Rachel R. Poythress
HENDERSON — Rachel Royster Poythress, age 78, a resident of 1513 Peace St., died Monday, Sept. 1, 2014, at Maria Parham Medical Center.
Born on July 16, 1936, in Vance County, she was the daughter of the late Graham H. Royster and Ruth Jackson Royster.
Rachel was retired from W.H. Phillips & Co. and was a member of West End Baptist Church where she was a member of the Betsy Tuten Sunday School Class and the Katie Oakley WMU Group and was a member of the choir for almost 30 years.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, Sept. 4, 2014, at 2 p.m. at West End Baptist Church by the Rev. Ralph McGowan. Burial will follow in Sunset Gardens.
She is survived by her husband, Braxton Poythress of the home; one daughter, Cathy P. Musgrave and husband John of Pikeville; one son, Ron Poythress and wife Mary Ann of Raleigh; four sisters, Sarah R. Poythress and husband Dale of Henderson, Carolyn R. Kearney and husband Tom of Raleigh, Jean B. West and husband Bill “W.H.” of Oxford, and Maxine R. Kearney of Oviedo, Florida; five grandchildren, Jason Musgrave and wife Christy, Taylor Musgrave, Rachel Poythress, Rebecca Walker and Robert Walker; one great-grandson, Braxton Musgrave; and a dear special friend, Decie Harper.
The family will receive friends prior to the service on Thursday, Sept. 4, from 12:30 until 2 p.m. at West End Baptist Church. At other times they will be at the home at 1513 Peace St.
Serving as active pallbearers will be her grandsons, Jason Musgrave, Taylor Musgrave and Robert Walker, and her nephews, Steve Poythress, Ricky Poythress, Brian Roberson, Keith West, Scott West, Wayne Kearney and Chris Roberson.
Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to the West End Baptist Church Memorial Fund, 619 Dabney Drive, Henderson, NC 27536.
Among Rachel’s most joyous moments was spending time in her home surrounded by her family and friends. She loved preparing meals as a way to express her love and devotion to her family.

HENDERSON — Winston Blackwell, 89, of 1784 Satterwhite Point Road, died Monday, Sept. 1, 2014, at Maria Parham Medical Center.

HENDERSON — Dennis Ray Bullock, 57, of 442 Pearl St., died Friday, Aug. 29, 2014, at his residence.
A funeral will be held at 1 p.m. today, Sept. 3, at Oak Level United Church of Christ by Bishop Cornelius Williams.
Viewing will be at the church one hour prior to the service.
The family is receiving friends at the residence.

CREEDMOOR — Joseph William Kapherr Sr. died Monday, Sept. 1, 2014, at his home.
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. today, Sept. 3, at Creedmoor United Methodist Church, 214 Park Ave., Creedmoor, by the Rev. Jared Hanson, Dr. Everette France and Dr. J.C. Alexander. Burial will be in Creedmoor Cemetery.
Visitation is from 12:30 to 2 p.m. prior to the service at Creedmoor United Methodist Church and at other times at the home.

DURHAM — Billy F. Paynter Sr., 81, of Durham, died Sunday, Aug. 31, 2014, at Hock Family Pavilion.
A memorial service was held at 1 p.m. Monday, Sept. 1, at Clements Funeral Home in Durham by the Rev. Randall Pizzino.
The family received friends following the service at the home of Billy and Leslie Paynter.
