Mary T. Huff
RALEIGH — Mary Alice Thaxton Huff, 71, a lifetime resident of Granville County, passed away Monday, May 13, 2013, at Rex Hospital in Raleigh.
She was a native of Granville County, the daughter of the late Clarence Clyde and Elsie Gray Thomas Thaxton. She was a member of Providence Baptist Church and retired after 31 years of service with Northern Telecom in Creedmoor. She was a devoted wife, mother and “NaNa” to all her grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m., Thursday, May 16, 2013, in the Eakes Funeral Chapel in Oxford by the Rev. Frank Sossamon and the Rev. Sam Brewer. Burial will be in Providence Baptist Church Cemetery.
Surviving are her husband of 48 years, Alfred Ray Huff of the home; two daughters, Sandra K. Currin (Ronnie) of Henderson and Brenda F. Faucette of Bullock; two granddaughters, Marie D. Adcock and Monica Jane Faucette; three grandsons, Jonathan B. Pulley, Adam T. Pulley and Matt B. Faucette; a special nephew, Keith Huff; and her loving dog, Angel. She was preceded in death by a son, Willie Winston Henley Jr.

Visitation will be held Thursday, May 16, 2013, from noon-1:45 p.m., prior to the funeral, at the Eakes Funeral Home in Oxford and at other times at the home.

Florence B. Kohl
HENDERSON — Florence Bucknavage Kohl died Sunday, May 12, 2013, at her home in Henderson.
She was born May 5, 1940, to the late Alex and Anna Pivinski Bucknavage of Wilkes-Barre, Pa. She was preceded in death by her parents as well as brothers Martin and Alex Jr.
Florence is survived by her daughter, Sharon Laurenzano (Mark) and son, David Kohl (Rose) of Wilkes-Barre, Pa., and loving husband, Paul Kohl of Ashley, Pa.; her sister, Helen Jowanna of Jacksonville, Fla.; her brother, John of Wilkes-Barre, Pa; half-sister, Rosemary Washilla of Plains, Pa., and several nieces and nephews.

William R. Bernhardt
HILTON HEAD, S.C. — Col. William Richard Bernhardt, 83, of Port Royal Plantation, Hilton Head Island, S.C., died Thursday, May 9, 2013, in Hilton Head, S.C.
A native of New Jersey, he was the son of the late William and Edna Cook Bernhardt. He advanced to the rank of life scout in The Boy Scouts of America and junior assistant scout master in both Troops 49 and 85. A graduate of Red Bank High School, Red Bank, N.J., he attended The University of Indiana and the European Branch of The University of Maryland while on active duty; and held degrees from The University of South Carolina, Columbia, S.C. He earned a master’s degree from the Army’s Command and General Staff College on July 13, 1970.
He retired for medical reasons as a regular Army finance corps officer after 27 years. As a veteran of World War II, Korea and Vietnam, he received numerous awards and decorations, including The Legion of Merit, Bronze Star, World War II Victory Medal, Korean Defense Service Medal and Vietnam Medal for Gallantry.
His volunteer work (post-military career) included serving as an Internal Revenue Service income tax preparer; board member of The Tennis Association of Hilton Head and The Patron’s Foundation; and as a citizen volunteer in the Beaufort County Sheriff’s office in 1996 on Hilton Head Island. Life memberships included the American Legion, Disabled American Veteran’s Non-commissioned Officer’s Association, The Society of U.S. Army Finance Corps Officer’s and Veteran’s of Foreign Wars, and The United States Tennis Association.
Survivors include: his son, David Adams Bernhardt of Hilton Head Island, S.C.; two sisters, Edna B. Barrett of Clinton, Maine, and Nancy B. Winslow of Beverly Hills, Fla.; and one grandson. He is predeceased by his wife of 61 years, Anne Burwell Bernhardt; a son, William R. Bernhardt Jr.; and one brother, Warren P. Bernhardt.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday, May 17, 2013, at 2 p.m., in the Eakes Funeral Chapel in Oxford by the Rev. Allen Koeneke and following the service with full military honors at Elmwood Cemetery.

BULLOCK — Lorenza Griffin Hicks, 57, a resident of 8559 Tudy Drive, Bullock, died Sunday, May 12, 2013, at her home. She was the daughter of the late Walter C. Griffin and Lillie Jones Griffin.
Survivors include: her husband, Leonard L. Hicks; six sisters, Barbara J. Terry and Sylvia Griffin, both of Bullock, Mary Monk, Greensboro, Luetta S. Brummell, Clarksville, Va., Gora L. Bailey and Pearl V. Skipwith, both of Washington, D.C.; and three brothers, Clarence Griffin, Bullock, and Willie Griffin and Floyd Griffin, both of Oxford.
Funeral services will be conducted today, at 2 p.m., at Baptist Grove Baptist Church by the Rev. Ollie Ellison. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
A viewing took place Tuesday, from 11 a.m.-7 p.m., at Wright Funeral Home.
Margaret B. Huff
OXFORD — Margaret Bumpass Huff died Tuesday, May 14, 2013.
She was a native of Granville County and was the daughter of the late Wiley P. and Julia Timberlake Bumpass. She was preceded in death by her husband, Baxter E. Huff. She was a member of Sharon Baptist Church and worked as a homemaker for her husband and children.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, May 16, 2013, at 2 p.m., at Sharon Baptist Church by the Rev. Vernon Wilkerson and the Rev. Billy Lynch. Burial will be at Person Memorial Cemetery in Roxboro.
Surviving are her daughter, Doris Huff McGlothlin of Springfield, Mo.; her sons, Roy N. Huff of Roxboro and Ray B. Huff of Oxford; her sister, Elizabeth Wilkerson of Oxford; nine grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, Frances Bumpass Daniel, and a brother, Robert Bumpass.
The family will receive friends today, from 7:-8:30 p.m., at Gentry-Newell Funeral Home. At other times they will be at the home of Ray and Ruth Huff, 7021 Goshen Road, Oxford.

HENDERSON — Charlie Sidney Malone, 86, of 155 Elsie St., Henderson, died Tuesday, May 14, 2013, at Maria Parham Medical Center in Henderson.

CREEDMOOR — Edoua Mary Walker, 64, a resident of 2783 Clifton Ave., Creedmoor, died Sunday, May 12, 2013, at her home.
