Billie J. Loyd Jr.
OXFORD — Mr. Billie Joe Loyd Jr. died Aug. 26, 2014, at Granville Medical Center.
He was the son of the late Billie Joe Loyd Sr. and Elma Sykes Loyd. He was a native of Franklin County and was of the Baptist faith. B.J. worked for and retired from the USDA Conservation Service in 1990 with more than 32 years of service. Starting in 1991, B.J. worked with the Granville Soil and Water District part-time until June of 2009, when he retired with more than 50 years of service to both agencies. In November, B.J. was appointed to the Granville County Soil and Water District Board of Supervisors and served until his death. B.J.’s specialty was designing and constructing ponds. He spent a lot of time on special assignments, such as the Crabtree Creek Flood Project around the Raleigh-Durham International Airport.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday, Aug. 29, 2014, at 2 p.m. in the Gentry-Newell & Vaughan Chapel by the Rev. John Yount. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
Visitation is prior to the service at the funeral home.
He is survived by his wife, Henrietta Callis Loyd; daughter, Mary White (Brian) of Raleigh; and two grandchildren, Evan Patrick White and Emma Kate White.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Willie Loyd Sr.
He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Helen; nephew, Robert Loyd (Ann); two nieces, Meredith Wilder (David) and Loria Lester (Eugene); and brothers-in-law Frank Callis Jr. (Carolyn), Reid Callis (Elizabeth Ann) and Roy Callis (Reca).
The family will receive friends Friday, Aug. 29, 2014, from 12:30 until 2 p.m. prior to the services. At other times they will be at the home of Roy and Reca Callis, 4059 N.C. 96 South, Oxford, NC 27565.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Granville County 4-H, P.O. Box 1542, Oxford, NC 27565.

Carolyn B. Sumners
HENDERSON — Carolyn Bell Sumners, age 78, a resident of Chestnut Street, died Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2014, at Community Memorial Hospital in South Hill, Virginia.
Born in Vance County on Aug. 13, 1936, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Carroll Bell Sr. and Myrtle Grissom Bell. She was a retired director of the Vance County Senior Center.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Aug. 29, at 11 a.m. at the Church of The Holy Innocents by the Rev. Donald Lowery. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery.
She is survived by two daughters, Nancy Bell Sumners of Anderson, South Carolina, and Elisbeth P. Upton of Boydton, Virginia; one sister, Nancy Bell Rogers of Henderson; one brother, Joseph Carroll Bell Jr. and wife Nancy of Henderson; two grandchildren, Caitlin Upton and Caleb Upton; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends tonight, Aug. 28, from 7 until 8:30 p.m. at J.M. White Funeral Home.

HENDERSON — Ola Mae Anderson, 80, of Kerr Lake Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, died Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2014, at her residence.
The family will receive visitors at 206 Edgewood Drive.

FRANKLINTON — Mary C. “Tot” Bynum, 78, died Friday, Aug. 22, 2014.

HENDERSON — John Nelson Daniels, 61, of 525 Water St., died Saturday, Aug. 23, 2014, at Duke University Hospital.
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 29, at Big Ruin Creek Missionary Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Antioch United Church of Christ Cemetery.
Viewing is today, Aug. 28, from noon to 6 p.m. in the chapel of Davis-Royster Funeral Service and at the church one hour prior to the service.
The family is receiving friends at the residence.

MANSON — Helen Harris, 80, of 47 Johnnie Evans Road, died Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2014, at Kindred Hospital in Greensboro.

OXFORD — D.C. Reece, 86, of Enon Road, died Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2014, at Granville Medical Center.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 29, at Enon Baptist Church Cemetery by the Rev. Steve Brown.
Visitation will be prior to the service from 12:30 to 2 p.m. at the church.
