Ferbie W. Davis

HENDERSON — Ferbie Jean Williams Davis of Henderson died Sunday, April 28, 2013, at her home.

The daughter of the late Willie Williams and Annie Lee Williams, she was born Jan. 6, 1950, in Vance County.

Davis was a member of Mt. Zion Christian Church. She married the late John Earl Davis.

Survivors include: four children, John M. Davis, Tracy D. Neal, Stuart J. Davis and Marjorie D. Williams; two sisters, Mary Ruth Williams and Alma Satterfield, both of Henderson; 12 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two siblings, Willie M. Williams and Janet W. Dailes.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, May 4, 2013, at 3 p.m., at Mt. Zion Christian Church in Henderson. Burial will follow at St. John Church in Middleburg.

A viewing will take place today, from 2-7 p.m., at Lori Chappell Funeral Home in Henderson.

Johnnie M. Hobgood

OXFORD — Johnnie Mae Hobgood, 74, a resident of 3202 Watkins-Wilkerson Road, Oxford, died Wednesday, May 1, 2013, at Granville Medical Center.

Funeral services will be conducted Monday, May 6, 2013, at 2 p.m., at New Hop Granville Baptist Church in the Berea community.

A viewing will take place Sunday, May 5, 2013, from 11 a.m.-6 p.m., at Betts Funeral Home Chapel.

The family will be receiving friends at 3518 Chewning Road, Oxford.

Joshua W. Jones

HENDERSON — Joshua Wesley “Butter Bean” Jones died at his residence Wednesday, May 1, 2013.

He born in Vance County on Nov. 17, 1945, to the late Alexander and Lizzie Mae Jones.

He attended Vance and Granville County public schools. At an early age, he joined Baptist Grove Church in Granville County and was an active member until death.

He was married to the late Lechia H. Jones.

Jones was employed on a U.S. Army base in Arlington, Va, while living there. After returning to Henderson, he was employed with Burhart Company and the City of Henderson.

His singing career began with the Five Rising Stars and, later, the Happyland Singers. In 1995, with his brother, Joe, he started the Third Generation Singers. In 1996, he became an ordained minister.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by five siblings, Sallie Mae Jones, John Jones, George Jones, Ella Oakley and Elizabeth Jones.

Survivors include: two sisters, Betty L. Royster and Ida B. Mitchell, both of Henderson; three brothers, Joe A. Jones of Henderson, the Rev. John H. Jones of Oxford, and Wallace M. Jones of Henderson.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 4, 2013, at 2 p.m., at Baptist Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Ollie Ellington officiating, assisted by the revs. John Jones, Nelson Terry, Andrew Steed and Curtis Rainey.

Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The body will be on view at the church one hour prior to the services.

Floral bearers will be nieces, Honorary floral bearers will be members of All the Way Gospel Singers. Pallbearers will be nephews. Honorary pallbearers will be Third Generation Singers and All the Way Gospel Singers.

The family will receive friends at 544 High St., Henderson, and a viewing will take place today, from 2-8 p.m., at E.C. Terry’s Funeral Service Chapel.

Marlene Long

NORLINA — Marlene Long, 79, of Norlina, died Thursday, May 2, 2013, at Maria Parham Medical Center in Henderson.

Funeral services are incomplete at this time but will be later announced by Boyd’s Funeral Services in Warrenton.

Calvin D. Mills

HENDERSON — Calvin Doral “Swift” Mills, 23, of 155 Computer Lane, Henderson, died Sunday, April 28, 2013.

He was born in Pitt County to Wendy Lynn Warring (now Wendy Warring Epps) and Walter Alton Mills.

He was educated in Vance County and Wake County public schools. He joined and was baptized at Flat Creek Baptist Church. He was most recently employed at Kittrell Business Center in Kittrell.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, May 4, 2013, at 11 a.m., at Flat Creek Baptist Church by the Rev. William Everett. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

In addition to his parents, survivors include: one daughter, N’yasia Terry; four brothers, Justin Warring, Jason Warring, Maurice Marrow and Kenny Burton, two daughters, Shannon Bottoms and Heather Warring; and grandmother, Oneida Williams.

The body will be on view at the funeral home today, from noon-5:30 p.m., and at the church one hour before the service. Online condolences may be expressed at Davis-Royster.com.
