Ronald Hargrove

HENDERSON — Ronald Hargrove, 57, of 434 Whitten Ave., Henderson, died Sunday, Jan. 13, 2013, at Duke University Hospital, Durham.

The family is receiving friends at the residence.

Barbara F. McNeill

TRINITY — Barbara Fuller McNeill, 71, died Friday, Jan. 11, 2013, at Hospice Home at High Point.

A native of Vance County, McNeill was born Feb. 9, 1941, in Henderson, a daughter of William Albert and Florence Collins Fuller. She had been a resident of Trinity for the past 30 years, coming here from Henderson. While living in Henderson, she worked for many years at Henderson Drug No. 2. She was a member of Fairview United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women.

She was preceded in death by her father, William Fuller; her mother, Florence Collins Harris and her brother, William Hartwell “W.H.” Fuller.

On Jan. 25, 1979, she married Randy Lawrence McNeill, who survives, of the home. Also surviving are daughters, Cynthia Wilson Liggon of Oxford and Robin Ann Hawthorne of Southport; four grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.

Funeral services were held Monday, Jan. 14, 2013, at 2 p.m., in the chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service in Archdale with the Rev. Nancy Krall officiating. Burial follow in the cemetery at Fairview United Methodist Church. The family received friends, at the funeral home, one prior to the service.

James C. Morton Jr.

WARRENTON — James Coleman Morton Jr., 56, of 864 U.S. 158 Business West, Warrenton, died Friday, Jan. 11, 2013, at Duke University Hospital in Durham.

Arrangements will be announced by Davis-Royster Funeral Service.

Clarence W. Watley

NORLINA — Clarence Walter Watley, 69, of 107 Brown Circle, Norlina, died Friday, Jan. 11, 2013, at Duke Raleigh Hospital.

He was born in St. Louis, Mo., on Feb, 11, 1943, to the late Odie and Leora Meyers Watley.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, Jan. 17, 2013, at 2 p.m., at Mt. Moriah AME Zion Church with Pastor Bristow officiating. Interment will follow in First Baptist Church of Soul City Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Pattie Harris Watley.

A viewing will be held today, from noon-6 p.m., at the funeral home and at the church one hour prior to the service.

Elizabeth B. Williford

OXFORD — Elizabeth “Betty B.” Brent Mayes Williford, 85, died Jan. 15, 2013, at Maria Parham Medical Center in Henderson.

A native of Granville County, she was the daughter of the late John Brent and Mary Royall Hancock Mayes. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Thomas Williford.

She was a former co-owner of Oxford ACE Hardware, where she created the Bridal and Gift Shoppe. She was a member of the Oxford United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and a bookkeeper. Williford volunteered for many years with different organizations. She was an avid Bridge player and belonged to several clubs. She and her husband vacationed regularly at their Fripp Island home and traveled with their local couples group.

Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, Jan. 17, 2013, at 3 p.m., in the Oxford United Methodist Church by the Rev. Billy Seate and the Rev. Vernon Wilkerson. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.

Surviving are daughters, Elizabeth Dale Williford of Salter Path and Dorothy Brent Williford Wilson of Chapel Hill; sons, Robert Thomas Williford II and John Crawford Williford, both of Oxford; seven grandchildren; and six great- grandchildren. She was preceded by one sister, Caroline Breedlove.

The family will receive friends Thursday, Jan. 17, 2013, from 1:30-3 p.m., in the fellowship hall prior to the services. At other times they will be at the home.

Harry J. Wortham

WARREN COUNTY — Harry Joseph “Joe” Wortham died Friday, Jan. 11, 2013, at Duke Medical Center, Durham.

Born in Baltimore, Md., he grew up in Warren County to the late Harry Richard and Bertha Kearney Wortham.

He graduated from John R. Hawkins High School, Warrenton, and later joined the U.S. Navy, receiving an Honorable Discharge.

He lived in Paterson, N.J., and continued his education, graduating from New York, School of Announcing and Speech, lnc., Radio City, N.Y. He later graduated from Lincoln Technical Institute, Union, N.J.

After relocating to Henderson, he was a gospel DJ and promoter for many years. He was employed with the former WHNC Radio Station. He was the master of ceremonies for many years in this area.

Surviving are his wife of 51 years, Ella Stewart Wortham; one son, Sean, and one daughter, Kintina, both of Henderson; eight grandchildren; one brother, the Rev. Samuel Wortham of Henderson; three sisters, Linda Willilams and Barbara Burns of New York and Connie Williams of Centerville.

Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, Jan. 17, 2013, at 2 p.m., at New Bethel Baptist Church, with Bishop W.E. Purvis presiding and a eulogy delivered by the Rev. Nelson Terry, assisted by the Rev. Shirley Durham and Minister Brenda Terry .

Interment will follow in the Blacknall Cemetery with Military Rites. Floral bearers and pallbearers will be family friends.
A viewing will take place today, from 2-7 p.m., at E.C. Terry’s Funeral Service Chapel and the family will be at 505 Azelea Drive, Henderson.
