Blanca Vivas-Rodrigues

HENDERSON — Blanca Vivas-Rodrigues, 2, passed away Friday, April 5, 2013.

Blanca is the granddaughter of Maria Vivas, who raised her. She has one brother, “Little” Markus Vivas.

A private funeral will be held at Lori Chappell’s Funeral Home Chapel, located on the basement floor at the funeral home Friday, April 12, 2013, at 1:30 p.m. The burial will follow at Blacknall Cemetery.

Services are by Lori Chappell’s Funeral Home.

Ernestine Williams

GRANVILLE COUNTY — Ms. Earnestine “Lou Lou” Williams, 51, of Granville County a native of Westchester, N.Y., passed away Sunday, April 7, 2013, at UNC Memorial Hospital in Chapel Hill due to a lengthy illness.

She was the daughter of the late Maude and Merlin Williams and the birth daughter of Mary Justice.

Earnestine was a 1981 graduate of J.F. Webb Sr. High School. She worked several jobs but her love was being a certified nursing assistant where she loved helping others.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, April 14, 2013, at 2 p.m., in the chapel of Allen’s Home of Funerals.

Family will be receiving friends at the homes of Joann Williams, 4706 Antioch Road, Oxford; and Mrs. Mary Justice, 283 Axtell Ridgeway Road, Warrenton.

Allen’s Home of Funerals is assisting the Williams family.

OXFORD — James A. Bradley, formerly of Oxford, died Friday, April 5, 2013, after a long battle with cancer.

Survivors include: his wife, Janet of the home; his father, James L. Bradley; sisters, Janet Trivett of Berea and Brandy Bradley, both of Goldsboro; and a brother, Harold Bradley of Wise.

Those preceding him in death include: his mother, Ruth Bradley.

HENDERSON — Annie Esther Wilson Champion, 73, of 220 Brame Road, Henderson, died Wednesday, April 10, 2013, at her residence.

The family will receive friends at the residence.

Arrangements will be announced by Davis-Royster Funeral Service.

George M. Greenwood

GREENBELT, Md. — George M. Greenwood died Friday, April 5, 2013.

Survivors include: his sons, George Roderick and Jeffrey Neil Greenwood; brothers, John and Otis Greenwood Sr.; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Visitation will take place Friday, April 12, 2013, from 10-11 a.m., at Redeeming Life Ministries International, in Port Tobacco, Maryland. Services are by Briscoe-Tonic Funeral Home in Maryland.

Services will also be held Monday, April 15, 2013, at 11 a.m., at Huntsville Baptist Church in Oxford. Interment will follow in the Church cemetery.

A viewing is scheduled for Sunday, April 14, 2013, from 1-6 p.m., at the funeral home.

The family will receive friends Monday, from 10-11 a.m., one hour prior to the service.

Jerry L. Mosley

HENDERSON — Jerry Louis Mosley, 56, of 728 Cardinal Drive, Henderson, NC died Wednesday, April 10, 2013, at his home.

Born in Nash County, he was the son of Betty Lou Walker Mosley of the home and the late Louis Christmas Mosley.

He was a former employee of Harriet & Henderson Yarns Inc. He attended Crystal River Church of God.

A graveside funeral service will be held Friday, April 12, 2013, at 2 p.m., at Sunset Gardens, conducted by the Rev. Charles Ray Anderson.

Surviving, in addition to his mother, are two sisters, Ruth M. Gibson of Henderson and Jewel M. Brooks of Oxford; and two brothers, Kenneth V. Mosley and Ricky D. Mosley, both of Henderson.

The family will receive friends at the home, 728 Cardinal Drive, Henderson.

Patricia R. Davis

OXFORD — Patricia Rigsbee Davis, 73, a resident of 202 Terry Circle, Clarksville, Va., died Saturday, April 6, 2013, at Halifax Regional Hospital in South Boston, Va. She was a native of Durham, the daughter of the late Percy Obie Rigsbee and Mary Ruth Evans.

