William L. Fleming Jr.

HENDERSON — William Lewis “Bill” Fleming, Jr., died Saturday, April 20, 2013.

Born in Vance County on Aug. 21, 1936, he was the son of the late William L. Fleming and Elsie Aycock Fleming. Bill graduated from Duke University in 1958, and was a life member of The Iron Dukes. He was a former owner of Henderson Fruit & Produce. He served on the Vance County Board of Commissioners for 20 years, serving as chairman in 1988, 199, and 1997. Since his retirement, he often co-hosted Town Talk and the Sport Talk on WIZS Radio. He was a member of Shocco United Methodist Church in Vicksboro.

A memorial service was held Tuesday, April 23, 2013, at 11 a.m., at Shocco United Methodist Church by the Rev. Eric Shubert and the Rev. Dr. Ronald S. Cava.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Jane Link Fleming of the home; three daughters, Angel Lynne Fleming Biswas and husband, Robert, of Miami, Fla., Dawn Fleming McDonald and husband, Michael, of Goldsboro, and April Fleming Starling and husband, David, of New York, N.Y.; and four grandchildren, Harper Biswas, Lila Biswas, Will McDonald and Eyler Starling.

The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the fellowship hall of Shocco United Methodist Church and at other times at the home on Beechwood Trail.

Serving as honorary pall bearers were Wayne Adcock, Julius Banzet, III, Thomas Buchanan Sr., Dr. Rodwell Drake, Lacy Fleming, Merle Fleming, Robert E. Fleming, Robert F. Fleming, Tommy Greenway, Johnnie Haithcock, Tom Hannon, John Link, Dr. Richard Noel, Dr. Beverly Tucker and Charles White.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to the Vance County Relay For Life, P.O. Box 914, Henderson, NC. 27536.

Mary C. Bobbit

HENDERSON — Minister Mary Clark Bobbit, 89, of 330 Julia St., Henderson, died April 20, 2013 at Kerr Lake Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Born in Vance County, she was the daughter of the late Sandy and Rosa Anna Turner Clark.

At an early age, she joined Ashley Grove Baptist Church and later moved to Durham, where she joined New Covenant Holy Church. After returning to Henderson, she rejoined Ashley Grove Baptist Church where she was the associate minister, mother of the church, and a member of the gospel choir.

Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, April 25, 2013, at 1 p.m., at Ashley Grove Baptist Church by the Rev. Perry Sharp. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Survivors include one son, Robert L. Spruill Jr. of Durham; two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.

The family is receiving friends at the residence of the Rev. and Mrs. Otha Wimbush, 230 Turner Ave., Henderson. The body will be on view at the funeral home today, starting at 1:30 p.m.

Annie B. Bush

MANSON — Annie B. Bush, 100, of 1485 Wilson Brothers Road in Manson, died Monday, April 22, 2013, at her residence.

Leslie Dickerson

HENDERSON — Leslie Dickerson, 44, of Henderson, died Monday, April 15, 2013.

Dickerson attained her GED at Vance-Granville Community College. She had been employed with Harriet & Henderson Yarns-North Henderson Plant, Golden Corral, Royal Home Fashions, Carolina Fabrics and Western Sizzlin’.

Survivors include: her daughter, Tasitha Dickerson, and son, Christopher Burwell Jr., both of the home; her father, Linwood Lee Stokes; and two brothers, David Ashley Stokes and Roger Dale Moss.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Shirley Poulins Losuon Moss Stokes.

Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, April 25, 2013, at 1 p.m., at True Faith in Christ Worship Center, 143 S. Williams St., Henderson.

Arrangements are by Lori Chappell Funeral Home in Henderson.

James Guess Jr.

CHAPEL HILL — James Guess Jr., 54, a resident of 213 Maple Drive, Oxford, died Wednesday, April 17, 2013, at UNC Hospital, in Chapel Hill.

He was born to the parentage of the late James Guess Sr. and Rosa Lee Guess.

Guess was a professional barber.

Survivors include; one sister, Tammy Guess of Oxford; and seven brothers, Larry Holloway, Robert Guess and William Guess, all of Durham, and Barry Guess, Ben Guess, Bobby Guess and Wayne Guess, all of Oxford.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 27, 2013, at 2 p.m., in the Betts & Son Funeral Home Chapel with a eulogy delivered by the Rev. Danny UpChurch.

There will be no public viewing.

The family will receive friends at the home of his sister, Tammy Guess, at 213 Maple Drive, Apt. B, Oxford.

Services are by Betts & Son Funeral Home in Oxford.

WARRENTON — Erin Dennis “Bodillie” Hargrove, 57, of Warrenton, died Saturday, April 13, 2013 at his residence.

Graveside services were conducted Tuesday, April 23, 2013, at 2 p.m., at Hargrove Family Cemetery in Macon. The Rev. Lewis Galloway will officiate.

Survivors include: one daughter, Erica Milam of Warrenton; and three grandchildren.
