Shannon Hills Bible Chapel, 900 West Vandalia Road, Greensboro, by the Rev. Mark Shelley. The family will receive friends from noon-1 p.m. at the church. Burial will follow at Guilford Memorial Park, in Greensboro.

Lizzie R. Caraway
DELCO — Lizzie Roberson Caraway, age 90, a resident of 98 Dew Oil Plant Road, and a former resident of Kelly Road in Henderson, died Friday, Jan. 4, 2013, at New Hanover Medical Center in Wilmington.
Born in Vance County on Jan. 14, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Hunter J. Roberson and Julia Ross Roberson.
She was baptized in the Episcopal Church, and was retired from the former Southern Quilting Co.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2013, at 11 a.m., in the J. M. White Funeral Home Chapel by the Revs. Sam Brewer, Aubrey Florence and George Williams. Burial will follow in Sunset Gardens.
She is survived by one daughter, Mary C. Sanford and husband, Johnny, of Henderson; two sons, Bobby Caraway of Port Orange, Fla., and the Rev. Hubert Titus Caraway Jr. and wife, Edith, of Delco; five grandchildren, Carrie, Tre’, Eli, John and Michael; and four great-grandchildren, Amanda, Hollie, Allen and Cullen; two sisters, Barbara Cummings of Strasburg, Va., and Gladys Burkett of Independence, Mo.; two brothers, Melvin Roberson of Henderson and Howard Roberson of Princeville. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Hubert Titus Caraway Sr., and one son, David Allen Caraway; three sisters, Doris Williamson, Nellie Weaver and Ellen Roberson; and five brothers, Clarence Roberson, Willard Roberson, James Roberson, Grover “Billy” Roberson and W. H. Roberson.
The family will receive friends Monday night, Jan. 7, 2013, from 7-8:30 p.m., at J. M. White Funeral Home. At other times they will be at the home of Mary and Johnny Sanford, 1151 Walter Bowen Road in the Epsom Community.
Serving as active pall bearers will be Hubert Titus Caraway III, Samuel Elijah Caraway, John Patrick Sanford, Michael Steven Sanford, Tommy Roberson and Brian Cummings.

Nellie F. Hedgepeth
HENDERSON — Nellie Faulkner Hedgepeth, 83, of 1428 Peace St., Henderson, died Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013, at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.
Born in Vance County, she was the daughter of the late Gilbert Vernon Faulkner and Mamie Ayscue Faulkner. She was the widow of Clair Beverly Hedgepeth.
Mrs. Hedgepeth was a retired group chief operator at Carolina Telephone Company. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, the Fellowship Sunday School Class, the Weekend Packing Team, the Wednesday Night Meal Team, Circle 1, the Altar Guild and the United Methodist Women.
Funeral services will be held Monday, Jan. 7, 2012, at 11 a.m., at First United Methodist Church, conducted by the Dr. John Check. Burial will follow in Union Chapel United Methodist Cemetery.
Surviving are two daughters, Katherine H. Hughes and husband, Steve, and Beverly H. Kennedy and husband, Steve, all of Henderson; a son Gerald C. Hedgepeth and wife, Kimberly, of Henderson; a sister, Dorothy F. Ayscue of Louisburg; and six grandchildren, Katie Hughes, Kelly Hughes, Steven Kennedy, Gerri Anna Hedgepeth, Ellie Hedgepeth and Meri Clair Hedgepeth. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by four sisters, Elsie F. Ayscue, Helen F. Stevenson, Gladys F. McLaughlin and Paige F. Vaughan; and two brothers, Melvin T. Faulkner and James V. Faulkner.
The family will receive friends Monday, Jan. 7, 2013, from 10-11 a.m., in the parlor at First United Methodist Church. All other times, they will be at the home of Steve and Kathy Hughes, 1520 Peace St., Henderson.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Harry Hedgepeth, Thomas Edwards, Steven Kennedy, Chuck Brown, Matt Pickler, Jimmy Crawford and Marshall Sledge.