A memorial service will be conducted Saturday, April 13, 2013, at 1 p.m., at Wright Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. J. Eric Morgan. Burial will be in Carolina Memorial Gardens.

She is survived by a daughter, Kimberly Marquis of Stone Mountain, Ga.; and three sisters, Jean Bradley, Rosiland Lyon and Lethia Lyon, all of Creedmoor.

James W. Taborn

OXFORD — James Willard Taborn, 91, a resident of Uni Health Acute Care in Durham, and a native of Granville County, died Tuesday, April 9, 2013, at Duke Medical Center.

Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, April 14, 2013, at 2 p.m., at Olive Grove Baptist Church by the Rev. Mack Timberlake. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

A viewing will take place Saturday, April 13, 2013, from 11 a.m.-5 p.m., at Wright Funeral Home.

Mary F. Alston

HENDERSON — Mary Louise Foster Alston, 85, of 293 Oak Hill Loop Road, Henderson, died Tuesday, April 9, 2013, at her residence.

She was born in Franklin County on Feb. 25, 1928, to the late Johnny and Sallie Young Green Foster.

She was educated in Franklin County Public Schools. At an early age, she was baptized and joined Haywood Missionary Baptist Church, where she served on the usher board, the Pastor’s Aide Committee, the Communion Committee and the Golden Age.

She was employed with Guardian Care Nursing Home, Americal, Sugar and Spice Day Care, BP Gas Station, and she retired from Tastee Freeze.

In addition to her husband, Walter Lee Alston, and her parents, she was preceded in death by eight brothers: John Edward, James Arthur, Louis, Willie, Ernest, William, Eddie and Freddie.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 13, 2013, at 11 a.m., at Haywood Missionary Baptist Church, with Pastor Douglas Harris officiating and Evangelist Shirley Turrentine presiding. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Survivors include five daughters: Barbara Royster and Sarah Ashe, both of Henderson, Annette Alston and Brenda Blanton, both of Washington, D.C., and Annie Allen of Edgewood, Md.; six sons: James Alston, Melvin Alston and Walter Jones, all of Henderson, Johnny Alston and Walter Alston, both of Washington, D.C., and Wallace Alston of Fairfax, Va.; one brother, Joseph Foster of Henderson; 28 grandchildren; 48 great-grandchildren; and five great-great grandchildren.

A viewing will take place Friday, April 12, 2013, from noon-6 p.m., at the funeral home and at the church one hour prior to the service.

Nadine Dortch

HENDERSON — Nadine Dortch, 61, of 550 W. Andrews Ave., Henderson, died Monday, April 8, 2013, at her residence.

She was born Nov. 30, 1951, to the late Lasal Dortch and Grace Dunston Dortch in Passaic, N.J.

She was educated in Vance County Public Schools.

At an early age she joined Shiloh Baptist Church in Kittrell, and later she attended Mt. Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church.

She was employed with the former J.P. Taylor Tobacco Company, Americal Corporation and Arthur Thompson Tobacco Company.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 13, 2013, at 2 p.m., at Mt. Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Richard Henderson, pastor, officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Survivors include: one daughter, Wanda Dortch of Henderson; two sons: Dornell Dortch of Henderson and Cornell Dortch of the home; one brother, Michael Dortch of Henderson; and six grandchildren.

HENDERSON — Estelle Jefferson Terry, 66, of 501 Red Clay Lane, Henderson, died Thursday, April 4, 2013, at her residence.

She was born in Vance County on Jan. 14, 1947, to the late Ned Jefferson and Pearl Hawkins Jefferson.

Funeral services will be held Friday, April 12, 2013, at 2 p.m., at Antioch United Church of Christ, with Bishop Ralphel Holloman officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Survivors include three daughters: Pattie Hayes, Kim Burwell and Sandra Griffin; two sons: Thomas William Terry and Christopher Griffin; three sisters: Ellen J. Williams, Patricia J. Martin and Beatrice J. Champion; six brothers: Ned Jefferson, Robert Jefferson, Alfred Jefferson, Rosevelt Jefferson, Ricky Jefferson and John Jefferson; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
