Oscar R. Baker
NORLINA — Oscar Ray Baker, 90, died Thursday, Nov. 7, 2013, at Warren Hills Nursing Center.
He was a Thomasville native born to the late Joseph John and Sudie Forest Baker.
Oscar was also preceded in death by his wife, Leola Egerton Baker; his son, Ronald Ray Baker; his brothers, Jack and Roy Baker; and his sisters, Alice Westmorland and Josey Kennedy.
Mr. Baker was a member of the Norlina United Methodist Church, was a veteran of the U.S. Army, was a retired conductor with Seaboard Coastline and was a devoted UNC Tar Heel fan.
Rev. Rod Mullen will conduct graveside services at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 9, at Warren Dale Cemetery in Norlina.
Mr. Baker is survived by his son, Joseph M. “Mike” Baker of Norlina; his daughter, Robin Baker Young and husband Bill of Macon; his daughter-in-law, Patricia Baker of Norlina; five grandchildren, Norwood Dismon Baker and wife Trish, Beth Baker Vick and husband Curtis, Ashley Elizabeth Young, William Drew Young and Angie A. Glover and husband Robbie; and her six great-grandchildren, Hannah Raye Vick, John Glover, Hailey Glover, Sarah Ann Vick, Robert Curtis Vick IV and Aiden Michael Baker.
Flowers are accepted or memorials may be made to Norlina United Methodist Church or to the Warren County Senior Citizen’s Center.
No viewing or visitation will take place.

Mary F. Daniel
OXFORD — Mary Ann Floyd Daniel, 80, a longtime resident of Granville County, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2013, at Duke Regional Hospital in Durham.
A native of Granville County, she was the daughter of the late Bud Leonard and Janie Pryor Floyd.
She was a member of Oxford Baptist Church and worked for many Granville County doctors for 40 plus years.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 9, 2013, in Elmwood Cemetery by Rev. Chris Aho.
Surviving are a daughter, Lynn D. Cox and husband Keith; a son, Charles N. Daniel and wife Susan; five granddaughters, Ashley Cox Lewis (Bo), Leighanne Cox Keighley (Steve), Caroline Cox Brewer (Matt), Mary Claire Daniel Duke (Ryan) and Allie Malone Daniel, all of Oxford; two great-grandsons, Landon and Noah Lewis; and two great-granddaughters, Ava Grace Keighley and Lilly Kate Brewer.
She was predeceased by her husband, Nelson T. Daniel, longtime owner of Eakes Funeral Home in Oxford and Creedmoor.
Visitation will be Saturday, Nov. 9, 2013, from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at Eakes Funeral Home in Oxford and at other times at the home of Keith and Lynn Cox, 219 Hillcrest Drive, Oxford.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Oxford Baptist Church, PO Box 398, Oxford, NC 27565.

LOUISBURG — Rev. Francis L. Alston, 89, died Thursday, Oct. 31, 2013, at Franklin Oaks Nursing Facility.
A funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 9, at Ridgeway Missionary Baptist Church by Rev. John E. Alston. Burial will follow in First Baptist Memorial Gardens.
Viewing is today, Nov. 8, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Boyd’s Funeral Services Chapel in Warrenton.

HENDERSON — Arthur Rochester “Chester” Martin, 72, of 210 East Parkview Drive, died Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2013, at his residence.
A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 9, at Dickies Grove Missionary Baptist Church by Dr. Jeanette Floyd.
Viewing is today, Nov. 8, from noon to 6 p.m. at Davis-Royster Funeral Service and at the church one hour prior to the service.
The family will receive friends at the residence.
