Ruth S. Wade

HENDERSON — Ruth Sneed Wade, age 84, a resident of 932 Pine Ridge Road, died Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2013, at Maria Parham Medical Center.

Born on Nov. 20, 1928, in Vance County, she was the daughter of the late Fred G. Sneed and Lela Wilson Sneed. She was retired from Ball’s Accounting Service. She was a member of Hermon United Methodist Church where she served as a former treasurer and choir member.

Funeral services will be held Friday, Jan. 4, 2013, at 2 p.m., at Hermon United Methodist Church by the Rev. John Yount and the Rev. Bill Haddock. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

She is survived by two daughters, Dianne Wade Slaughter and husband, Delbert, and Elaine Wade Lowry of Henderson; two sons, Edward G. Wade and wife, Pauline, of Covington, Kty., and Irvin A. Wade of Henderson; one sister, Elizabeth S. “Libby” Fox of Durham; 10 grandchildren, Kirk Slaughter, Kenny Slaughter, Kathy Slaughter, Brandy Lowry Hansen, Josh Wade, Justin Wade, Eric Null, Brian Null, Jonathan Wad, and Chelsea Wade; and 15 great-grandchildren, Steve Slaughter, Christan Sims, Hayley Ivey, Gia Marie Hansen, Tyler Wade, Olivia Wade, Justin Wade Jr., Zachary Wade, Kelsie Wade, McKensie Wade, Jasmine Null, Eric Null Jr., Cole Null, Bryce Null and Gabriel Null. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Irvin Wade; one sister, Laurie Sneed Ball; and two brothers, Allen Sneed and Fred Sneed.

The family will receive friends tonight, from 7-8 p.m., at J. M. White Funeral Home. At other times they will be at the home of Elaine Lowry, 99 Edward Wade Lane, off Pine Ridge Road.

Serving as active pall bearers will be Al Wade, Bobby Wade, Jimmy Wade, Ricky Sneed, Al Teel, Frankie Wade, Jim Johnson and Gabe Ivey.

Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to Hermon United Methodist Church, c/o Florence Pernell, 3144 Dabney Road, Henderson, NC 27537.

KITTRELL — Shirley Lee Davis White, 77, of 260 Lynnbank Estate Road, Kittrell, died Friday, Dec. 28, 2012, at Maria Parham Medical Center.

Chapel service will be conducted today, at 1 p.m., at Davis-Royster Funeral Service by the Rev. Clarence LeMay. Burial will follow in Sunset Gardens.

Cora B. Chambers

BUTNER — Cora Bell Chambers, 70, a resident of 600 East B St., died Monday in Henderson.

She was the daughter of the late Ollie T. Daye Sr. and Katherine Smith Daye of Person County.

She is survived by two sisters, Shirley Jones, Roxboro and Pauline McDougle, Bunn Level; and three brothers, Ollie “Joe” Daye Jr. of the home, Robert Daye of Roxboro and George Daye of Gibsonville.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, Jan. 5, 2012, at 1 p.m., at Siloam Baptist Church in Person County by the Rev. Wayne Johnson. Burial will be in the Bass-Burton Family Cemetery.

A viewing will be held Friday, Jan. 4, 2013, from 11 a.m-7 p.m., at Wright Funeral Home in Oxford. The family will receive visitors one hour prior to services at Siloam Baptist Church.


Ann G. Dudley-Bynum

DURHAM — Ann Granger Dudley-Bynum, 65, a resident of 531 East Carver St., Durham, died Monday, Dec. 31, 2012, at Durham Regional Hospital.

Born Aug. 14, 1947, in Vance County, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin Woodrow Granger Sr. and Lucy Paschall Granger. She was a homemaker and housewife and member of Liberty Baptist Church in Durham.

A private burial conducted by Pastor Cox was held by the family at Sunset Gardens.

A memorial service was held Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2013, at 7 p.m., at Liberty Baptist Church in Durham.

She is survived by her husband, William Bynum of the home; her daughter, Sandra L. Dudley of Jacskonsville; two brothers, Charles Granger and John “Mack” Granger both of Henderson.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Nathan David Dudley; a sister, Judy Granger Cates; and two brothers, Benjamin Woodrow Granger Jr. and Doug Granger.

HENDERSON — Mary Fuller, 97, died Jan. 1, 2013, at Kindred Nursing and Rehabilitation of Henderson.

WARRENTON — Dorothy Belle Kearney Gill, 67, of 739 Geneva Dr., Warrenton, died Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2013, in Newark, N.J.

Vinell Y. Moore

OXFORD — Vinell Young Moore, 82, a resident of 3083 Watkins-Wilkerson Road, died Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2012, at Granville Medical Center.

She was the daughter of the late Alfred Young and Mollie Marrow Young. She was a former employee of J. F. Webb High School and the former JFD Electronics. She was a member of Huntsville Baptist Church where she was a member of the senior choir.

