Daisy O. Cooper

HENDERSON — Daisy Odessa Cooper, 66, of 202 Lulu Landing, Henderson, died Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013, at Kerr Lake Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Henderson.

She was born in Vance County and was the daughter of the late Ernest and Louise Crews Cooper.

She was educated in the Vance County Public Schools and joined Cooke Chapel AME Zion Church at an early age. She served as the missionary president, V.A.M.S. coordinator, Lay Council, and was on the conference committee for many years. She worked as a dietician at Maria Parham Hospital for many years before retirement.

Funeral service will be Friday, Feb. 8, 2013, at 2 p.m., at Red Bud Missionary Baptist Church by the Rev. Clarence Lemay. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery.

Survivors include two sons, Fredrick Cooper of Honolulu, Hawaii, Patrick Cooper, of Wake Forest; two sisters, Eva Cooper of Brooklyn, N.Y., Patricia Matthews of New Bern; two brothers, Charles Crews of Philadelphia, Pa., Ernest Cooper of Dallas, Texas; and 10 grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the resident. The body will be on view Thursday, Feb. 7, 2013, from 11 a.m.-6 p.m., and at the church one hour before the service. Online condolences may be expressed at Davis Royster.com.

Thomas E. Pierce

HENDERSON — Thomas Edward Pierce went to be with his Heavenly Father on Sunday, Feb. 3, 2013, in Henderson.
He was born on Sept. 20, 1933, to Margaret and Joseph Pierce in Appomattox, Va. He was preceded in death by a son, Thomas Duffy Pierce.

He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Virginia Holt Pierce; daughters, Cynthia P. Ramsey of Henderson and Cheryl P. Pittman and husband, Ronald Pittman, of Henderson; a son, Michael T. Pierce Sr. and wife, Lisa Pierce, of Harrisburg, Va.; as well as nine grandchildren; Crystal B. Hunt, Wendy P. Vaughan and husband, J-ME Vaughan, Chasity A. Lassiter and husband, Jamie Lassiter, Michael Pierce Jr., Tyler Pierce, Dakota Pierce and Troy Pierce. In addition, there are 10 great-grandchildren: Katlyn and Jason Hunt; Erica, Sterling and Seth Bullock; Jamie and Lauryn Vaughan; and Eric, Trinity and Addyson Lassiter.

A memorial service and celebration of his life will be held Saturday, Feb. 9, 2013, at 2 p.m., at South Henderson Church of God, 125 J. P. Taylor Road, Henderson, where he was a member; officiated by the Rev. Gary Harper and Pastor Rhonda Pulley.

Family will receive family and friends at the home of Cheryl and Ronald Pittman, 1079 Eaves Road, Henderson, in the Epsom community. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for contributions to be made to the youth ministries at South Henderson Church of God and South Henderson Pentecostal Holiness Church.

Alfloyd Kearney

HENDERSON — Alfloyd “JaBo” Kearney, 67, of 606 Vicksboro Road, Henderson, died Sunday, Feb. 3, 2013, at Maria Parham Medical Center in Henderson. He was born Dec. 17, 1945, in Warren County, to the late Boyd and Winnie Davis Kearney.

At an early age, he attended Coley Springs Baptist Church. He was educated in Warren County Public Schools and graduated from John R. Hawkins High School, Class of 1966.

Funeral services will bc held Saturday, Feb. 9, 2013, at 2 p.m., at Coley Springs Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Matthew Hodges officiating, interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Survivors include his wife: Margaret Milord Kearney; two daughters: Linda Seepersad of Kissimmee, Fla., and Charlene DeGuzman of Long Island, N.Y.; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and one brother, Gene E. Kearney of Laurel, Md.

A viewing will be held Friday, Feb. 8, 2013, from noon-6 p.m., at the funeral home and at the church one hour prior to the service.

The family is receiving friends at the residence.

Larry O. Marlin

WARRENTON — Larry Oneal Marlin, 72, died Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2013, at Maria Parham Medical Center in Henderson.
He was a Durham native, born to the late Robert and Rachel Lee Marlin.

He was the owner/operator of Chesapeake Enterprises/Clog Busters a plumbing and remodeling contractor. He served in the U.S. Navy and spent his free time boating and flying.

The Rev. Eric Schubert will conduct funeral services Saturday, Feb. 9, 2013, at 11 a.m., at Providence United Methodist Church with burial to follow in Warren Plains Memorial Gardens.

He is survived by his wife, Bridget Shea Marlin; his daughter, Robin Marlin of Jasper, Ga.; his sisters, Laura Faye Thompson of Carrolton, Va., and Barbara Elaine Morgan of Livonia, Mich.; and his brothers, Stenson Duke Lee of Clayton and Bob Marlin of Warrenton.

Pallbearers will be Steve Phillips, Andrew Marlin, Alan Bolton, Chi Nyugen, Stenson Lee, Jerry Bolton and Brad Morgan.
There will be a rosary service Friday, Feb. 8, 2013, beginning at 5 p.m., followed by a visitation, from 6-7:30 p.m., at Blaylock Funeral Home in Warrenton.

Mary E. Parrish

MOUNT VERNON, N.Y. — Mary Elizabeth Parrish, of Mount Vernon, N.Y., died Jan. 30, 2013, at Mount Vernon Hospital in Mount Vernon, N.Y.

Born in Vance County, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Lizzie Baskerville Jones.

She lived her adult life in New York and worked for many years as a private domestic engineer.

Chapel service will be Saturday, Feb. 9, 2013, at 11 a.m., in the chapel of Davis-Royster Funeral Service by the Rev. Cora Boyd. Burial will follow in Blacknall Cemetery.

Survivors includes nieces and nephews. Body will be on view Friday, Feb. 8, 2013, at the funeral home, from noon-5 p.m.

HENDERSON — Virginia M. Smith, 83, formerly of Meadowview Terrace, Clarksville, Va., died Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2013, at Kindred Nursing and Rehabilitation Center of Henderson.
