Louise H. Alewine

Louise Frances Heath Alewine, 85, formerly of Stagecoach Road in Henderson, N.C., died Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2013, at a local nursing home.

Born in Appomattox, Va., she was the daughter of the late Henry Jackson Heath and Bessie Lee Pierce Heath. She was the widow of Guy Ellis Alewine.

Mrs. Alewine was a retired assistant manager at Pizza Inn. She was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church in Asheboro, N.C., and attended Grace Baptist Church in Henderson.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, Jan. 3, 2013, at 2 p.m. at Flowers Funeral Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Calvin Mills. Burial will follow in Sunset Gardens.

Surviving are a son, Jimmy Wayne Heath and wife Robin of Henderson; a stepson, Ernest Franklin Alewine and wife Deanna of Clairmont, Fla.; three grandchildren: Melissa Renee H. Brown and husband Jeremy of Townsville, N.C., Nancy Elizabeth Roberson of Henderson, and Melanie A. Coffee of Florida; and seven great-grandchildren: Bryce Roberson, Carliegh Roberson, Jennah Roberson, Alicia Tucker, Seth Brown, Benjamin Coffee and Emily Coffee. She was preceded in death by a son, Michael Ellis Alewine; a grandson, Michael Aaron Alewine; three sisters, Viola B. Kidd, Elsie B. Parham and Mary B. Parham; and a brother, Ben Archie Heath.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Flowers Funeral Home. All other times, they will be at the home of Wayne and Robin Heath, 150 Rice Road in Henderson.

Serving as active pallbearers will be Ricky Parham, Tony Blackmon, Donald Ray Heath, Jack Heath, Benny Heath, Jason Reavis, Jeremy Brown and Dale Stepusin.

Arrangements are by Flowers Funeral Home.

Alice Green Smith

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Alice Green Smith, 98, daughter of the late William and Annie Green, was born in Vance County and died Saturday, Dec. 29, 2012, at Washington Center for the Aging in Washington, D.C.

At an early age, she joined the Cotton Memorial Presbyterian Church.

She attended Vance County Schools and after graduation received her bachelor’s degree from Winston-Salem State University and her master’s degree from the University of Pennsylvania.

She taught in the Vance County Schools for several years and was a teacher’s supervisor in Wilson, N.C. After moving to Babylon, N.Y., she taught and was the elementary teacher’s supervisor. She moved to Washington, D.C., in 2006 and retired.

Surviving are three sisters: Annie Green Ponds, Eve Green Donaldson and Margret Green Labot. She was preceded in death by Jenny Green Felcher and Dr. J.P. Green.

Graveside services will be conducted Saturday at 11:30 a.m. at Elmwood Cemetery with the Rev. Gordon Marshall officiating.

Viewing will be Friday at E.C. Terry’s Funeral Chapel from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.

WARRENTON — Mrs. Queen Marie Webb, 89, formerly of 521 U.S. 158 Business East in Warrenton, died Jan. 1, 2013, at Senior Citizen’s Home of Henderson.

Arrangement are incomplete and being handled by R.H. Greene Funeral Home of Warrenton.

Ruth S. Wade, 84, a resident of 99 Edward Wade Lane in Henderson, died Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2013, at Maria Parham Medical center.
