Bertha B. Bishop
NORLINA — Miss Bertha Blanch Bishop passed away on Tuesday, May 7, 2013, at Warren Hills Nursing Center. She was born Aug. 13, 1927, in Henderson, the only child of the late Robert Elijah and Mattie Gupton Bishop of Norlina, she was also preceded in death by a special cousin, Pattie Bolton. She graduated from Norlina High School and attended Elon College and was a member of Norlina Baptist Church.
Billy Fuller will conduct funeral services with Mrs. Lois Hawks assisting reading scripture at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 10, 2013, at Blaylock Funeral Home with burial to follow in Warren Dale Cemetery in Norlina.
She is survived by her cousins, Hallie Wheeler of Butner, Betty Rooker of Norlina, Jo Harp of Henderson and Marie Wortham of Portsmouth, Va.; and their families.

Kathleen B. Walker
BULLOCK — Kathleen Brooks Walker, age 89, died Monday, May 6, 2013, at her home at Buckhorn Spring Farm in Bullock.
A native of Person County, she was the daughter of the late Henry Thomas and Lissie Long Brooks and widow of the late Robert Lee Walker.
Kathleen was a member of Bullock Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be conducted today, at 11 a.m., at Bullock Baptist Church by the Rev. Tony Futrell. Burial will follow in the Royster Cemetery in Bullock. The family will receive friends at the home.
Surviving are; a son, Steven Brooks Walker of Bullock; daughters, Barbara W. Twisdale (Stan) of Bullock, Nancy W. Reese (David) of Townsville and Kathy L. Walker of Bullock; and one brother, John M. Brooks of Baltimore, Md. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, Brian Reese (Jennifer), Dale Reese (Sandy), Laura Matthews (Brad), Timothy Twisdale (Amanda) and Kimberly Vincitorio (Michael) Anna Cottrell and Erin Cottrell; and nine great-grandchildren, Alexis Reese, Avery Reese, Carson Reese, Meredith Reese, Madelyn Reese, Tyler Matthews, Hannah Twisdale, Abby Kate Twisdale and Michael Vincitorio. She was preceded in death by a brother, Willie Brooks.

David S. Wilkinson
OXFORD — David Scott Wilkinson, age 56, died Wednesday, May 8, 2013, after a brief battle with cancer.
He was the son of Dorothy Gupton Wilkinson and the late George Propus “G.P.” Wilkinson. David was an employee with Ryder Transportation Services for over 36 years. He was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church. He loved to hunt and was a member of Providence Sporting Club. David also coached softball.
Memorial service will be held at Mt. Zion Baptist Church at 2 p.m. on Friday, May 10, 2013, by the Rev. Keith Williams and Dr. Steven Bolton.
Surviving is his wife, Vicki Oakley Wilkinson; his daughter, Lauren Victoria Wilkinson of the home; and a stepson, Steven Robert Light of Washington, D.C.

DURHAM — Sterling “Jack” Hunt, 71, a resident of 107 King St., Oxford, died Saturday, May 4, 2013, at Brian Health & Rehabilitation Center in Durham.
He was born to the parentage of the late Thomas and Hattie Hayes Hunt.
He served in the U.S. Army as a paratrooper in the early 60s as an SP4 and was retired from D.H. Griffin Demolition Company.
Survivors include; one daughter, Sterling “Angie” Hunt of Seattle, Wash.; two sons, Marvin Hunt of Genoa, Ohio, and Thomas Hunt of Oxford; three sisters, Doris Bullock and Deborah Green, both of Oxford, and Vera Hunt of Richmond, Va.; three brothers, James Hunt of the home, and Allen Hunt and Ronnie Hunt, both of Oxford; and 10 grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, May 11, 2013, at 2 p.m., in the Betts & Son Funeral Home Chapel with eulogy delivered by the Rev. Ronnie Green. Interment will follow in Meadowview Memorial Park Cemetery.
A viewing will take place Friday, May 10, 2013, from 11 a.m.-6 p.m., at the Funeral Home.