She is survived by three daughters, Alice Mitchell of Butner, and Brenda Latta and Nell Fields, both of Oxford; two sisters, Eunice McGhee and Edith Daniel, both of Oxford; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted Friday, Jan. 4, 2013, at 11 a.m., at Huntsville Baptist Church by the Rev. Gerald Latta. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive visitors one hour prior to services at Huntsville Baptist Church. Viewing will begin at 10 a.m. at the church.

Alexander Peace

OXFORD — Alexander “Curly” Peace, 68, of 609 Raleigh St., Oxford, died Dec. 30, 2012, at his home. He was born to the late James and Sudie Wilkerson Peace.

He was educated in Vance County Public Schools and at an early age, he joined Mt. Moriah AME Zion Church.

Alexander was employed at Burlington Mills and worked several other jobs including Bandag.

Funeral service will be held Friday, Jan. 4, 2013, at 2 p.m., at Mt. Moriah A.M. E. Zion Church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret Peace; five children: Yvonne Bullock, Gloria Peace, Suzett Peace, Dorothy Peace and James Peace, all of Henderson; 10 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; three sisters: Amy Kittrell, Mary Talley and Hellen Perry, all of Henderson; three brothers: James H. Peace of Kittrell, Arthur Peace of Oxford and Robert Peace of Henderson.

A viewing will be held today, from noon-6 p.m., at the funeral home and at the church one hour prior to the service.

Edward M. Richardson

OXFORD — Edward McCoy “Coy” Richardson, 69, a resident of 3568 Roundtree Road, Oxford, died Monday, Dec. 31, 2012, at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville.

He was the son of the late James “JE” and Ella Richardson.

Richardson received his education in the Granville County School System and at Carver Vocational High School in Baltimore, Maryland.

He was a long distance truck driver for over 40 years.

Survivors include his wife, Geraldine Washington Richardson of the home; and one sister, Ella Jean Foster of Oxford.

Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013, at 1 p.m., in the Betts & Son Funeral Home Chapel with a eulogy delivered by the Rev. Gregory Hardy. Interment will follow in the Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.

Viewing will be Friday, Jan. 4, 2013, from 11 a.m.-6 p.m., at the funeral home.

The family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to the service at the funeral home and other times at 116 Windimere Ave., Oxford.

David E. Satterwhite

HENDERSON — David Eugene Satterwhite, 51, a resident of 435 Red Head Lane in the Vicksboro Community, died Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2013, at his home.

Born in Portsmouth, Va., on Sept. 17, 1961, he was the son of the late William Satterwhite and Anne Ayscue Satterwhite of Henderson. He was self-employed in construction and attended Mt. Ararat Pentecostal Holiness Church.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013,, at 11 a.m., at Mt. Ararat Pentecostal Holiness Church by the Rev. Allen Ayscue. Burial will follow in Sunset Gardens.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by three sons, Roy Satterwhite, David Wayne Satterwhite and Jacob Satterwhite; all of Henderson; three sisters, Glenda S. Lopez, Joyce S. Faucette and Kitty S. Faulkner; all of Henderson; and six brothers, James Satterwhite, Jeff Satterwhite, Glenn Satterwhite, Randy Satterwhite and Tracy Satterwhite, all of Henderson; and Dennis Satterwhite of Castalia.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by one son, Daniel Eugene Satterwhite.

The family will receive friends Friday, Jan. 4, 2013, from 7-8:30 p.m., at J. M. White Funeral Home. At other times they will be at the home of his mother, Anne Satterwhite, at 219 Garrett Road, Henderson.

Serving as active pall bearers will be Mike Ayscue, Timmy Guill, Joe Johnson, Tyler Satterwhite, David Wayne Satterwhite, Bruce Harp, Kenneth Faulkner and Howard Faucette Jr.

Alice Green Smith

VANCE COUNTY — Alice Green Smith, 98, died Saturday, Dec. 29, 2012, at Washington Center for the Aging, Washington, D.C.,

Born in Vance County, she was the daughter of the late William and Annie Green. At an early age she joined Cotton Memorial Presbyterian Church.

She attended Vance County Schools and after graduation received her bachelor’s degree from Winston Salem State University, Winston-Salem, and later her master’s degree from the University of Pennsylvania.

She taught in the Vance County Schools for several years and was a teacher’s supervisor in Wilson.

After moving to Babylon, N.Y., she taught and was the elementary teacher’s supervisor. She moved to
Washington, D.C., in 2006 and retired.

She was a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority.
Surviving are three sisters, Annie Green Ponds, Eva Green Donaldson and Margret Green Labot,

She was preceded in death by Jenny Green Felcher and Dr. J. P. Green.

Graveside services will be conducted Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013, at 11:30 a.m., at Elmwood Cemetery with the Rev. Gordon Marshall, officiating.

A viewing will take place Friday, Jan. 4, 2013, at E.C. Terry’s Funeral Chapel from 2-6 p.m.

Arrangements have been entrusted to E.C. Terry’s Funeral and Cremation Service.
