George C. Downey

HENDERSON — George Collin “G.C.” Downey, 73, a resident of 100 Laurie Ball Road, Henderson, died Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2012, at Hock Family Pavilion in Durham.

He was born to the parentage of the late Collin Downey and Lucille Comer Downey.

Survivors include: two daughters, Karen A. Simms of Simpsonville, S.C., and Kathy A. Metellus of Monsey, N.Y.; two sons, George Gregory Downey of Nanuet, N.Y., and James E. McCampbell of Hinesville, Ga.; two sisters, Esther D. Latta of Washington, D.C., and Carolyn D. Evans of Henderson; 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, Dec. 16, 2012, at 11 a.m., in the Betts & Son Funeral Home Chapel with a eulogy delivered by the Rev. Leroy S. Anderson. Interment will follow in the New Jonathan Creek Church Cemetery.

Viewing will be Saturday, Dec. 15, 2012, from 11 a.m.-6 p.m., at the funeral home.

The family will be receiving friends at the residence.

John Hargrove

HENDERSON — John Hargrove, 77, of 365 Dick Faines Road, Henderson, died Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2012, at Maria Parham Medical Center in Henderson.

Deonte M. Judkins

HENDERSON — Deonte Malik Judkins, 16, of 212 Lowery St., Henderson, died Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2012, at Maria Parham Medical Center.
The family is receiving friends at the home of Ms. Barbara Judkins, 153 S. Bullock St., Henderson.

Ernestine J. Joyner

OXFORD — Ernestine Jett Joyner, 66, a resident of 318 Granville St., Oxford, died Monday, Dec. 10, 2012, at UNC Cancer Center in Chapel Hill. She was the daughter of Esther Morgan Jett and the late James Jett of Catawba County.

She was an attorney and respected civil activist.

She is survived by her husband, the Rev. Lacy L. Joyner; a daughter, Jocelyn J. Simmons of Snellville, Ga.; a son, Lacy L. Joyner Jr. of Greensboro; a mother, Esther Morgan Jett of Hickory; two sisters, Nellie Cole of Flint, Mich., and Joyce Jett of Hickory; five brothers, Jason Jett of New York, N.Y., Jarrell Jett of Hickory, Nathaniel Jett of Columbus, S.C., James Jett Jr. of High Point and Jerome Jett of Hermitage, Tenn.; and two grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, Dec. 15, 2012, at noon, at First Baptist Church by the Rev. Edward Davis Jr. Burial will be in Meadview Memorial Park. No public viewing has been requested. Arrangements are by Wright Funeral Home.

James J. Wilson

WARRENTON — James Jones Wilson, 92, of 1143 No Bottom Road in Warrenton, died Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2012, at Maria Parham Medical Center in Henderson .

Funeral services will be conducted Friday, Dec. 14, 2012, at 1 p.m., at Greenwood Baptist Church in Warrenton. The Rev Eddie W. Lawrence, pastor, will officiate and burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Survivors include: his wife, Hattie Marie Wilson of the home; one daughter, Helen Marie Perry of Wyncote, Pa.; one son, Gene Alston Wilson of the home; three granddaughters; four great-grandchildren; one sister, Clementine Price of Clinton, Md.; and one brother, Willie G. Wilson of Warrenton.

The body will be on view today, from 11 a.m.-7 p.m., at Boyd’s Funeral Services Chapel in Warrenton.
