Lovie Thompson

PITTSBORO — Mrs. Lovie Thompson, affectionately known as Daughtie, died on Sunday, Nov. 17, 2013, at N.C. Memorial Hospital of Chapel Hill.

For the previous three years she had resided at Twin Rivers in Pittsboro. Lovie was 94 years old.

We would like to give a special thanks to Debbie Morris, LaDonna Moody, Pat Ellis, Karen Davis and Katie Hudson, who so lovingly cared for Lovie the past year-and-a-half. We would like to extend our gratitude to the entire staff of Twin Rivers for all the kindness and love they gave Lovie the past three years.

Lovie is survived by her nephew, Richard Bradley and his wife Lee of Pittsboro and their daughter Rebecca and son-in-law Stephen of Apex.

She had many nieces, including Joy Anderson and her husband Walt and daughters Scarlet of Rocky Mount and Cindy of Hawaii; Marie (Zooda) Harrell of Williamsburg, Va.; Dinah Pitts of Toano, Va.; Faye Boyd of Timberlake and her daughter Kim of Rougemont; Sheila Moose and her husband Ed of Kernersville and daughter Sherri of Rocky Mount; and Gladys Flemming and Wyoming Irving, both from Leggett.

Anyone who knew Lovie knew how she loved gardening. At 90 years old, you could have found her many days out in her garden chopping weeds. Her other passions were her church (Williams Primitive Baptist Church), her family, sewing (which was also her occupation), quilting and visiting with friends. Lovie was treasurer of her beloved Primitive Baptist Church for approximately 60 years.

The family will receive visitors today, Nov. 22, from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. at Hall-Wynne Funeral Home, 396 West Street, Pittsboro, NC 27312.

The funeral will be held on Saturday, Nov. 23, at 2 p.m. at Williams Primitive Baptist Church at 1868 White Oak Swamp Road, Whitakers, with Elder Johnny Ray Gardener officiating. Burial will be in Edgecombe Memorial Park in Tarboro.

Jimmie R. Ikner

HENDERSON — Jimmie Ray Ikner, 79, of 526 Old Warrenton Road, died Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2013, at Rex Hospital in Raleigh.

Born in Frisco City, Ala., he was the son of the late Chesley Monroe Ikner and Leesie Maureen Smith Ikner.

Mr. Ikner was retired from Carolina Power and Light Company as a right-of-way agent. He was also owner of Jimmie R. Ikner Electrical Service. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War. An active member of Cokesbury United Methodist Church, he sang in the choir and “The Calling” (a contemporary chorus) and was a member and teacher of the Couple’s Sunday School Class. He was a member of the Henderson Masonic Lodge No. 229 A.F. & A.M.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Nov. 23, at 2 p.m. at Cokesbury United Methodist Church, conducted by Rev. Julia Alliger and Rev. Gary Harper. Burial with military honors will follow in the church cemetery.

Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Betty Harton Ikner; two daughters, Debbie I. Thompson and husband Jack of Houston, Texas, and Karen I. Reece of Oxford; a son, Bradley Ray Ikner and wife Vicki of Wilmington; two brothers, David Ikner and wife Shirley of Leroy, Ala., and Wayne Ikner and wife Sharon of Monroeville, Ala.; five grandchildren, Derrick Haskins, Randall Haskins, Daniel Reece, Brittany Kinkead and husband James and Lauren Ikner; and three great-grandchildren, Jaden Kinkead, Collin Kinkead and Christian Kinkead.

He was preceded in death by four brothers, Larry Ikner, Carlton Ikner, Winston Ikner and Kevin Ikner.

The family will receive friends today, Nov. 22, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Flowers Funeral Home. At all other times they will be at the home, 526 Old Warrenton Road, Henderson.

Serving as active pallbearers will be Derrick Haskins, Randall Haskins, Alonza Jones, John Parrish, David Grissom, Barry Davis, Jeff Fuller and Randy Abbott. Honorary pallbearers will be Pete Overton, Woody Harton, Steve Collier, Jerry Pegram, Daniel Pegram, Darrell Ayers and the Men’s Sunday School Class of Cokesbury United Methodist Church.

Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Cokesbury United Methodist Church, Food Pantry, c/o Ruth Moss, 1705 Allison Cooper Road, Henderson, NC 27537.

BULLOCK — Isabella Bullock Russell, 86, died Friday, Nov. 15, 2013, at Maria Parham Medical Center.

A funeral will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 24, at Oak Level United Church of Christ in Manson by Rev. John Jefferson Sr. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

HENDERSON — Andrew J. Taylor, 81, of 3130 Stagecoach Road, died Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2013, at Maria Parham Medical Center.

A funeral will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 23, at Shiloh Baptist Church.

DURHAM — Willie Gray Yancey, 80, of 11 Wateroaks Court, died Monday, Nov. 18, 2013, at Hock Family Pavilion in Durham.

A funeral will be held at noon Saturday, Nov. 23, at Grace Missionary Baptist Church in Kittrell by Pastor Clarence LeMay. Interment will follow in Grace Gardens.