Dorothy K. Gill
WARRENTON — Dorothy Bell Kearney Gill, 67, of 739 Geneva Drive, Warrenton, died Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2013, in Newark, N.J.
The funeral service has changed from today to Monday, Jan. 7, 2013, at 2 p.m., at Coley Spring Baptist Church by Pastor Carson Jones. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Marisue S. Hill
DANVILLE, Kty. — Marisue Lynn Swain Hill, age 74, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 25, 2012.
She was born Oct. 1, 1938, in Sterns, Kty., to Dorman A. and Doris E. King Swain.
Of her many accomplishments, she would say her sons were her greatest. She was also the first Miss Boyle County and at one time was named Kentucky Dental Assistant of the Year. She also earned a private pilot license and was an avid scrap booker. She was a 1956 graduate of Danville High School and was an Admiral fan.
She is survived by her fiancé, Richard Simpson of Danville; sons Chris (Debbie) Hill of Danville, Kty., Scott (Susan) Hill of Lexington, Kty., and Michael (Susan) Hill of Oxford; five grandchildren, Christina, Elizabeth, Konnor, Patrick and Hagan Hill; her mother, Doris Swain of Danville, Kty.; one brother, Michael Swain of Danville, Kty.; and one sister, Brenda Currin of Oxford.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 49 years, Donald Alfred Hill.

Mary H. Peoples
WILMINGTON — Mary Elizabeth Hobgood Peoples, age 87, a resident of 4101 Fraternity Court, and a former resident of Henderson, died Friday, Jan. 4, 2013, at Davis Health Center in Wilmington.
Born on July 25. 1925, in Vance County, she was the daughter of the late Henry Frank Hobgood and Lena Briggs Hobgood. She was retired from Vance County Schools and was a member of Fuller Chapel United Church Of Christ, and attended Wrightsboro United Methodist Church in Wilmington.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2013, at 3 p.m., at Fuller Chapel United Church of Christ by the Rev. Tammy Ayscue. Entombment will follow in Sunset Gardens.
She is survived by two daughters, Debbie S. Wheat (Gene) and Jennifer P. Collins (Maxie), both of Wilmington; and four grandchildren, Doug Stanford, Kelley Wheat-Rivers, Rob Trotman and Gray Trotman. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Anderson Furman Peoples; and one brother, Henry Frank Hobgood Jr.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2013, prior to the service from 1:30-3 p.m., at Fuller Chapel United Church Of Christ.
Serving as active pall bearers will be Doug Sanford, Rob Trotman, Dan Wheat-Rivers, Adam Stephens, Billy T. Stanton, Dale Pernell, Danny Stanton and Billy Joe Stanton.

HENDERSON — Jean Dixon Faulkner, 85, of 210 Neathery Road, Henderson, died Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013, at her home.

David Foster Jr.
KITTRELL — David “Dave” Foster Jr., of Kittrell, died Friday, Dec. 21, 2012, in Wilmington, Del.
He was born July 30, 1927, to David A. Foster and Eltenner Perry Foster. He was educated through the North Carolina School System and at an early age joined Concord Baptist Church in Kittrell. He served in the US Army during an overseas assignment in the Korean War.
He moved to Philadelphia, Pa., where he joined Cornerstone Baptist Church and served faithfully. He later moved to Delaware where he was a member of Upon This Rock Missionary Baptist Church.
He was employed at Bunting and Glider while in Philadelphia and also started his own “painting company.” He later retired from Cheltenham Township Highway Department as a highway technician supervisor.
Funeral service will be held Monday, Jan. 7, 2013, at 1 p.m., at Concord Baptist Church, with Pastor S.E. Blalock officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
Survivors include: his wife, Annie S. Foster; three daughters: Pastor Annie Ruth Foster, Debra Alice Foster and Pastor Iris Regina Brown (Joel); 10 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; two sisters, Lealer Harris of Kittrell and Necie Mae Harris of Philadelphia, Pa.; two brothers: Lawrence W. Foster and James E. Foster, both of Kittrell.
Viewing will be held today, from 11:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m., at the funeral home and at the church one hour prior to the service.

HENDERSON — Barbara Stroud Parkins, 51, of 323 Zollicoffer Ave., Henderson, died Friday, Jan. 4, 2013, at Hock Family Pavilion in Durham.
Born in Vance County, she was the daughter of Carolyn Yvonne Doss Stroud of Henderson and the late Robert Timothy Stroud. She was the widow of James Robert Parkins.
Parkins was a former waitress at Nunnery-Freeman Barbecue Restaurant. She was a member of the ASPCA and the 700 Club.
Funeral services will be held Monday, Jan. 7, 2013, at 2 p.m., at Flowers Funeral Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Frank Sossamon. Burial will follow in Sunset Gardens.
Surviving, in addition to her mother, are a son, Roger G. Faucette Jr. of Kittrell; two sisters, Sandra Faucette of Kittrell and Connie Mayes of Stem; and one grandchild. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Rhonda Dement; and two brothers, Robert Stroud and Michael Stroud.
