Clara T. Yancey

HENDERSON — Clara Twisdale Yancey, age 78, a resident of 1085 Edwards Road, Henderson, died Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2013, at Maria Parham Medical Center in Henderson.
Born in Vance County on June 24, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Charlie Twisdale and Josephine Hope Twisdale.

Mrs. Yancey was a homemaker and a member of Gillburg United Methodist Church where she was a former member of the church choir for many years.

Funeral services will be held Friday, Feb. 15, 2013, at 2 p.m., at Gillburg United Methodist Church by the Rev. Calvin Dickenson and the Rev. Frank Sossamon. Burial will follow in Sunset Gardens.

She is survived by her husband, Chester Jordan Yancey of the home; one daughter, Barbara Y. Ayscue of Henderson; four sons, Kenneth Yancey and wife, Joette T., of Henderson, Dennis Yancey and wife, Fern, of Candor, Earl Yancey and wife, Wendy, of Scott Depot, W.V., and Chester Lee Yancey and wife, Deborah of Farmville, Va.; one brother, James Twisdale of Henderson; one sister-in-law, Judy Twisdale of Henderson; 11 grandchildren, Julie Gibson, Anthony Ayscue, Lisa Dickerson, Scott Yancey, Jordan Yancey, LuAnn Yancey, Shelby Yancey, Rebecca Yancey, Teresa Crommer, Michelle Yancey and Michael Yancey; four great-grandchildren, Brittany, Heather, Matt and Lucas; and one great-great-grandchild, Jacob. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Kimberly Dawn Yancey; and a son-in-law, Perry Ayscue.

The family will receive friends tonight, from 7-8:30 p.m., at J. M. White Funeral Home. At other times they will be at the home at 1085 Edwards Road.

Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to Gillburg United Methodist Church, 4815 NC Hwy 39 South, Henderson, NC 27537.

Elberta Harris Armstrong

WARREN COUNTY — Elberta Harris Armstrong, 104, formerly of Warren County, died Feb. 11, 2013, at St. Benson DePaul Nursing Home in Bronx, N.Y.

Lucy L. Hope

HENDERSON — Lucy Lester Hope, 91, a resident of Senior Citizens Nursing Home, and a former resident of Satterwhite Point Road, died Wednesday, Feb.13, 2013.

Born on Sept. 20, 1921, in Warren County, she was the daughter of the late Jacob E. Lester and Cora Mansfield Lester. She was retired from Roses Stores, Inc. and was a member of Flat Rock United Methodist Church, the Vance County Senior Center, and the United Methodist Women at Spring Valley United Methodist Church.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Feb. 16, 2013, at 2 p.m., at Flat Rock United Methodist Church by the Rev. Will Breedlove, the Rev. Pam Gilliam and the Rev. Cathy Hoyle. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

She is survived by four daughters, Brenda H. Mustian, Deta H. Wright and Lynn H..Veldkamp, all of Henderson, and Sue H. Foster of Louisburg; one son, Hartwell E. Hope of Henderson; one sister, Janie L. Edwards of Henderson; 14 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; and four-great-great grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence B. “L.B.” Hope.

The family will receive friends Saturday, Feb. 16, 2013, prior to the service, from noon until 2 p.m., at Flat Rock United Methodist Church. At other times they will be at the home of Lynn and Willie Veldkamp at 234 Country Lake Drive at Kerr Lake Country Club.

Serving as active pall bearers will be her grandsons, Morris Mustian, Robert Gill, M. J. Gimbar, Jacob Mustian, Paul Hope and Steve Hope. Also serving will be Dennis Archer and Kevin Pahl.

Wilbert L. Jones

HENDERSON — Wilbert L. Jones, 64, died Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2013, at Maria Parham Medical Center in Henderson.

Arrangements are by E.C. Terry’s Funeral and Cremation Service.

Ruby P. Mebane

VANCE COUNTY — Ruby Naomi Pettaway Mebane, 75, died Saturday, Feb. 9, 2013 at Granville Medical Center in Oxford.

The daughter of the late John H. and Amy H. Pettaway, she was born April 24, 1937, in Vance County. She was educated in the Vance County Public School System.

Ruby joined the Oak Level United Church of Christ at an early age, and remaining a member until her health declined.
Mebane was employed at Holiday Inn of Henderson for over 17 years.

She was married to the late James Ellis Mebane.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by five brothers, William “Bill,” Sylvester “Vest,” John “Link,” and Harold and Arthur Lee Pettaway.

Funeral services will be conducted Friday, Feb. 15, 2013, at 1 p.m., from Oak Level United Church of Christ in Manson. The Rev. Leon White, pastor, will deliver the eulogy. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Survivors include: one daughter, Vanessa Mebane of the home; four sons: James of Arlington, Wash., William of Oak Harbor, Wash., Stacy of Fayetteville, and Christopher Mebane of Arlington, Va.; 11 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Mebane may be viewed today, from 11 a.m.-7 p.m., in the R. H. Greene Funeral Home Chapel, and at the church one hour prior to the service.

Arrangements have been entrusted to R. H. Greene Funeral Home of Warrenton.

Elizabeth R. Van Zandt

HENDERSON — Elizabeth Roberson “Libby” Van Zandt, 53, of 5172 Raleigh Road, Kittrell, died Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2013, at her home.
