James H. Henderson

OXFORD — James Henry Henderson, age 85, of 300 Hunter’s Road, died Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2012, at his home.

A native of Vance County, he was the son of the late George Henry and Sally Virginia Matthews Henderson. James was a retired farmer, a member of Salem United Methodist Church and an Army veteran of World War II. He and his brother, Junnie, ran a business together, Henderson Brothers. They sold eggs and produce at the farmers market. When his mother became ill, he and Junnie took her to the doctor’s office, where he saw Gladys Wade. He returned the next day and asked her to lunch, the rest is history. Gladys and James were married 55 years and were a living example of love. He was a faithful community man and loved by many.

Surviving is his wife of 55 years, Gladys Wade Henderson. He was the loving father to Bryant of Oxford, Patricia (Jim) London of Los Angeles, Calif., and George (Priscilla) of Kittrell. grandfather of Jimmy, Sara, Kate, James, Tracie (Brian), Chris, Nicole, Patricia (Norwood), Jennifer, Michelle (Carrie); great-grandfather of Kyrah, Frederick, Vinnie, Alex, Annabella, Giulianna, Phoebe and Aiden; and a brother to Dorothy Henderson Cotton, as well as a close family friend, J.W. Currin. Mr. Henderson was preceded in death by his brother, Junnie.
A memorial service will be conducted at 1 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 30, 2012, at Salem United Methodist Church by the Rev. Alan Felton, the Rev. John Yount and the Rev. Marshall Neathery. The family will receive friends on Saturday evening, Dec. 29, 2012, from 7-8:30 p.m., at the funeral home.

Gladys Jones

HENDERSON — Gladys Jones, 87, a resident of Kerr Lake Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, died Thursday, Dec. 27, 2012.

Laura M. Kearney

HENDERSON — Laura M. Kearney, 80, of 3106 Thomas Road in Henderson, died Thursday, Dec. 20, 2012, at Maria Parham Hospital in Henderson.

Funeral services will be conducted today, at 1 p.m., at Boyd’s Funeral Services Chapel in Warrenton. The Rev. Carson F. Jones, Jr. will officiate and burial will follow at Coley Springs Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery in Warrenton.

Survivors include: one daughter, Doris Griffin; two sons, Clyde Kearney Jr. and Larry Kearney; 14 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two sisters; and one brother.

Professional services have been entrusted to Boyd’s Funeral Services in Warrenton.

Hardy Small Jr.

HENDERSON — Hardy Small Jr., 73, of 100 Spring Valley Road, died Dec. 12, 2012, at his resident.

He was born in Vance County and the son of the late Hardy, Sr. and Sophia Terry Small.

He attended the Vance County Public Schools and later moved to New Jersey in 1966 where he lived for many years before returning to Henderson in 2004. He retired from New Jersey Galvanizing Company.

Funeral service will be Saturday, Dec. 29, 2012, at noon, at Mt. Calvary United Holy Church by Pastor Nathaniel Howard. Burial will follow at Antioch United Church of Christ.

Survivors include his wife. Linda Ruth Williams Small of the home; and his children, Michael Small, Lena Ann Brooks, Cynthia McGhee, Cozetta Alston, Michael Williams, Sharon Murad, Hardy Small III and Teisha Small.

Family will receive friends at the resident. Body will be on at view at the Funeral Home today, from 11 a.m.-6 p.m., and at the church one hour before the service.

Cynthia Williams

WARREN COUNTY — Cynthia Williams, 64, of 216 Richardson Court in Nashville (formerly of Warren County), died Sunday, Dec. 23, 2012, at her residence.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Dec. 29, 2012, at 1 p.m., at Spring Green Missionary Baptist Church in Warrenton. The Rev. Dr. George Wright Jr., pastor, will officiate and burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Survivors include: three daughters, the Rev. Cheryl Harper of Warrenton, Karen Hollingsworth of Castalia and Tenisha Williams of the home; one son, Evell Williams III of Passaic, N.J.; 14 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one brother; Nathaniel Washington of Paterson, N.J.; and one sister, Willie Mae Carswell of Paterson, N.J.

The body will be on view Saturday, Dec. 29, 2012, from noon-1 p.m., at Spring Green Missionary Baptist Church in Warrenton.