Kenneth A. Johnson
HENDERSON — Kenneth Alvin Johnson, 48, of 124 Gillburg Estates Court, Henderson, died Tuesday, May 7, 2013, at Maria Parham Medical Center in Henderson.

Clarrine H. Ragland
HENDERSON — Clarrine Hargrove Ragland, 63, of 157 Thorpe St., Henderson, died Sunday, May 5, 2013, at her residence.
She was born in Vance County to Luvenia Evans Wimbush and the late Lonnie Jack Hargrove Jr. on May 8. 1949.
At an early age, she joined Morning Star United Holy Church in Henderson. She taught Sunday School, was a member of the usher board and was a lead singer on the choir. She remained an active member until her health declined.
Ragland was educated in Vance County Public Schools and graduated in 1967 from Henderson Institute in Henderson. She was employed with the former Americal Corporation for 20 years and performed home care until she retired.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Henry Ragland; two sisters: Clementine Williams and Wanda Hargrove; and a brother, Thurman Hargrove.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 11, 2013, at noon, at Morning Star United Holy Church with Elder Shirley Piercy officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
Survivors include: one daughter, Clara Lucette Croslan of Henderson; two sons, Christopher Anthony Ragland of Henderson and William Henry Ragland of Oxford; her mother, Luvenia Evans Wimbush of Henderson; mother-in-law, Leslie Mae Ragland or Henderson; seven sisters, Maxine Pettiford and Kathleen Fisher, both of Henderson, Florence Walker of Roselle, N.J., Shirley Waller of Warrenton, Geraldine Williams of Henderson, and Alma Smith and Ruth Heggie, both of Oxford; eight brothers, Eugene Hargrove, James Hargrove, Kenneth Hargrove and Wilbert Hargrove, all of Henderson, Carl Hargrove of Oxford. Sherwin Hargrove, Jack Hargrove of Roselle, N.J., and Peter Williams Jr. of Henderson; 14 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
A viewing will take place Friday, May 10, 2013, from noon-6 p.m., at the funeral home and at the church one hour prior to the service.

NORLINA — Cortrelle K. Terry, 25, of Norlina, died Sunday, April 21, 2013, at his residence.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, May 11, 2013, at 2 p.m., at First Baptist Church in Soul City. Yovette E. Perkins Brown will officiate.
Survivors include: his mother, Phyllis Hunt of the home; three brothers, Cortei Terry of Ridgeway, Cortraez B. Terry of Rocky Mount and Ronald Hunt Jr. of Beltsville, Md.; two sisters, Lillian Hunt of Beltsville, Md., and Kimberly Griggs of Beltsville, Md.; his maternal grandparents.
Keishanna T. Turner
CHAPEL HILL — Keishanna Tabree Turner, 21, of Henderson, died Monday, May 6, 2013, at UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill.
She was the daughter of Franklin Small and the late Ramona Boyd.
She was educated in Vance County Schools, graduating from Western Vance High School. She was an active member of Full Deliverance Christian Church where she served as an usher.
Survivors included: her father, Franklin Small, one daughter, Kei’ari Hargrove, three sisters, Kinshasha Servin, Larissa Peace and Keianna Boyd; one brother, Quinzel Venable; her maternal grandparents; and her paternal grandfather. She was preceded in death by her mother, Ramona Boyd; and paternal grandmother.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, May 11, 2013, at 1 p.m., at Mount Moriah AMEZ Church, with the Rev. Terry Bristow presiding and a eulogy delivered by Pastor Stacey Parham. Interment will follow in Elmwood Cemetery.
The body will be on view at the church prior to the services.
The family will receive friends at 1634 Stagecoach Road, Henderson. A viewing will take place Friday, May 10, 2013, from 2-8 p.m., at E.C. Terry’s Funeral Service Chapel in Henderson.
