Harriet M. Ayscue

HENDERSON — Harriet Miller Ayscue, 84, of 673 Weldon Road, Henderson, (in the Epsom Community) died Monday, Feb. 11, 2013, at Franklin Oaks Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Louisburg.

Born in Warren County, she was daughter of the late Gideon Hunt Miller and Thurmutis Loyd Miller.

Ayscue was a retired seamstress. She was one of Jehovah’s Witnesses attending the Louisburg English Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses.

A memorial service will be held Thursday, Feb. 14, 2013, at 3 p.m., at The Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 1210 Mays Crossroads Road, Franklinton, conducted by Elder Kirk Taylor III. A private graveside service will be held at Sunset Gardens.

Surviving are her husband of 64 years, James Franklin Ayscue; three daughters, Wanda A. Foster and Deborah A. McGhee, both of Henderson, and Dawn A. Brantley of Wake Forest; a brother, Kenneth T. Miller of Rocky Mount; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, G.H. “Junior” Miller Jr.

The family will receive friends today, from 7-8:30 p.m., at Flowers Funeral Home. All other times, they will be at the home of Wanda and Donny Foster, 649 Lake View Road, Henderson.

Flowers will be accepted; or memorials may be made to Hospice of Wake County, 250 Hospice Circle, Raleigh, NC 27607.

Jerl M. Branch Jr.

HENDERSON — Jerl McDonald Branch Jr., 37, of 609 Orange St., Henderson, died Sunday, Feb. 10, 2013, at his residence.

He was born in Vance County, on April 23, 1975, to Shirley Mae Branch Jones and the late Jerl McDonald Jones.

He joined Mt. Calvary Holy Church at an early age and attended Vance County Schools. He was employed as a driver for ST Wooten Construction Company.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, Feb. 14, 2013, at 1 p.m., at Progressive Faith Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. John Miles officiating. Interment will follow in Blacknall Cemetery.

Survivors include: his wife, Theresa Evans Branch of the home; two sons: Ty’Quan Branch and Michael Miles, both of Henderson; two daughters: Victoria Hawkins and Taniqua Evans, both of Henderson; his mother, Shirley Mae Branch Jones of Henderson; his grandmother; two sisters: Annette Jones of Henderson  and Trasheda Mason of Fayetteville; three brothers: Jeffrey Jones, Kevin Jones and Timothy Pettaway, all of Henderson; and five granchildren.

Viewing will be held today, from 3-6 p.m., at the funeral home and at the church one hour prior to the service.

The family is receiving friends at the residence.

HENDERSON — Laura Chavis, 87, of 326 Whitten Ave., Henderson, died Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2013, at her residence.

Helen H. Hicks

CREEDMOOR — Helen Holmes Hicks, 81, a longtime resident of Granville County, died at the home of her daughter, Monday, Feb. 11, 2013.

A native of Franklin County, she was the widow of William Taylor Hicks and the daughter of the late Bruce and Ina Evans Holmes. She was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church and worked at Lee Dyeing in Butner for over 20 years and later worked at Avnet.

Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, Feb. 14, 2013, at 2 p.m., at Mt. Zion Baptist Church by the Rev. Keith Williams and the Rev. Eddie Mauldin. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Survivors include: four daughters, Robbie Manning of Providence, Lynn Moss of Jacksonville, Fla., Betsy Edwards of Myrtle Beach, S.C., and Sherri Wheeler of Oxford; a sister, Edith Pope of Creedmoor; two granddaughters; three grandsons; one great-granddaughter; and three great-grandsons. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Carlton Holmes.

Flowers will be accepted and memorials may be made to Mt. Zion Baptist Church, 1171 Highway 158, Oxford, NC 27565.

Visitation will take place Thursday, Feb. 14, 2013, from 12:30-2 p.m., prior to the service in the Fellowship Hall of Mt. Zion Baptist Church and at other times at the home of her daughter, Sherri Wheeler.

KITTRELL — Connie Jean Rogers Robertson. 66, of 1181 North Chavis Road, Kittrell, died Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2013, at Maria Parham Medical Center in Henderson.
