Wilma B. Russell

CLARKSVILLE, Va. — Mrs. Wilma “Billie” Ruth Blaetz Russell was born Feb. 12, 1921, in Philadelphia, Pa., to the late Henry Louis and Margaret M. Eggers Blaetz.

She is the widow of George Howard Russell. Wilma graduated from Haddonfield Memorial High School in Haddonfield, N.J., and received a bachelor’s degree in home economics from Drexel University in Philadelphia, Pa. She began her teaching career in home economics in New Jersey, continuing her career for many years at Sterling High School in Somerdale, N.J., until moving to help open Eastern Regional High School in Voorhees, N.J., where she taught until her retirement in 1982.

Upon retirement she and her husband moved to their dream home, which they had custom built on Kerr Lake in Clarksville, Va.

On Dec. 11, 2012, Mrs. Russell passed away at MeadowView Terrace in Clarksville, Va. Family surviving Wilma are her son, Mark H. Russell of Wampum, Pa.; her daughter-in-law, June Williams Russell of Tabernacle, N.J.; a grandson, Brent O. Russell of Los Angeles, Calif.; and a granddaughter, Courtney E. Russell of Owings Mills, Md. Her son, Bruce M. Russell, preceded her in death.

KITTRELL — Sallie M. Foster, 43, of 266 Kittrell St., Henderson, died Thursday, Dec. 13, 2012, at Maria Parham Medical Center in Henderson.

The family is receiving friends at the home of Julia Foster Leak, 228 Peachtree St., Henderson.

John W. Hargrove

HENDERSON — John William Hargrove, 77, of 365 Dick Faines Road, in the Williamsboro community, died Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2012, at Maria Parham Medical Center in Henderson.

He was born in Vance County on April 2, 1935, to the late Johnnie Moses and Rosabell Jefferson.

He joined Oak Level United Church of Christ at a later age in life.

He was employed with Roses Stores, where he retired.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, Dec. 16, 2012, at 2 p.m., at Oak Level United Church of Christ with Pastor Leon White officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Ernestine Hargrove, children: John William Hargrove Jr., Frances D. Hargrove, Brian Hargrove of Suffolk, Va.; five grandchildren; six brothers: James E. Brown, John O. Hargrove, Theodore Hargrove and David Hargrove, all of Henderson, James Hargrove of Tennessee, and James Hargrove of Virginia; two sisters: Barbara Hargrove and Peggy Hargrove, both of Henderson.
Viewing will be held today, from 11:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m., at the funeral home and at the church one hour prior to the service.

The family is receiving friends at the residence.

Deonte Malik “Diego” Judkins

HENDERSON — Deonte Malik “Diego” Judkins, 16, of 212 Lowery St., died Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2012, at Maria Parham Medical Center in Henderson.

He was born in Vance County, Oct. 13, 1996, to Haison Fields and Chastity Street.

He attended school in the Vance County School System and was a member of the Northern Vance High School Football Team.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, Dec. 16, 2012, at 1 p.m., at Progressive Faith Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Seamon Rice officiating.

Survivors include his parents: Chastity Street of Henderson and Haison Fields of Nashville, Tenn.; five brothers: Chaquan, Tyler Judkins, Nykel Street, Jahlil Fritz and Kaleb Perry, all of Henderson.

Viewing will be held today, from 11:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m., at the funeral home and at the church one hour prior to the service.

Christopher C. Karbas

WARRENTON — Christopher Clay Karbas, 46, died Thursday, Dec. 13, 2012, at his residence. He is preceded in death by his parents, Robert Joseph Karbas and Linda Ann Collins Karbas.

The Rev. Jerry Davidson will conduct funeral services at 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2012, at Blaylock Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery in Warrenton.
Chris is survived by his wife, Donna Karbas; children, Clay and Mike; brothers, Robert Karbas Jr., John Kiner and Jason Kiner; and one grandchild, Hailey.

The family will receive friends Monday, Dec. 17, 2012, from 7-8:30 p.m., at Blaylock Funeral Home.

Irvy Loyd

HENDERSON — Irvy Loyd, 84, a resident of 822 Eastside Drive, died Thursday, Dec. 13, 2012, at his home.

Born on Oct. 7, 1928, in Granville County, he was the son of the late Lonnie Leonidas Loyd and Mattie Pendergrass Loyd. He was a retired co-owner of Loyd Plumbing Company, and was a member of North Henderson Baptist Church.

Graveside services will be held Sunday, Dec. 16, 2012, at 2 p.m., at Elmwood Cemetery by the Rev. Brent Kasey.

He is survived by one daughter, Ruby Harris of Henderson; one brother, Paul Loyd, of Oxford; one sister, Nellie Vaughan of Oxford; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Bentley Loyd.

The family will receive friends today, from 7-8:30 p.m., at J.M. White Funeral Home. At other times they will be at the home.

Margaret H. Satterwhite

STOVALL — Margaret Carolyn Hart Satterwhite, 68, a longtime resident of Granville County, died Thursday, Dec. 13, 2012, at Duke Medical Center in Durham.

A native of Granville County, she was the daughter of the late Roy Cooper and Helen Floyd Parham Hart. She was a member of Stovall Baptist Church where she was a Sunday School teacher, deacon and served on many committees in several capacites. She was a retired cafeteria manager for Granville County Schools and a homemaker.

Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, Dec. 16, 2012, at 2 p.m., at Stovall Baptist Church by the Rev. Eddie Mauldin and the Rev. Wayne Clark. Burial will be in Meadowview Memorial Park in Oxford.

Surviving are two daughters, Lisa Satterwhite Proctor of Oxford and Deborah Satterwhite of Essex, Md.; three sons, David Satterwhite of Oxford, Doug Satterwhite of Henderson and Thomas Satterwhite of Alpharetta, Ga.; and 10 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy B. Currin; and a brother, Dennis O’Brien.

Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Stovall Baptist Church (Fellowship Hall), PO Box 188, Stovall, NC 27582.

Visitation will be held today, from 7-8:30 p.m., at the Eakes Funeral Home in Oxford and at other times at the home of Lisa Proctor.
